Winter/Fall Seasoned Crochet Denim Bosnian Long Beanie Free Pattern - Knot My Designs

Denim Bosnian Long Beanie

Denim is back in vogue

Denim colour shades are getting newfound popularity these days. However, this time it is not just about the fabric used in the pants and jackets but also the colour used in the yarn. Even the Lion Brand, the yarn company, has introduced Jeans – a range of soft yarn inspired by denim.

I couldn’t resist but get a Denim shade yarn, when I saw Big Twist Yarns presenting a section of denim in various shades. To my excitement, I picked balls of yarn of every shade available because the material and colour were just so contemporary.

Here, I am presenting a Denim Bosnian Long Beanie that can be worn as a slouchy beanie or a double-brimmed beanie

Process:

The process of creating this pattern is very similar to Hazelnut Bosnian Beanie. The whole pattern requires only Slip Stitch (SLST) in the back loop. To get the elasticity and knit style look, either you need to work on loose tensions or choose 2 sizes bigger crochet hook.

Go through the video to understand the pattern perfectly.

Pattern:-

R1: started with 51 Chains, SLST from 2nd loop till the end. Total – 50 counts.

R2: Ch 1, turn; BLOSLST (SLST in back loop) across leaving last 2 stitches. Total 48 counts.

R3: Ch 1, turn; BLOSLST across the end. Total 48 counts.

R4: Ch1, turn; BLOSLST across leaving last 2 stitches from prev row. Total 46 counts.

R5: Ch 1, turn; BLOSLST across the end. Total 46 counts.

R6: Ch1, turn; BLOSLST across leaving last 2 stitches from prev row. Total 44 counts.

R7: Ch 1, turn; BLOSLST across the end. Total 44 counts.

R8: Ch1, turn; BLOSLST across leaving last 2 stitches from prev row. Total 42 counts.

R9: Ch 1, turn; BLOSLST across the end. Total 42 counts.

Measure the hat. If the width is 2″-2.25″, then you will get the circumference of 20″-22″ after R17. This is good for the male head size as the hat will stretch upon wear.

The height of the hat will define how much you are going to have a double brim. If the size is 11″ then it will form a good double brim. Make a stop to calculate how long you want your beanie.

The increase in the counts starts from now.

R10: Ch1, turn; BLOSLST across for 42 times; pick up the top loop of the previous row and BLOSLST in the above 2 stitches of R8. Total 44 counts.

R11: Ch 1, turn; BLOSLST across the end. Total 44 counts.

R12: Ch1, turn; BLOSLST across for 44 times; pick up the top loop of the previous row and BLOSLST in the above 2 stitches of R6. Total 46 counts.

R13: Ch 1, turn; BLOSLST across the end. Total 46 counts.

R14: Ch1, turn; BLOSLST across for 46 times; pick up the top loop of the previous row and BLOSLST in the above 2 stitches of R4. Total 48 counts.

R15: Ch 1, turn; BLOSLST across the end. Total 48 counts.

R16: Ch1, turn; BLOSLST across for 50 times; pick up the top loop of the previous row and BLOSLST in the above 2 stitches of R2. Total 50 counts.

R17: Ch 1, turn; BLOSLST across the end. Total 50 counts.

Measure the hat. If the width is 4″-4.5″, then you need to repeat (R2- R17) 4 times to get the circumference of 20″-22″. this is good for the male head size as the hat will stretch upon wear. The height of the hat will define how much you are going to have a double brim.

Repeat R2-R17 4 times to get the 20″-22″ circumference which after you wear will extend to 23″-24″. The ideal size for an adult male.

You will finish at the top of the hat.

To join the ends, BLOSLST in an existing row and pick the chain stitch of the starting row. Sew the extra yarn.

Close the top and sew the remaining yarn.

Caution Section:-

  1. Remember to achieve more elasticity the recommended crochet hook might not be the correct choice. Choose a larger hook than the suggested one.
  2. One more point – your strength and style do matter. I tend to make a tighter stitch most of the time, thus I prefer a larger hook. If the crochet stitches you make is looser than you can go for a recommended hook or the hook suggested in the patterns.
  3. Measure the hat in after R9. If the width is 2″-2.25″, then you will get the circumference of 20″-22″ after R17. This is good for the male head size as the hat will stretch upon wear.
  4. The height of the hat will define how much you are going to have a double brim. If the size is 11″ then it will form a good double brim. Make a stop to calculate how long you want your beanie.
  5. Measure the hat after completing R17; which will form one section. If the width is 4″-4.5″, then you need to repeat (R2- R17) 4 times to get the circumference of 20″-22″. this is good for the male head size as the hat will stretch upon wear. The height of the hat will define how much you are going to have a double brim.

Product Specifications:

Defining Dimensions:-

  • Height: 11″
  • Circumference: 23″

The sizes could be altered based on the count of the stitches for the rows.

[Note: The height of the hat is measured from the closed tip to the bottom when the hat is laid flat. ]

Optional Alterations:-

  • You can increase the base diameter to give a more slouchy feel. Also, increase the height of the beanie.
  • This is a Unisex beanie. So in case you are using it as a female beanie, you can add pom-pom matching the colour with the edging or the base colour. There are different ways to create pom-pom.
  • You can attach flowers, beads or a bow made of crochet, plastic, suede leather etc to give cuteness to the hat.
  • You can put fur edging to give a different touch.
  • For men, keep it simple. The colour selection should catch the eye.

Remember: Do not over-accessorize it. This hides the beauty of the pattern itself. Believe in elegant simplicity!!

  1. I think this hat looks great and I was excited to try and make it for my husband. But first off, you need to be more specific about what yarn you need, like the weight. I still am unsure if I got the right kind. Second, you NEED to have step by step photos to go along with the instructions. Third, your pattern does not match up with the pictures you posted. Iv gotten so flustered that I’m now winging it, or I’m finding a new pattern to use because without a video or pictures, I can’t figure out what your pattern is trying to do. Fourth, your link to a video of the pattern sent me to some Russian sketchy website that was unprotected, and there wasn’t even a video there. So I’m very disappointed because I like what I see in the pictures and wish I could make it but cant.

    1. Hi Amelia, Regarding the change in the template of written instructions, thank you for providing your valuable feedback. I will take into consideration.

The pattern is inspired by known German crocheter Aleksandra from Monk Woolles & Beanies. The link was working correctly when I posted the pattern. She might have updated her dns entry due to which the old links are all expired. Here’s the correct link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H4IEISX2VXw

  2. Do you have a video for this pattern?

I was just wondering if the measurement after row 9 is smaller than 2-2.25” would you be able to repeat the pattern for more than 4 sections or would that not work?
    Thanks so much
