Crochet C2C Oceanic Creatures Baby Blanket / Graphghan - Knot My Designs

Oceanic Creatures Baby Blanket

Do you know, they say that water has memory? I don’t know how true is the fact but I want to believe it. You must be wondering what on earth has happened to me that I am talking about water and sharing oceanic creatures today? Who doesn’t love dolphin, whale or a cute angelfish? The designing process was meditative for me.

It is all because I watched FROZEN II. It is available in Disney+ Hotstar in India. The only reason I agreed to buy the premium account was Disney’s addition to Hotstar.

I am all smitten by Elsa’s power. First, when I watched it I didn’t like it at all. I was even upset by the fact that the sequel turned out to be boring and not at all in comparison with Frozen I.

But when I saw Into the Unknown: Making Frozen 2, I was in a dream world. The writing, the story-boarding, the animation, and the songwriting all the process showed how much more goes into the making of an 1hr 45min-long movie. The series is the everyday struggle and hard work and making. And it felt connected.

I do want to be a part of that world. I don’t know if that’s even possible but there’s no harm in dreaming, right? So, here I am in the dream world humming the song again and again, and transporting myself into another world.

In present times, when we are enclosed within the confines of our homes, I am happy to go to another world i.e. my dreamland and fantasise about that enchanted world. Wouldn’t you?

The graph Oceanic Creatures C2C Graph is available at KMD Store.

Process:

Collect the colours that you plan to use for the blanket. Start C2C crocheting and then C2C decreasing crocheting to complete the graph. Once c2c square consumes 0.75″ – 1″ depending on the crochet hook and yarn used.

For this blanket, I have created 60 grids pixel graph for each expression of the bear. It should give 40″X40″ approximately.

This pattern requires proper counting and marking after completion of each square to avoid any mistakes.

Caution Section:-

  1. Print the coloured graph ( or black and white graph and mark the colours) and number all the rows and columns. Here, it is 60×60. The C2C stitch grows diagonally.
  2. If you have the black and white printer then print the graph and colour the blocks using colour pencils or mark S for Skin, G for Grey, P for Pink, W for White etc. so that you do not miss out the shape.
  3. Mark each row and column so that you know at which row you are while working.
  4. Also, count the number of blocks use 1 colour in that working row. Remember we work diagonally in C2C.
  5. Starting with ¹C2C Crochet Stitch Increasing ( focusing on the colour change) increase diagonally for 60 rows.
  6. Start ²decreasing C2C Crochet Stitch (focusing on the colour change as per the graph) decrease till the count reaches 1.

Edging:-

If you want to increase the size or if you like defining an edge then you can go with SC or DC row or below.

R1: Ch 1, Single Crochet (SC) around each post. 3 SC at the corners.

R2: Ch 2, Double Crochet on each SC. 3 DC at the corners or at the corner 3SC – 3DC on the middle 3 SC group.

R3: Ch 2, Half-Herringbone Double Crochet (HHDC) around each DC. 3 HHDC at the corner DC or 3 HHDC in the middle of the 3 DC group.

¹C2C crochet stitch / Increasing C2C Crochet Stitch:

  • [Chain 6.
  • R1: Double Crochet (DC) in 4th chain from the hook. 2 DC in next 2 chains. [ 1st corner block is made]
  • R2: turn the work, chain 6. DC in 4th chain from the hook. 2 DC in next 2 chains.  Slip stitch on the chain 3. (Chain 3, 3 DC) in the same chain 3 space of the previous row. [2nd row contains 2 blocks]
  • R3: Repeat R2 [3rd row will contain 3 blocks. Likewise, the Row-Number will have same number blocks.]
  • Continue R2 to increase horizontally and vertically up to the required number on the graph.]

²Decreasing C2C crochet stitch

  • [turn the last row. slip stitch on 1st DC, 2nd DC, 3 DC.
  • Slip Stitch(SL ST) chain 3 space. (Chain 3, 3 DC) in same chain 3 space.
  • Continue (SL ST, chain 3, 3 DC) in next chain 3 space.
  • Repeat till the last 2nd block. SL ST in the last chain 3 space. ]

    4. Vardhman Black – 1 Ball.
  2. Crochet Hook: 5mm
