Winter/Fall Seasoned Crochet Rhombus Slouch Beanie Free Pattern - Knot My Designs

Rhombus Slouch Hat

The world today is far more complex than what it was centuries ago. Want to reach out to someone, just meet and talk. The complex process of reaching out. then, was sending a telegraph or even turning the dial of the phone.

Today, the simplest way of reaching out to someone is WhatsApp text, video call, voice call, ping/buzz/poke and more. What is complex today is reaching out and having a face-to-face conversation.

We are striving for simplicity in complexity while making the complexity was the most simple way available. Does this make any sense to you? While I myself couldn’t get the explanation or understanding of this, what I did achieve in this was a pattern that brings together a complex design form of Rhombus but still makes it simple.

Now, do you agree?

Process:

The steps are easy to follow. I have concentrated in 2 parts- the brim and the body. The approach is bottom to top with focusing on making the rectangular brim, joining the edges to get the circular form and lastly following the graph to include the rhombus or diamonds to the body.

Single Crochet stitch is used throughout the beanie. Back Loop Single Crochet (BLOSC) and Single Crochet (SC) with 2 coloured yarn.

BRIM:

R1: Use Main Colour (MC) chain 14; SC from the 2nd loop of the chain throughout; turn. Total = 13 SC

R2: Ch 1, BLOSC on every SC; turn. Total = 13 BLOSC.

Repeat R2 till you get a total of 80 rows for adult and 60 for baby.

Join the edges with WHIP stitch. Do not cut the yarn. In the end, Ch 1, SC around every 60/80 rows of the brim to get the circular form.

BODY:

Print out the graph and follow each square and change colours.

R1: Use Contrasting Colour (CC), SC around; join at the beginning with Slip Stitch (SL ST). Total = 80 SC.

R2: SC around and follow the below graph. Use MC or CC accordingly till you get the desired height of the beanie.

Turn the beanie inside out and join the base.

RHOMBUS GRID GRAPH

Crochet Rhombus Slouch Beanie Grid Graph Free Pattern - Knot My Designs

Caution Section:-

  1. The total count for rhombus pattern should be in multiples of 10.
  2. Note that the 1st square and last square in the grid graph will join with SL ST when you are working on a circular form.
  3. If you want you can add a section of continuous main colour as shown in the graph or you can end with the diamond pattern row.
  4. Each horizontal line represents rows.
  5. Both the yarn should support the same crochet hook and elasticity. This will avoid any contraction of the size.
  6. Do check the brim and body at regular intervals and steer clear of last-minute surprises.

Product Specifications:

Defining Dimensions:-

Circumference: 22″
Height: 9″

Optional Alterations:-

  • There are 2 ways to make this beanie. Use the process given above or make brim and body separately and join them in the end. Make sure the total count of rows of brim should be equal to the number of stitches in one row of the body.
  • Make mother and daughter combo beanies.
  • The same graph can be used to make the C2C scarves. Modify the graph with multiples of 10 and continue.
  • Add pom-pom matching the colour with the edging or the base colour. There are different ways to create pom-pom.
  • Attach flowers, beads or a bow made of crochet, plastic, suede leather etc to give cuteness to the hat.

Remember: do not over accessorize it. This takes away the beauty of the pattern itself. Believe in elegant simplicity!!
