Hi Diana,
First of all, thank you so much for loving the pattern!!!
For question 1: I slip stitch and chain in the same stitch throughout. In the same beginning stitch, I do the stitch. so the chain (ch 1 or ch 2) is sort of filler. Join at the beginning of the ch 1/ch 2 stitch. You have an extra stitch to diffuse the join and create a straight vertical join.
For question 2: Because there are 2 stitches at the beginning the row join align in a single line vertically. I do not have the beanie with me anymore as it was a custom order but you can try it out and let me know if this creates a seamless join for you. I will try to recreate the pattern again soon and update it here.

Take care and stay safe!

Hi...I have a couple of questions on your Canary herringbone slouch beanie. When you connect at each row you join with a slip stitch to the first stitch, then you procedure in that same stitch with a chain one or chain two depending on what row you're working on. So my question is after you do your slip stitch join and chain in that same stitch, is that considered all you do in that stitch:(the beginning stitch for the row) or do you also put your first stitch for that row also or do you go to the next stitch to put that new stitch. Also, where you are joining each row do you end up having a slanted row up the back of the hat where you've joined each row, or do you get a straight tow up the back of the hat. Would it be possible to see the back of the hat you've made to get a better idea as to how it looks. Thank you. I love the pattern so far. Diana
