Verdure Zipped Travel Pouch

The arrival of monsoon is felt when the eyes are soothed after gazing at the lush greenery around you.

Sitting under the shade and sniffing the petrichor – the fresh, rich smell that accompanies rain when it falls on dry earth. Your mind wanders for seconds but it feels like you’ve travelled a new journey of fresh perspective.

The view of dense green vegetation is so tranquillizing that your body releases all the tension away from you.

The verdure has thickened and its bright green stood out sharply in parks, trees, and parched hills.

That verdure is reflected here in this item. An aim to bring out relief in hot-arid weather. A cotton variegated yarn with shades of green and blue was all I was looking for an evergreen pouch.

Since the pouch is something that you used every day, it was required that I bring out either funky bright colours or soothe combinations.

Process:

The pattern is very simple (I know I always say that but believe me once you get hold of the basic stitches of crochet, it is simple). The pouch is a combination of Single Crochet (SC), Back Loop Single Crochet (BLOSC) and Single Crochet-2-Together (SC2TOG) stitches.

Pattern:-

Colour Selection – Mod Green (BC) for base or side circles. Multi-colour yarn (MC) for the body and the zipper with a miniature ball charm.

Base:-

Starting with a Magic Circle and using BC, Ch 1, 6 SC; join at the beginning SC with a Slip Stitch (SLST). Total 6 SC.

Increase every row by 6 until you reach a total of 54 SC.

To know how to increase every row, click  Grandpa Beanie.

End Row: Back-loop SC (BLOSC) in every SC; join at the beginning SC with SLST. Total 54 BLOSC.

Body:-

R1: Select MC and start with SC around; join at the beginning SC with SLST. Total 54 counts.

R2: Continue Row 1 for another round. Total 54 counts.

R3: Using MC, start another round of Row 1. Do not join the ends. turn and Ch 1. Total 54 counts.

R4: Continue Row 3 for another 30 rows or till you get the desired length.

R5: Repeat row 3; join at the beginning SC with SLST.

R10: Ch 1, Repeat row 5. Total 54 counts.

R11: working on Back Loop, use BC and Ch 1, continue SC in every SC; join at the beginning SC with SLST. Total 54 SC.

Base:-

R13: decrease the count now.  Ch 1, SC in 7 SC, SC2TOG next 2 SC; repeat ; join at the beginning SC with SLST. Total 48 SC.

R14: Ch 1, SC in 6 SC, SC2TOG next 2 SC; repeat ; join at the beginning SC with SLST. Total 42 SC.

R15: Ch 1, SC in 5 SC, SC2TOG next 2 SC; repeat ; join at the beginning SC with SLST. Total 36 SC.

R16: Ch 1, SC in 4 SC, SC2TOG next 2 SC; repeat ; join at the beginning SC with SLST. Total 30 SC.

R17: Ch 1, SC in 3 SC, SC2TOG next 2 SC; repeat ; join at the beginning SC with SLST. Total 24 SC.

R18: Ch 1, SC in 2 SC, SC2TOG next 2 SC; repeat ; join at the beginning SC with SLST. Total 12 SC.

R19: Ch 1, SC2TOG next 2 SC; repeat ; join at the beginning SC with SLST. Total 6 SC. Sew the end and pull tightly to close.

Buy the zip and revert the inside out and sew the zip. Change back to the right side. Add the charm on the puller.

Caution Section:-

  1. SC will become tighter to work on as we are working with cotton yarn. The elasticity of the cotton yarn is nearly zero.
  2. To make a closed loop, a smaller hook than the recommended one can work. For me, I went with the suggested hook because working on the next row was getting tighter.
  3. To measure the gauge up to 1″, count the number of rows. Here, it took 4 rows to make an inch.
  4. I used the whole ball to get the size. It is always important to count your gauge to avoid any mishap.

Product Specifications:

Defining Dimensions:-

Length: 8″

Base circumference: 4″

Optional Alterations:-

  • Add different charms on the zip. I have made a mini ball with the base colour and added to the zip puller.  Free pattern to make the mini ball.
  • Choose different colour combinations for the pouch.
  • You can add tassels or pompom on the zip puller. Link to create pom-pom / DIY-Tassels.
  • You can attach a plain key-ring too.
  • The size of the pouch can increase or decrease. Focus on the base count and make the item your own.
  • Insert a lining to avoid the small items falling out. Since the pattern is close-knit stitch and the purpose of the pouch does not deal with any mini item. I haven’t added any liner.

Remember: do not over accessorize it. This hides the beauty of the pattern itself. Believe in elegant simplicity!!
