Winter / Fall Seasoned Knit Buttercup Slouchie Adult Beanie Free Pattern - Knot My Designs

Buttercup Slouchie Adult Beanie

After a long break, I am getting back into the groove-writing instructions and setting up the social media accounts posts.

I did start creating knit beanies a while back, which has became new obsession for the time being but I am enjoying every bit of it.

Permutation with knitting stitches is turning out a success. I am happy creating these patterns while progressing from one row to another.

My creative ideas seldom reach the bloc, designing new designs. I am not able to come up with unique and interesting names for the patterns. Thus, I reached out my friends on Instagram and Facebook. I loved all the names that I received.

After long hours of comtemplation, I decided to go with Buttercup Slouchie. Here are the written instructions for Buttercup Slouchie Adult Beanie.

Process:

The knitting instructions are extremely simple. The basic stitches (knit and purl) are used in this pattern and multiples of 8. I have used straight knitting needles. I have made a flat rectangular design. Every row is turned to make this beanie. The sides of the rectangles are sown to form a beanie and one side is closed off to make the base of the beanie.

I am using the bottom top approach here with Knit stitch (KS), Purl stitch (PS), Long-tail cast-on (LTCO) and bind-off (BO) knitting techniques.

BRIM:-

R1: LTCO. Total 120 counts.

R2: KS across; turn. Total 120 KS.

R3: 5 KS, 3 PS every row; turn. Total 120 counts.

Repeat R3 (KS on KS and PS on PS) for 2″ to make the brim. Do not cut the yarn.

BODY:-

R1: KS across; turn. Total 120 KS

R2: PS across; turn. Total 120 PS

Repeat R1-R2 alternatively [Stockinette stitch] till you get the required height of the beanie and BO.

FINISHES:-

Lay flat the rectangular design. You can treat it the right side and the underneath as the wrong side. Sew the breadth of the rectangle with the right side inside. sew and close the top of the body of your beanie. Turn inside out to face the right side of the beanie.

Caution Section:-

  • I am using 2ply Indian yarn and knitting needle is 4mm. Use the needle suggested in your label sheet of the yarn.
  • When you are doing Knit & purl in ribbing stitch, try to slightly pull the yarn after each stitch to create the perfect ribbing.
  • The tension and elasticity of the yarn define the shape of your beanie. Because of this, the initial count of the beanie might change.

Product Specifications:

Defining Dimensions:-

Circumference: 23″

Height: 10″

Optional Alterations:-

  • Add pom-pom matching the colour with the edging or the base colour. There are different ways to create pom-pom.
  • Attach flowers, beads or a bow made of crochet, plastic, suede leather etc to give cuteness to the hat.
  • Roll up the brim to define an edge.
  • Increase the height of the beanie to give a slouchy effect.
  • Increase or decrease the LCO to make the same design for different ages.
  • Switch between the main colour and a contrast colour while working on the body of the beanie to make another beanie completely.

Remember: do not over accessorize it. This takes away the beauty of the pattern itself. Believe in elegant simplicity!!
