C2C Panda Monkey Baby Blanket

You might have already known about my new found love for Corner-to-Corner Crochet from my previous blogs. Making any C2C blanket is easy and interesting especially when you have a grid-based graph or a pixel graph with you. There are over a thousand graphs available online in different variety from living to non-living. However, animals and cartoon characters are the most popular pixel arts available online. They are top choices when you are looking for patterns for children.

When I learned C2C, I quickly jumped at the opportunity of making a baby blanket. I liked the Dog graph from 1dogwoof and altered the colours to make Woof! Woof! Baby Blanket.

But I was craving for learning the art myself. The challenge arrived when a friend approached me for a similar theme as Woof! Woof! Baby Blanket, after checking out the homepage. Apparently, the couple needed it in 2-3 weeks, so I decided to make a monkey-panda themed blanket.

Completely new at pixel drawing, I browsed few monkeys and pandas online to understand the intricacies of the pattern with respect to the facial features and body positioning. I must admit that the process is tedious and takes a lot of practice and hit and trails. You have to start with one figure at a time like I did with the monkey and then made one change at a time to understand the overall look of the pattern.

I finally succeeded and I can proudly say this was my first attempt at pixel art! I hope you like what I have tried to bring out in these and try out for yourself.

Process:

Collect the colours that you plan to use for the blanket. Start C2C crocheting and then C2C decreasing crocheting to complete one graph. Repeat the similar process for all the graphs twice. Both the graphs are 25×25. Make 1 graph and measure its size. It will help you analyse the final size of the blanket. Proceed towards making other 3 parts. For this blanket, each part is 17″ and a final border of 1-2″ makes the blanket 36×36 or 37×37.

Note: Make 1 graph and check out the measurement of that part. It will help you analyse the final size of the blanket. Proceed towards making other 3 parts. For this blanket, each part is 17″ and a final border of 1-2″ makes the blanket 36×36 or 37×37.

For this blanket, each part is 17″ and a final border of 1″ makes the blanket 37×37.

This pattern requires proper counting and marking after completion of each square to avoid any mistakes.

Remember:

  1. Print the coloured graph ( or black and white graph and mark the colours) and number all the rows and columns. Here, it is 25×25. The C2C stitch grows diagonally.
  2. Starting with C2C Crochet Stitch Increasing ( focusing on the colour change) increase diagonally for 25 rows.
  3. Start decreasing C2C Crochet Stitch (focusing on the colour change as per the graph) decrease till the count reaches 1.

Edging:-

After completing the 4 parts, join them using the Invisible Stitch. Work on the edging on the blanket.

R1: Ch 1, Single Crochet (SC) around each post. 3 SC at the corners.

R2: Ch 2, Double Crochet on each SC. 3 DC at the corners or at the corner 3SC – 3DC on the middle 3 SC group.

R3: Ch 2, Half-Herringbone Double Crochet (HHDC) around each DC. 3 HHDC at the corner DC or 3 HHDC on the middle of the 3 DC group.

¹C2C crochet stitch / Increasing C2C Crochet Stitch:

  • [Chain 6.
  • R1: Double Crochet (DC) in 4th chain from the hook. 2 DC in next 2 chains. [ 1st corner block is made]
  • R2: turn the work, chain 6. DC in 4th chain from the hook. 2 DC in next 2 chains.  Slip stitch on the chain 3. (Chain 3, 3 DC) in the same chain 3 space of the previous row. [2nd row contains 2 blocks]
  • R3: Repeat R2 [3rd row will contain 3 blocks. Likewise, the Row-Number will have same number blocks.]
  • Continue R2 to increase horizontally and vertically up to the required number on the graph.]

²Decreasing C2C crochet stitch

  • [turn the last row. slip stitch on 1st DC, 2nd DC, 3 DC.
  • Slip Stitch(SL ST) chain 3 space. (Chain 3, 3 DC) in same chain 3 space.
  • Continue (SL ST, chain 3, 3 DC) in next chain 3 space.
  • Repeat till the last 2nd block. SL ST in the last chain 3 space. ]

Caution Section:-

Final pointers to keep in mind when working on this project.

  1. Print colourful graph. If you have the black and white printer then print the graph and colour the blocks using colour pencils or mark G for green, Y for Yellow, Br for Brown, Sk for light brown or skin etc. so that you do not miss out the shape.
  2. Mark each row and column so that you know at which row you are while working.
  3. Also, count the number of blocks use 1 colour in that working row. Remember we work diagonally in C2C.
  4. Make one graph and measure the part. Based upon this measurement you can calculate the total size of your blanket. You can increase the size of the blanket by
    1. adding few rows of SC and DC around each part.
    2. adding an edge and increasing the edge using DC around.
  5. For e.g. here each part is 17″. In order to get 40″X40″ blanket, I have to add another 5″. I can add a row of SC and another row of DC in each part. Then after sewing them, I can add another one row of SC and DC and HHDC. You can mix and match the options to get your desired size.

Product Specifications:

Defining Dimensions:-

  • Length: 37″
  • Width: 37″

Optional Alterations:-

  • The sizes can be changed based on your requirement.
  • The edging can be made of Single Crochet (SC), Crab Stitch, Slip Stitch, Herringbone Half Double Crochet (HHDC).
  • Instead of regular yarn, fur yarn will bring out a pop to the border.
  • Instead of going for 3rd colour for the border, use both the base colours around for alternate rows.
    • The border shouldn’t be too broad to pop out. The purpose should be to provide a clean edge.
  • You can add pom-pom or tassels (matching the colour with the edging or the base colour) at the 4 corners. Link to make pom-pom and tassels.
  • Avoid the border and just add tassels/pompoms made of a mixture of the base colours.
  • You can attach flowers, beads, appliques or a bow made of crochet, plastic, suede leather, fabric etc to make it more interesting.
  • You can increase the total size of the blanket.

Remember: do not over accessorise it. This hides the beauty of the pattern itself. Believe in elegant simplicity!!

Crochet C2C Geometricised Colour Baby Blanket / Graphghan - Knot My Designs

Geometricised Colour Baby Blanket

Have you ever wondered why babies or newborn toys are colourful and of various shapes?

Because as a child grows, he/she learns to observe and categorize the objects around in form of shapes and colours. This helps to develop the brain and build that motor skills. The kid learns to differentiate size, shapes and patterns around. Colours help to identify objects like yellow fruit in the shape of half circle is a banana.

I have always dreamt of making a geometric-shaped colourful blanket for children to serve as a multi-purpose item. It can not only be used as a swaddling cover or stroller blanket or normal baby blanket but also can be laid on carpet or bed and they can play with the colours and shapes.

I was successful to implement when a friend asked me for a custom baby blanket to gift.

After getting a hold on Corner to Corner (C2C) Crochet stitch, I tried a few pixel grid graphs on my own. I liked the work of other fellow crocheters but I wanted to make a pattern all by myself from the scratch. The basic way to learn is to simply form geometric shapes to get the idea of blocks and shapes.

This struck me with the idea of making the geometric-shaped squares for the baby blanket. I tried all basic geometric shapes and polygons. I changed the colours of the squares based on the availability of yarns and voila! here is the charming baby blanket.

Process:

We can find a square, circle, rectangles, triangle, right angle triangle, ovals, trapezoid, pentagon, hexagon, octagon, parallelogram, diamond, septagon, rhombus of different colours in this Geometricised Colour Baby Blanket.

Collect the colours that you plan to use for the blanket. Start C2C crocheting and then C2C crocheting in descending pattern to complete one graph. Repeat the similar process for all the graphs as these are the 15×15 grid. Make 1 graph and measure its size. It will help you analyse the final size of the blanket. Proceed towards making other 15 pieces. For this blanket, each piece is 10″ and no border makes the blanket 40″ X 40″.

Note: Make 1 graph and check out the measurement of that part. It will help you analyse the final size of the blanket. Proceed towards making other 15 pieces. You can add a row of SC if you want to have the uniformity all around.

This pattern requires proper counting and marking after completion of each square to avoid any mistakes.

  1. Print the coloured graph ( or black n white graph and mark the colours) and mark the total rows and columns. It is 15X15. The C2C corner stitch grows diagonally.
  2. Starting with ¹C2C Crochet Stitch (focusing on the colour change) increase diagonally till the count 15.
  3. Start ²decreasing C2C Crochet Stitch (focusing on the colour change as per the graph) decrease till the count reaches 1.

Edging:-

After completing the 16 square pieces, join them using the Invisible Stitch. Work on the edging on the blanket.

I haven’t provided any edging as the size is already 40″ X 40″ and the invisible stitch flows pretty well.

Crochet Persimmon C2C Diamond Throw - Knot My Designs

Persimmon C2C Diamond Throw

Some are addicted to chocolates, others few are to shopping; I got addicted to C2C crochet stitch. Corner-to-corner crochet stitch is a common passion for crocheters. It is a treasure chest for any crocheter that has an infinite number of patterns, animated objects, animals, flowers and more to offer. All you need is a pixel art of what you want to make. You can easily find grid graphs online made available by many generous crocheters for us to work on and create beautiful art with yarn.

I tried hard not to get addicted to C2C crochet stitch after working on Woof! Woof! Baby Blanket and C2C Checkered Lap Blanket. So, I decided to make a chevron patterned lap blanket as something to take me away from C2C. I was halfway into crocheting the blanket when I realized that the difference in the thickness of the yarns (I bought) was adding additional weight to it. Also, I was running out of time.

I decided to drop the idea and I started looking for new crochet stitches, which will make a gorgeous blanket using rust, pale orange and cream combinations of yarn. I stumbled upon this Pinterest picture. Guess what! It was corner-to-corner crochet diamond shape blanket.

Call it luck or love, I was back to C2C.

Process:

The Ravelry link from C2C Diamonds Blanket for Baby Hemmesch described the pattern as

C2C¹ Squares Pattern:
4 rows grey
2 rows gold
2 rows mint
2 rows grey
3 rows mint (start decrease on 3rd row of mint here)
2 rows grey
2 rows mint
2 rows gold
4 rows grey

I changed the grey to cream, gold to pale orange and mint to rust.

One way to get the overall diamond-shaped design is to start with small parts and then add them together. Starting with making 12 rows diagonal line patterns, measuring up to 8″, join four of these parts together to form a diamond shape. However, after working on the above pattern separately, I realized that quite a lot of yarn was getting wasted while changing colours. Also, the higher number of knots, the higher chances of the yarn getting entangled between.

In my previous C2C Checkered Lap Blanket, I had used 15 squares of Taupe (measuring 10″) n 15 squares of Green (measuring 10″) to make 60×40 size blanket. So in order to achieve the same size in this particular blanket, I would have to work on 30 bits of the diagonal pattern. This would also require securing the knots of every piece, sewing the stranded yarns of every piece, and stitching these parts into a blanket. It seems to be a pointless investment of time and energy.

Therefore, I decided to create a bigger C2C¹ Diamond graph and join them to make a blanket. I completed the 4 pieces of the diagonal pattern and joined them. Using this section as one diamond pattern, I created the diamond a graph. Now the graph has 24 rows measuring up to 16″. The graph is a continuation of the small pieces. I was glad about the outcome since the final pattern remained unchanged and helped me save the time and energy.

I was able to complete the project in a month easily, with there is less wastage of yarn and less hassle of securing the knots.

P.S. I avoid too many joints in my work assuming if the blanket is used roughly, the stitch will still guarantee a long run. Provided that the wash care instructions are followed for maintaining the originality of the product. You can still opt for 8″ diagonal squares.

Pattern:-

The number of rows to work is 24. The total size of this square is 16″. To achieve the 64X40 size blanket.

C2C Diamond Graph = 8

C2C Extended Diagonal Graph = 4

I have joined these squares using Invisible Join Stitch.

Note: The size might increase or decrease depending on the yarn and crochet hook used.

  • R3: Repeat R2 ]

²Decreasing C2C crochet stitch

  • [turn the last row. slip stitch on 1st DC, 2nd DC, 3 DC.
  • Slip Stitch(SL ST) chain 3 space. (Chain 3, 3 DC) in same chain 3 space.
  • Continue (SL ST, chain 3, 3 DC) in next chain 3 space.
  • Repeat till the last 2nd block. SL ST in the last chain 3 space. ]

Caution Section:-

  1. The size of one diamond square segment might increase or decrease depending on the yarn and crochet hook used.
  2. The wool gauge of rust and cream are same but pale range is different. Thus, I have increased the 6:3 ratio of basic C2C crochet stitch to 7:4 Also, I included 4 Double Crochet instead of 3 in C2C crochet stitch.
  3. The same crochet hook is maintained throughout the process.
  4. I avoid too many joints in my work assuming if the blanket is roughly used, still the stitch will guarantee a long run. Provided that the wash care instructions are followed for maintaining the originality of the product. You can still opt for 8″ diagonal squares.

Crochet Creamy Cute Toddler Sweater Free Pattern - Knot My Designs

Creamy Cute Toddler Sweater

It was an exhilarating experience! My first trial in the making of the sweater, a maiden attempt towards stitching. I felt all the emotions of thrill, fear, anxiety, to the happiness of triumph and pride of achievement.

A naive in stitching and cutting, I do not know the fundamentals of it. I can run a sewing machine for mending stitches, that’s all. This was an interesting experience. The final sweater was much closer to my expectation, but, it turned out to be slightly bigger in size for younger nephew, especially at the sleeves. However, I have nothing to worry, kids grow very quickly. So most likely within a year’s time, it will fit him. Having said that, it was indeed a learning for me. I picked up some understanding about fitting and stitching.

And I must admit, it is pretty impressive for the first attempt. What say?

Process:

I loved the Yarnspirations blog. It contains a lot of patterns with detailed instructions available for free. I was looking for a sweater for a 2-year-old toddler. Since this is my 1st attempt in crocheting a sweater (any size), I loved the instructions and the pictorial measurement. I simply fell in love with this hoodie sweater pattern. It is so darn cute that I wish I had one for myself. The yarn is completely different than the yarn listed on the pattern page. Thus, I focused entirely on the size chart rather than the written pattern. My nephew is 1-year-old but I chose to make it bigger by 1 size so that it fits well. It’s better to make a bigger size than work on exact size, which will be unfit in a couple of months. I made the modifications accordingly. It was quite a challenging task since I had very limited knowledge of making a sweater. The yarn thickness was different than the recommended yarn in the pattern. Thus, I used a different crochet hook. I have listed the modifications I did in case you are in my position.

  1. Initial chain count for the back is 56 to get 11.5″. I raised the length by .5″ more, so instead of 13.5″ it is 14″.
  2. Sleeves are 9″.
  3. The front is also increased by 0.5″ while the length is similar to the back with 14″. The initial chain count is around 44.
  4. The Shoulder width turned out more as 4″. I could reduce it to 3 and left more opening for the neck.
  5. I followed the hood instructions with 4 rows to create the open collar and then sewed all the parts.

 Caution Section:-

  1. Measurement is very important for making any outfit. This one turned out to be for the older nephew than the younger one.
  2. The yarn and crochet size selection can alter based on your availability and preference. Thus check out the complete sizing pictures from the link.
  3. It’s better to make a bigger size than work on exact size which will be unfit in a couple of months.
  4. Initial chain count and 3-4 rows of the pattern will give you the sizing clarity. This might require unwinding a couple of times till you get the desired size.
  5. After creating the Back, make sure you are always measuring the front 2 halves again n again. Especially, when you make the holes for buttons. I miscalculated, thus there is 1″ of an increased size in the front. I have tried to handle the situation while sewing up. Had I measured front along with the back, I would have saved this extra wool and also have gotten the perfect fit.
  6. Sleeves turn out a bit bigger than the body base. Thus after completing the back and the front then only proceed with sleeves.
  7. Since I felt hoodie will enclose the opening of the neck, I didn’t proceed. It is my first attempt at stitching and making of the sweater. I have made a lot of mistakes in the process.
  8. It is best if you use the same yarn ball to avoid imperfection in design.

Crochet Olive Shell Rectangular Shawl for an adult woman - Knot My Designs

Olive Shell Rectangular Shawl

Shawl or Wrap plays an important role in woman’s wardrobe as an all-rounder accessory. There are various different styles to carry a shawl; as a prayer shawl, a party shoulder robe for dresses, a winter cowl or scarf, or as a stole to go along with Indian kurta.

This multi-purpose accessory is a wonder and a gift to every woman. I wanted to make a shawl that not only brings warmth but also adds contrast to a gorgeous sequin dress. I chose to make a shawl using Olive colour yarn. Traditionally, this colour olive green represents the peace and brings comfort to eyes.

Easy to wear and carry around, the thickness of the wool promises ample warmth. You can either wear as a day-lunch or an evening outhouse party.

Process:

I like the corner to corner (C2C) style Shell pattern by Hillary on her blog. I did some calculations and modifications to make a rectangular shawl. The process contains series of double crochet stitch (DC), Single Crochet (SC) and Chain (ch).

R1: chain 68+3. Multiples of 4+3.

The chain was 19″ long.

R2: Starting with 3 DC in the 4th hook on the chain, *skip 3 ch, SC in next ch, ch 3, 3 DC in same Ch*; repeat from *-* till the end of the chain with SC in the last Ch; Ch 3, turn.

R3: 3 DC in 1st SC, *SC, Ch 3, 3 DC in the Ch 3 space of the previous row*; repeat from *-* till the end of the chain with SC in the last Ch; Ch 3, turn.

Repeat R3 until the desired shawl length.

Last Row (LR): 2 DC in 1st SC, * SC in next Ch 3 space, Ch 3*; repeat from *-* till the end of the chain with SC in the last Ch. Slip Stitch and sew.

Remember: to give any lacey effect the crochet hook should be more than 2-3mm bigger than the recommended hook.

Since the yarn was bulky and stretchy, I used 5.5mm, a smaller hook, than recommended.

Caution Section:-

  • Depending on the texture of the yarn, you can either choose a larger crochet hook other than recommended one.
  • For edging the last row, you can change the crochet hook to a smaller size to give a tighter set.
  • Check the initial 3-4 rows to get the desired width. The number of chains and the stitching style will change the width.
  • Every person works loose or medium or tight stitch. Thus, the width and length of the scarf changes. I focused on medium stitch to give the smooth flow.
  • I used a small crochet hook than recommended as the wool has elasticity.

Product Specifications:

Defining Dimensions:-

  • Length: 65″
  • Width: 18″.

Optional Alterations:-

  • Add a line of tassels to the ends of both sides along the width. 4 Tassels at the corners will also work. You can reduce the size of the scarf as tassels will add another 10″.
  • Attach pom-poms to each of the corners.
  • The tassels or pompoms colour should be of the base colour or any contrast colour. Shades of white, golden, silver, brown, creme, blue, olive will add the beauty.
  • Pom-poms and tassels can be of wool, faux fur, ribbons, plastic, resin etc. Link to make pom-pom and tassels.
  • The long length edging, you can have a Crab Stitch, Single Crochet, Slip Stitch.
  • Decrease the width and convert this wrap/stole/shawl into a beautiful lacy scarf.

Remember: do not over accessorise it. This takes away the beauty of the pattern itself. Believe in elegant simplicity!!

Crochet C2C Checkered Lap Blanket - Knot My Designs

C2C Checkered Lap Blanket

As creators and art-loving individuals, our objective is to create a magnificent product, which is loved and cherished throughout its lifetime. But bringing out quality within a given period of time can put us into pressure. To solve this problem, seasoned crocheters have invented Corner-to-corner stitch pattern.

The pattern is very simple and involves Double crochet, slip stitch and chains, but its rich and intricate look that it gives out makes an impact and mesmerizes us. We can create any pixelated art into blankets or pillows or drapes using this stitching style. If you search for C2C or Corner-to-corner crochet stitch, you will be amazed to see the extent of interesting and unique creations. After learning the stitch, I fell in love with it.

The challenge for me was finishing the blankets within 30 day time period and I could dedicate only 5 hours on a particular day for this. The problem compelled me to look for patterns that will meet my requirements and benchmark. Moreover, I was inclined to use C2C for blankets as home decor. The graphghans (graph afghans), or pixel art blankets are specifically targeted for kids rooms. After mulling for over a week, I decided to make a Chessboard graph.

However, I was unaware of the quantity of wool required to complete the project. Since, I had 12 balls of taupe and green colour yarn balls, (each 50gms) bought for an adult throw, my concern was completing the chessboard graph even before I run out of yarn. As a solution, I decided to make a square swatch first using 1 ball of each taupe and green colour. Depending on the amount, I continued making squares of each ball. After completing 10 balls, I estimated the pattern and number of squares required.

Process:

The pattern is corner-to-corner(C2C) crochet. There is the total of 30 square blocks of 2 colours. Square blocks of 9″ each is made using taupe and green colour wool. Each square block is worked diagonally.

Corner-to-corner crochet is always worked diagonally. For any square block, the stitch is increased diagonally and then decreased to form a square. For more information, check out the video.

Each block of green and taupe colour is sewed using Invisible Stitch alternatively.

Note: I stitched horizontally and then vertically (at one go) to avoid any knots and joints. I laid the square pieces and measured the yarn required to sew. With additional 4-5″ to the measured length, I started sewing the squares.

Pattern:-

The pattern can be divided into 2 sections.

  1. Taupe Square
  2. Green Square

Taupe Square:-

C2C¹ crochet one square block of taupe for 15 times. Then start decreasing C2C crochet to end the square.

Make 15 such square blocks.

Green Square:-

C2C¹ crochet one square block of green for 18 times. Then start decreasing C2C crochet to end the square.

Make 15 such square blocks.

¹C2C crochet stitch:

  • R3: Repeat R2 ]

²Decreasing C2C crochet stitch

  • [turn the last row. slip stitch on 1st DC, 2nd DC, 3 DC.
  • Slip Stitch(SL ST) chain 3 space. (Chain 3, 3 DC) in same chain 3 space.
  • Continue (SL ST, chain 3, 3 DC) in next chain 3 space.
  • Repeat till the last 2nd block. SL ST in the last chain 3 space. ]

Caution Section:-

  1. The selection of the yarns is important. The thickness and elasticity of the yarn and the chosen crochet hook determines the design.
  2. Also, your technique impacts the smoothness or finished look. Everyone has different technique ranging from tight stitching style to medium to loose stitching styles.
  3. In case, you are unable to get the required chosen coloured yarn of same thickness, you can change the crochet hook and your technique as you go around, to get the seamless look. For me, I chose 2 different crochet hook and used the same technique.
  4. The wool gauge of taupe and green are different. To get the square of 9″ each the no. of stitches are decreased or increased.
  5. The Crochet hook is also changed based on the wool. For taupe, 5.5mm hook is used. For green, 5mm hook is used.

Product Specifications:

Defining Dimensions:-

  • Length: 54″
  • Width: 45″

Remember: do not overdo it. This hides the beauty of the pattern itself. Believe in elegant simplicity!!

Crochet C2C Woof! Woof! Baby Blanket / Graphghan - Knot My Designs

Woof! Woof! Baby Blanket

An urgent demand to complete led me to try out ChiWei’s C2C Dog Zodiacs. I tried creating a sketch on pixel art app but it was consuming too much of my time.

I always love browsing patterns and designs of other crocheters and knitters. This helps me to put my thoughts into a paper. I wanted to make something cute and neutral colours for a baby. Be it a girl or a boy, the non-blue and non-pink selection can be served as the most appropriate gift.

ChiWei’s zodiacs are animal graphics that can be easily turned into separate cute blankets or bags for the babies and toddlers. The colour range is bright yet soothing to the eyes. Thus, I decided to follow it religiously. But, this is not me. I never try out the pattern the same way it is. I always amend the rules. So, after one section, I changed the colour selection.

Process:

The vision of this Woof Woof blanket was 4 dog square graph in a blanket. 2 dogs (same colour selection) placed diagonally.

The pattern uses Corner-to-Corner (C2C) stitch.

The pattern contains 3 parts:

  1. Light brown, blue eye patch Dog – Blue Patch Dog
  2. Dark brown, orange eye patch Dog – Orange Patch Dog
  3. Edging.

Blue Patch Dog:-

The colour keeps changing as the pattern demanded. I made few changes on the yarn colours as per the specified square graph.

The base colour is yellow. The dog is beige colour. Ears, tail and paws are brown fur-yarn. The blue yarn for an eye patch. Dark Maroon for the nose. Red colour for the dog.

Orange Patch Dog:-

The Chocolate brown dog square graph on white base requires the same graph, replacing

  • the yellow base with white base
  • skin colour dog to dark brown colour throughout
  • Ears and tail is also dark brown colour
  • blue blotch to orange patch with the additional white spot.
  • Dog collar is red yarn
  • Beige yarn for nose and Off grey for paws.

Edging:-

There are 2 types of edging.

Dog Edging is an edging after each dog square graph.

After completing the Dog square graph,

1. Single Crochet (SC) around. [For DC, make 2 SC stitch to maintain the same size. 3 SC in the 4 corners to give a perfectly square corner.]

2. 2 rows of DC. DC in every SC. 3 DC on the middle SC of (3 SC corner) on the previous row.

Blanket Edging is the edging of the whole blanket.

Sew all the 4 Dog square graphs to form the blanket using the Invisible Stitch. Work on the edging on the blanket.

  1. 2 rows of SC using yellow colour yarn. SC in every DC, 3 SC on the middle DC of (3 DC corner) on the previous row.
  2. 2 rows of SC using white colour yarn. SC in every SC, 3 SC in the middle SC of (3 SC corner) on the previous row.
  3. Work on 1 row of Reverse Single Crochet (RSC) or Crab Stitch around using white yarn.

Pattern:-

The blog provides a colourful graph indicating the detailed version of the colours each square should present.

This pattern requires proper counting and marking after completion of each square to avoid any mistakes.

  1. Print the coloured graph ( or black n white graph and mark the colours) and mark the total rows and columns. It is 23X23. The C2C corner stitch grows diagonally.
  2. Starting with C2C Crochet Stitch (focusing on the colour change) increase diagonally till the count 23.
  3. Start decreasing C2C Crochet Stitch (focussing on the colour change as per the graph) decrease till the count reaches 1.

¹C2C crochet stitch:

  • R3: Repeat R2 ]

²Decreasing C2C crochet stitch

  • [turn the last row. slip stitch on 1st DC, 2nd DC, 3 DC.
  • Slip Stitch(SL ST) chain 3 space. (Chain 3, 3 DC) in same chain 3 space.
  • Continue (SL ST, chain 3, 3 DC) in next chain 3 space.
  • Repeat till the last 2nd block. SL ST in the last chain 3 space. ]

Caution Section:-

  • In case you are trying out C2C crochet stitch for the first time, work on a scarf or a blanket with the change of colours. Either you can opt for square block and stitch together, or you can change the colours after 2-3 rows diagonally.
  • The complete dog pattern consumed 16″. Thus I added 2″ individual edging also 2″ complete edging to get the complete blanket of 40×40. Thus the yarn thickness and crochet hook used will change the dimensions of the pattern.
  • You might use multiple balls of the same colour in the pattern, or cut the yarn, leave 2-3 inch yarn for tight sew.

Product Specifications:

Defining Dimensions:-

  • Length: 40″
  • Width: 40″

Optional Alterations:-

  • The sizes can be changed based on your requirement.
  • The edging can be made of Single Crochet (SC), Crab Stitch, Slip Stitch, Herringbone Half Double Crochet (HHDC).
  • Instead of regular yarn, fur yarn will bring out a pop to the border.
  • Instead of going for 3rd colour for the border, use both the base colours around for alternate rows.
    • The border shouldn’t be too broad to pop out. The purpose should be to provide a clean edge.

  • Instead of going for 3rd colour for the border, use both the base colours around for alternate rows.
    • The border shouldn’t be too broad to stand out. The purpose should be to provide a clean edge.

Winter/Fall Seasoned Crochet Blue Backpost Slouch Beanie Free Pattern for an adult woman - kNot mY deSigns

Blue BackPost Slouch Beanie

In the previous blog posts, I have been talking about gender-based fashion – feminine, masculine and unisex. But fashion is not only about “Shrink and Pink”, “Cool Blue Men”, Confused Identity Unisex, it is so much more. Fashion is change. As change is the only inevitable constant, same is with the fashion. It survives, breaths and brings joy when it challenges thoughts, outbreaks the defined set patterns and innovates new style.

So what is Fashion for you?

“To some, fashion is an art form. To others, it is almost like a religion. For most people, though, fashion is a method of utilising clothing, accessories, and grooming to show or hide something about yourself. Fashion can be an extension of your personality, allowing you to introduce parts of your personality to the world without saying a word. Conversely, the way you dress can also conceal parts of your personality or allow you to play a role: Clothing can be a costume, a uniform or a proclamation of independence. In 2016, fashion is whatever you want it to be. ” ( as described in about style).

Following the mantra of defining oneself through fashion, I selected a pattern, which will give a casual yet bold look to the customer who is both mellow and bold in nature.

Process:

The process is series of Double Crochet Stitch (DC) and Back Post Double Crochet stitch (BPDC). The beanie can be divided into 2 parts -> base and body.

Base:-

Start with a magic circle, ch2 and make 12 DC. Continue increasing by 12 for 6-7 rows and join at ch 2 of every row. To give a more slouchy look I made 84 DC in the last row of the base.

Remember: it should depend on the yarn thickness and recommended crochet hook.

Body:-

1: ch 2, BPDC on 84DC each, join in the 1st BPDC.

2: ch 2, DC on each 84 BPDC. join in the 1st DC.

repeat 1 and 2 till you get the desired length. You can end the brim/edge with one row of Single Crochet or Slip stitch.

Measurement: circumference = 22″ , height = 10″.

Caution Section:-

  • FPDC and BPDC required a bigger crochet hook or loose stitching technique to get a flowy basketweave pattern.
  • Depending on the texture of the yarn, you can either choose a larger crochet hook other than recommended one or you can loosely stitch FPDC and BPDC.
  • For edging the last row, you can change the crochet hook to a smaller size to give a tighter set.

Product Specifications:

Defining Dimensions:-

  • Height of the hat: 10″
  • Circumference: 22″

The sizes could be altered based on the count of the stitches for the rows.

Optional Alterations:-

  • You can increase the base diameter to give a more slouchy feel. Also, increase the height of the beanie.
  • You can add pom-pom matching the colour with the edging or the base colour. There are different ways to create pom-pom.
  • You can attach flowers, beads or a bow made of crochet, plastic, suede leather etc to give cuteness to the hat.
  • You can put fur edging or tassels to give a different touch.

Remember: do not over accessorise it. This hides the beauty of the pattern itself. Believe in elegance simplicity!!

Crochet Christmas Tree Skirt Free Pattern with Peppermint Candy Style - Knot My Designs

Christmas Treeskirt

You better watch out, you better not cry
You better not pout, I’m telling you why
Santa Claus is coming to town
(Big, fat Santa’s on his way)…

Christmas Carols, Christmas decorations, Christmas is on the way!

It’s Christmas! Every mall, every store, every home looks beautiful decorated with Poinsettia, candles, lights, stockings, gift-wrapped items, wreaths made with pinecones and lots of other ornaments. But any decoration is incomplete without a Christmas tree!

History (wiki) says that according to the Encyclopædia Britannica, “The use of evergreen trees, wreaths, and garlands to symbolise eternal life was a custom of the ancient Egyptians, Chinese, and Hebrews. Tree worship was common among the pagan Europeans and survived their conversion to Christianity in the Scandinavian customs of decorating the house and barn with evergreens at the New Year to scare away the devil and of setting up a tree for the birds during Christmastime.”

Another folk version defined Christmas tree as “Tree of Paradise in remembrance of the birth of Adam and Eve; where the tree with apples is now replaced with the red shiny baubles.”

In modern world, we decorate them with bells, candy canes, snow globes, lights, garlands, ribbons, tinsels, golden, silver and other different colored baubles; the tree skirt covers the tree stand;  snowman or reindeer shaped ornaments are hanged; and a star at the tree top is added to complete the decoration.

Process:

When my customer was decorating her Christmas tree, she approached me for Christmas tree skirt for her tree. After gathering the details about the decoration theme, I decided to make a peppermint candy style tree skirt with nude and red yarn. I followed the Redheart – Peppermint Candy Throw and Pillow pattern.

But it was difficult to get the initial startup. So, I used SmoothFoxLover – Christmas Tree Skirt to get the start.

My tree skirt dimension was supposed to be 50″ in diameter. I worked for 6 rows as mentioned in the pattern. Then instead of switching yarn at alternate rows, I followed the Redheart – Peppermint Candy Throw and Pillow procedure to continue further. I kept on increasing counts till the skirt diameter was 50″.

Pattern:-

The design is evolved from bits and pieces of 2 different patterns. It can be divided into sections for better understanding.

  1. Initial Shell stitch line.
  2. Expansion of the Open Base.
  3. Peppermint Style Body

Initial Shell Stitch line:-

R1: With Bone Color (Base Color- BC). Chain 5.

R2: Double Crochet (DC) in the 4th chain from the hook, DC in the 5th chain in the hook. (A shell is created) Do not cut the yarn; do not turn.

R3: Chain 5, DC in the 4th and 5th ch as in R2.

Repeat R3 or keep adding shells to the line 16 more times. Do not cut the yarn.  Total 18 shells, 36 DC, 18 ch-3 space.

Expansion of the Open Base:-

R1: Join Autumn Red (Contrast Color-CC) on the right side (RS); (Ch 2, DC, Ch 2, 2DC) in the 1st ch-3 space. Make [V stitch]¹ on every ch-3 space. Turn. Total 18 V stitches, 72 DC, 18 ch-2 space.

R2: Continue with CC on the wrong side (WS); Slip Stitch on 1st DC. Ch 3, [V stitch]¹ in the 1st ch-2 space, DC in DC, *Skip 2 stitches, DC in next stitch, [V stitch]¹ in ch-2 space, DC in DC*; repeat *-* till the end. Skip the last stitch. Turn. Total 18 V stitches, 108 DC, 18 ch-2 space.

R3: RS: Slip Stitch on 1st DC. Ch 3, DC in next DC, [V stitch]¹ in the 1st ch-2 space, DC in 2 DC, *Skip 2 stitches, DC in 2 DC, [V stitch]¹ in ch-2 space, DC in 2 DC*; repeat *-* till the end. Skip the last stitch. Turn. Total 18 V stitches, 144 DC, 18 ch-2 space.

Peppermint Style Body:-

R1: using Base color (carrying CC in the back), Ch 2, DC in 4 DC, 2 DC in ch-2 space, DC in 4 DC; *with CC in front and BC in back (DC in 4 DC, 2 DC in ch-2 sp, DC in 4 DC), with BC in front and CC in back (DC in 4 DC, 2 DC in ch-2 sp, DC in 4 DC)*; repeat *-* till the end, ending with CC 10 DC.Turn. Total 180 DC. 90 BC- DC, 90 CC-DC.

R2: Using CC in front and BC in back; Ch 2, DC in 9 DC, 2DC in next DC; *with BC in front and CC in back (DC in 9 DC, 2DC in next DC), with CC in front and BC in back (DC in 9 DC, 2DC in next DC)*; repeat *-* till the end, ending with CC 11 DC.Turn. Total 198 DC. 99 BC- DC, 99 CC-DC.

R3: Using BC in front and CC in back; Ch 2, DC in 10 DC, 2DC in next DC; *with BC in front and CC in back (DC in 10 DC, 2DC in next DC), with BC in front and CC in back (DC in 10 DC, 2DC in next DC)*; repeat *-* till the end, ending with CC 12 DC.Turn. Total 216 DC. 108 BC- DC,108 CC-DC.

Repeat R2- R3 till you get the desired diameter. I aimed for 50″.

¹[V Stitch] – (2 DC, Ch 2, 2DC) in same chain space.

Caution Section:-

  1. This tree skirt contains 2 colours divided into alternate Red and Bone colour 6 times.
  2. Make sure the next row should match the colour sequence of the previous row.
  3. Carry the other colour in the back to avoid knots and joining of the yarn.

Product Specifications:

Defining Dimensions:-

  • The diameter of the tree skirt: 50″.

Optional Alterations:-

  • The sizes can be changed based on your requirement.
  • You can add a different colour edging to the tree skirt.
  • The edging can be made of Single Crochet (SC), Crab Stitch, Slip Stitch, Herringbone Half Double Crochet (HHDC).
  • Instead of regular yarn, fur yarn will bring out a pop to the border.
  • Instead of going for a different colour for the border, use both the base colours around for alternate rows.
    • The border shouldn’t be too broad to pop out. The purpose should be to provide a clean edge.

Remember: do not over accessorise it. This hides the beauty of the pattern itself. Believe in elegance simplicity!!

Crochet Cherry Wherry Slouch Santa Hat Free Pattern for an adult woman for Christmas - kNot mY deSigns

Cherry Wherry Slouch Santa Hat

When any kid thinks of Christmas, he thinks of Santa Claus and gifts. There are conflicting stories regarding the origin of Santa’s Costume- the Red robe with white fur border was designed by Coca Cola company.

But why Christmas explains that it was Thomas Nast from Harper’s Weekly Magazine illustration, who designed the costume. “On January 1st, 1881, Harper’s Weekly published Nast’s most famous image of Santa, complete with a big red belly, an arm full of toys and smoking a pipe!”

In continuation to making presents for my family on the auspicious occasion of Christmas, I decided to treat myself with a white-red colour combination hat. Initially, I thought to make a simple pom-pom Santa-Claus Hat. But then I changed my mind and decided to give it a twist. I can say this is my own pattern. It is a simple easy pattern that anyone can try making for themselves. It can be made of any colour combination you like. You can add either a crochet flower or pom-pom or both as an embellishment. I gave a slouchy effect with a broader edge which can be folded or unfolded and can be used as 2 different hat styles. One you can show-off as a slouchy beanie and another one you can fold around the brim to use as a simple beanie.

Process:

Ribbed Band:-

With white yarn, Chain 16. Back Loop Single crochet for 15 chains. Continue until the band reaches the 22-23″ (i.e. 72 rows). Join the ends. Run one round of single crochet at each single crochet edge of the band with the same yarn. Do not cut the yarn. Attach red yarn and start working on the base.

Note: The ribbing stretches by 2″-4″ depends on the crochet hook and yarn and your style.

Base:-

Double Crochet On every single crochet (72). Repeat this in every row till the hat is 3-4″ or repeat up till 10 rows. Start decreasing 6 stitches evenly till the end round contains 12 DC. This means that

1: Double Crochet Together (DCtog) every 5th and 6th DC in the row. Total DC left = 60.

2: Double Crochet Together (DCtog) every 4th and 5th DC in the row. Total DC left = 48.

3: Double Crochet Together (DCtog) every 3rd and 4th DC in the row. Total DC left = 36.

4: Double Crochet Together (DCtog) every 2nd and 3rd DC in the row. Total DC left = 24.

5: Double Crochet Together (DCtog) every 1st and 2nd DC in the row. Total DC left = 12. Sew the ends.

Caution Section:-

  1. The ribbed band size depends on the target age as the circumference is made after sewing the rectangular band.
  2. Also, depending on the yarn thickness and elasticity, and crochet hook the ribbed band will stretch between 1″-3″.
  3. Make sure the number of rows ends in an even number.

Product Specifications:

Defining Dimensions:-

  • Height of the hat: 10″
  • Circumference: 23″
