Crochet Cabled Brim Slouch Beanie Free Pattern - Knot My Designs

Cabled Brim Slouch Beanie

Black is everywhere. Black is running choice of colour for every couture. Nothing can go wrong with black.

If you are stuck or are bad at outfit selection then go for black. It is the colour for almost every occasion.

Being the most approachable solution to your attire, it becomes extremely difficult to bring variation in the texture of your product.

Black, being a tricky colour, obscures the design. For me, to fabricate a textured pattern (without destroying the real use of the beanie i.e. providing warmth) was risky.

I dared to form cable pattern on the brim of the beanie and giving a slouchy effect to the body. With the hope to bring ridges around your face, it will accentuate your face subtly.

I hope the picture is clear. I have tried various options to get a clear view of the beanie but I have failed to focus the cable pattern that I have tried to bring out here.

Process:

The process involves working using Bottom to top approach with 2 different sides. First, we have to work on a small rectangular shape to complete the cabled brim. Then, we have to work in rounds until the completion of the beanie. It involves Front Post Double Crochet (FPDC) stitch, Back Post Double Crochet (BPDC) stitch, Double Crochet (DC) stitch, Front Post Treble Crochet (FPTC) stitch, ( 3rd Loop Double Crochet (3LDC) stitch and Slip-Stitch (SL ST).

Pattern:-

CABLED BRIM:-

R1: start with ch 15, DC in the 3rd loop, DC in all the chain stitches; Turn. TOTAL 13 DC.

R2: Ch 2, DC, BPDC in 9 DC – (9 stitch group), 2 DC; turn. TOTAL 4 DC, 9 BPDC.

R3: Ch 2 (count as DC), DC; in 9 stitch group – Skip the next 3 stitches, FPTC loosely in next 3 stitches, bring the hook behind the current work and FPTC loosely in the skipped 3 stitch forming a cross of 3 stitches,  FPDC in next 3 stitches; 2 DC in DC; turn.TOTAL 4 DC, 6 FPTC, 3 FPDC.

R4: Ch 2 (count as DC), DC in DC, 9 BPDC in 9 stitch group, 2 DC in DC; turn.TOTAL 4 DC, 9 BPDC.

R5: Ch 2 (count as DC), DC; in 9 stitch group – 3 FPDC, Skip the next 3 stitches, FPTC loosely in next 3 stitches, bring the hook behind the current work and FPTC loosely in the skipped 3 stitch forming a cross of 3 stitches; 2 DC in DC. TOTAL 4 DC, 3 FPDC, 6 FPTC.

R6: Ch 2 (count as DC), DC in DC, 9 BPDC in 9 stitch group, 2 DC in DC; turn.TOTAL 4 DC, 9 BPDC.

Repeat R3 – R6 until you can get the desired width required for the crown. I used a total of 36 rows.

Join the edges. Ch 2, 2 DC in every horizontally lying DC; join at the beginning ch2 with SL ST.  TOTAL 72 DC, 1 Ch-2.

SLOUCH BODY:-

R1: it is the last row of 72 DC; join at the beginning ch2 with SL ST. TOTAL 72 DC.

R2-R5: Repeat R1 for 4 more rows. TOTAL 72 DC.

R6: Ch 2, 3LDC in every DC; join at the beginning Ch 2 with SL ST. TOTAL 72 3LDC.

R7-R8: Repeat R6. TOTAL 72 3LDC.

Repeat the set of R1-R8 for 1 more time.

Repeat R1-R5.

Sew and close the end for the slouchy beanie.

Caution Section:-

  1. Keep measuring the length of the cable as you move to have the correct circumference.
  2. Also, notice the number of rows you worked on to get the final length, as that will be the row count for the body of the beanie.
  3. The pattern is pretty easy to follow. You need to make sure the count does not increase or decrease every row.
  4. The body of the beanie is pretty simple to follow. It is the brim or edging that you need to focus.
  5. Focus on the cabled brim. The black colour might not give clarity that you are looking for while testing the pattern. I will come up with a light coloured cable pattern soon to ease out the trouble.
