Winter/Fall Seasoned K2P2 Adult Knit Beanie Free Pattern - Knot My Designs

K2P2 Adult Knit Beanie

Exactly a year ago, I was sitting down thinking forth and back about Knot My Designs. I had never thought I will be able to make it so far and so good. During my early years, while I was building this, I would often find myself at the crossroads. What if this is a will never be a success and go completely wrong, how much do I learn? Will I be able to learn?

When you are running own shop, you have to learn and manage everything yourself, from core product development, which in my case is crocheting and knitting, to sales and marketing, running operations and much more. In this process, I picked up a lot of skills and learned a lot of things. While a few on were typical on-the-job learning, for others, I went relied on books and courses to pick new soft skills. But how far do you need to go? Is it really worth it? Will I be able to bring customers and even maintain the stability of the brand – Knot My Designs?

So many questions were revolving constantly around me. They would even chase me in my dreams. I knew I wasn’t alone, all the first-time entrepreneurs face this day in day out. But not all dreams are bad. I could see a new LOGO for KNOT MY DESIGNS. It wasn’t just a figment of imagination or just a dream but a calling for expansion.

I followed my dream and I dared to learn the new skill. It took me months and lots of videos to understand the basics. I decided to make a simple ribbed beanie and shared my anxiety.

The difference in the knitting and crochet is the elasticity. Knit beanies are considered to be more compact in overall size and when stretched they form the correct circumference. Whereas in crochet, the final size of the beanie is the exact fit.

Having said that though knitting looks easy to make, we can go wrong in many ways like deciding the height of the beanie, the circumference, the overlapping of the stitches, missing out a stitch etc.

Process:

The design is simple to make. The free knit pattern is using Knit stitch and Purl Stitch along with long-tail cast-on (LTCO) and bind-off stitch (BO). Here is the link to learn Knit stitch (KS) and click on HERE to learn Purl Stitch (PS).

This initial count should be in multiples of 4 for 2 knit and 2 purls. It will turn out into a rectangular product.

I started forming the basic ribbed edge and instead of  Knit 1 and Purl 1 ribbed stitch (K1P1), I did Knit 2, and Purl 2 ribbed sitch (K2P2). I continued it until the length of the beanie was 11″.

As you can see, I have used all the stitch markers to understand the stitch difference. It turned out quite well than expected.  In the end, I have stitched the top and the sides to form a beanie.

BODY:-

R1: LTCO 120 stitches; turn. Total 120 count

R2: KS across; turn. Total 120 KS.

R3: 2 KS, 2 PS; ending with PS; turn. Total 120 counts

Repeat R3 till you get the desired length. I continued till I got 11″ and BO in the end.

FINISHES:-

Lay flat the rectangular design. You can treat it a right side and the underneath as the wrong side. Sew the breadth of the rectangle with the right side inside. sew and close the top of the body of your beanie. Turn inside out to face the right side of the beanie.

Please note that the edge will curl up. That is automatically formed due to the nature of the stitches used. Need not to panic and instead roll up neatly to give a defined edge.

Caution Section:-

  1. For knitting, it is utmost important to understand how the KNIT stitch looks and how the purl stitch looks.
  2. While combining these stitches, in case you drop out or missed, the detailed understanding of the stitches will help rebuild that missing part.
  3. I will suggest seeing the videos for rework the missed part.
  4. You are definitely going to make mistakes the first time. It actually helps you to understand the stitches more clearly.
  5. I must have opened my work 20 times and started from scratch. It helped me grasp the pattern more deeply.
