Winter/Fall Seasoned Crochet 2 Shades of Denim Beanie for adult male - Knot My Designs

2 Shades of Denim Beanie

Even though I haven’t the read either of the books from the trilogy ‘50 Shades of Grey’, I found the name pretty intriguing. Therefore, I am naming the beanie “2 Shades of Denim“. Just to clarify, this is just picking the name, but has no connection and has nothing to do with the novel, the movie, and the genre.

The story of this beanie is unlike the movie or the novel, where there is no heartbreak, no anger, no one is unhappy. This pattern only brings joy and smiles. This pattern is another example of innovation, beyond the textbook norms of basic beanie pattern and creating a novel pattern. Using 2 shades you can be as creative and experimenting as you wish.

Process:

The beanies are made using Double Crochet Stitches only. These are called as Basic Beanies. Basic Black Beanie will give you the detailed, step-by-step instruction.

The twist is the colour change. To get the theme of 2 Shades, I have mixed and matched 4 shades of denim to make these unisex beanies. I have focused on making them as male beanies thus, I increased the circumference to 23″ and height to 9.5″.

There is a difference in the edging of every beanie. It is more of playing the field with either 2 rows of edging or 3 or more.

Caution Section:-

  1. To increase the circumference you can add another row.
  2. Similarly, to decrease the circumference you can stop at the previous row or you can decrease the initial count from 12DC to 10 DC/8 DC.
  3.  Since the circumference of the front head is smaller than the crown, the last row is made using a tight stitch or one size smaller crochet hook.  This will give a close snug at the brim of the beanie for a proper fit.

Product Specifications:

Defining Dimensions:-

Height: 9.5″

Circumference: 23″+

Optional Alterations:-

  • You can increase the base diameter to give a more slouchy feel. Also, increase the height of the beanie.
  • You can add pom-pom matching the colour with the edging or the base colour. There are different ways to create pom-pom.
  • You can attach flowers, beads or a bow made of crochet, plastic, suede leather etc to give cuteness to the hat.
  • You can put fur edging or tassels to give a different touch.

Remember: Do not over accessorise it. This hides the beauty of the pattern itself. Believe in elegant simplicity!!
