Crochet Safari Scarlet Coasters Free Pattern - Home Decor - Knot My Designs

Safari Scarlet Coaster Set

Irish Crochet has been famous for centuries. With Steel Crochet needle and thin cotton yarn or fine thread, the variety of intricate designs have been built.
Now, these designs are not only restricted to lacework, but we can also use the sections to create unique patterns and items.

I have made a couple of projects using Irish crochet stitch. Like in Christmas wreath, I learned how to make long leaves. I bought a green sage colour yarn and variegated yarn. I made a total of 15-20 leaves out of these 2 yarns.

Everyone loved the wreath. Even the pine cones are collected from the side of the road and cleaned and used. A complete DIY project. Click Here to get more details on the pattern.

My other project was Maple Wreath for the fall or autumn season in the USA. The leaves are quite widened than my Christmas leaves. I choose yellow, red and another variegated yarn depicting fall-colour shades.

This one turned out to be my best wreath so far. You can get the complete instructions from here.

Process:

The procedure to make these Irish leaves is simple. Single Crochet(SC) stitch is used in Back Loop and normal way to make the leaf. Other stitches are Slip Stitch (SLST) and Chain Stitch (CH). The thickness of the yarn makes it a standalone coaster.

Pattern:-

R1: Start with CH 14, turn; from 2nd CH SC in each chain, CH 2, SC in the same loop, move to the other side of the chains; SC 11 times; leaving the last 2 SC untouched; CH 1 and turn.

R2: SC 11, CH 2 space( SC, CH 2, SC), SC 11on the other side, CH 1 and turn.

R3: SC 12, CH 2 space( SC, CH 2, SC), SC 10 on the other side, CH 1 and turn

R4: SC 5, SL ST on next stitch, CH 3 and turn.

R5: BLOSC, SC 2, CH 3 and turn.

R6: SC on 2nd chain in above CH 3, SC on 2 loops on chain 2, SC 3, SL ST, CH 1 and turn.

R7: BLOSC, SC 5, CH 3 and turn.

R8: SC on 2nd chain in above CH 3, SC on 2 loops on chain 2, SC 6, SL ST, CH 1 and turn.

R9: BLOSC, SC 6, CH 1 and turn.

R10: SC 7, SL ST, CH 1 and turn.

R11: BLOSC, SC 4, CH 3 and turn.

R12: SC on 2nd chain on CH 3, SC on next 2, SC 5, SLST, CH 1 and turn.

R13: BLOSC, SC 5, CH 1 and turn.

R14: SC 6, SLST, CH 1 and turn.

R15: BLOSC, SC 4, CH 1 and turn.

R16: SC 5, SC on CH 2 of the base node, go to the other side and SC 11, CH 1 and turn.

Repeat R4-R15 on the other side.

Last R: SC 5, SC on the SC of the base node, SL ST on the SC of the base node. Cut and tie off.

Caution Section:-

  1. The counts are important. Any changes will not bring out the maple shape design.
  2. The stitch can be tight or medium to maintain the sturdiness of the leaves.
  3. Block the leaves to straighten the leaves edges.

Style Aisle:

  • Choose the colour matching with Kitchen interior.
  • Go crazy with experimental contrast colours with your furniture to pop out a section. Make sure the interiors are mostly containing natural, neutral or earthy colours around.
  • To showcase the pattern, you should always select a base colour and a contrast colour.
  • For the stitches or pattern to be visible clearly, choose lighter shades of yarn.
  • The mat should be different than the Dining Table/Kitchen countertop colour.
  • This is Optional. The rubber liner will avoid slippage on any base – wood, quartz, ceramic, cement, granite, zodiac etc.
    • The liner should not pop out. Select matching colour or subtle colour for your mat.
  • If you are short of hot pads you can use these and save that precious table or countertop!
