Crochet Persimmon C2C Diamond Throw - Knot My Designs

Persimmon C2C Diamond Throw

Some are addicted to chocolates, others few are to shopping; I got addicted to C2C crochet stitch. Corner-to-corner crochet stitch is a common passion for crocheters. It is a treasure chest for any crocheter that has an infinite number of patterns, animated objects, animals, flowers and more to offer. All you need is a pixel art of what you want to make. You can easily find grid graphs online made available by many generous crocheters for us to work on and create beautiful art with yarn.

I tried hard not to get addicted to C2C crochet stitch after working on Woof! Woof! Baby Blanket and C2C Checkered Lap Blanket. So, I decided to make a chevron patterned lap blanket as something to take me away from C2C. I was halfway into crocheting the blanket when I realized that the difference in the thickness of the yarns (I bought) was adding additional weight to it. Also, I was running out of time.

I decided to drop the idea and I started looking for new crochet stitches, which will make a gorgeous blanket using rust, pale orange and cream combinations of yarn. I stumbled upon this Pinterest picture. Guess what! It was corner-to-corner crochet diamond shape blanket.

Call it luck or love, I was back to C2C.

Process:

The Ravelry link from C2C Diamonds Blanket for Baby Hemmesch described the pattern as

C2C¹ Squares Pattern:
4 rows grey
2 rows gold
2 rows mint
2 rows grey
3 rows mint (start decrease on 3rd row of mint here)
2 rows grey
2 rows mint
2 rows gold
4 rows grey

I changed the grey to cream, gold to pale orange and mint to rust.

One way to get the overall diamond-shaped design is to start with small parts and then add them together. Starting with making 12 rows diagonal line patterns, measuring up to 8″, join four of these parts together to form a diamond shape. However, after working on the above pattern separately, I realized that quite a lot of yarn was getting wasted while changing colours. Also, the higher number of knots, the higher chances of the yarn getting entangled between.

In my previous C2C Checkered Lap Blanket, I had used 15 squares of Taupe (measuring 10″) n 15 squares of Green (measuring 10″) to make 60×40 size blanket. So in order to achieve the same size in this particular blanket, I would have to work on 30 bits of the diagonal pattern. This would also require securing the knots of every piece, sewing the stranded yarns of every piece, and stitching these parts into a blanket. It seems to be a pointless investment of time and energy.

Therefore, I decided to create a bigger C2C¹ Diamond graph and join them to make a blanket. I completed the 4 pieces of the diagonal pattern and joined them. Using this section as one diamond pattern, I created the diamond a graph. Now the graph has 24 rows measuring up to 16″. The graph is a continuation of the small pieces. I was glad about the outcome since the final pattern remained unchanged and helped me save the time and energy.

I was able to complete the project in a month easily, with there is less wastage of yarn and less hassle of securing the knots.

P.S. I avoid too many joints in my work assuming if the blanket is used roughly, the stitch will still guarantee a long run. Provided that the wash care instructions are followed for maintaining the originality of the product. You can still opt for 8″ diagonal squares.

Pattern:-

The number of rows to work is 24. The total size of this square is 16″. To achieve the 64X40 size blanket.

C2C Diamond Graph = 8

C2C Extended Diagonal Graph = 4

I have joined these squares using Invisible Join Stitch.

Note: The size might increase or decrease depending on the yarn and crochet hook used.

¹C2C crochet stitch:

  • [Chain 6.
  • R1: Double Crochet (DC) in 4th chain from the hook. 2 DC in next 2 chains. [ 1st corner block is made]
  • R2: turn the work, chain 6. DC in 4th chain from the hook. 2 DC in next 2 chains.  Slip stitch on the chain 3. (Chain 3, 3 DC) in the same chain 3 space of the previous row. [2nd row contains 2 blocks]
  • R3: Repeat R2 ]

²Decreasing C2C crochet stitch

  • [turn the last row. slip stitch on 1st DC, 2nd DC, 3 DC.
  • Slip Stitch(SL ST) chain 3 space. (Chain 3, 3 DC) in same chain 3 space.
  • Continue (SL ST, chain 3, 3 DC) in next chain 3 space.
  • Repeat till the last 2nd block. SL ST in the last chain 3 space. ]

Caution Section:-

  1. The size of one diamond square segment might increase or decrease depending on the yarn and crochet hook used.
  2. The wool gauge of rust and cream are same but pale range is different. Thus, I have increased the 6:3 ratio of basic C2C crochet stitch to 7:4 Also, I included 4 Double Crochet instead of 3 in C2C crochet stitch.
  3. The same crochet hook is maintained throughout the process.
  4. I avoid too many joints in my work assuming if the blanket is roughly used, still the stitch will guarantee a long run. Provided that the wash care instructions are followed for maintaining the originality of the product. You can still opt for 8″ diagonal squares.

Product Specifications:

Defining Dimensions:-

  • Length: 64″

Optional Alterations:-

    • The border shouldn’t be too broad to pop out. The purpose should be to provide a clean edge.

  • Avoid the border and just add tassels/pompoms made of a mixture of the base colours.

Remember: do not overdo it. This hides the beauty of the pattern itself. Believe in elegant simplicity!!

Crochet Creamy Cute Toddler Sweater Free Pattern - Knot My Designs

Creamy Cute Toddler Sweater

It was an exhilarating experience! My first trial in the making of the sweater, a maiden attempt towards stitching. I felt all the emotions of thrill, fear, anxiety, to the happiness of triumph and pride of achievement.

A naive in stitching and cutting, I do not know the fundamentals of it. I can run a sewing machine for mending stitches, that’s all. This was an interesting experience. The final sweater was much closer to my expectation, but, it turned out to be slightly bigger in size for younger nephew, especially at the sleeves. However, I have nothing to worry, kids grow very quickly. So most likely within a year’s time, it will fit him. Having said that, it was indeed a learning for me. I picked up some understanding about fitting and stitching.

And I must admit, it is pretty impressive for the first attempt. What say?

Process:

I loved the Yarnspirations blog. It contains a lot of patterns with detailed instructions available for free. I was looking for a sweater for a 2-year-old toddler. Since this is my 1st attempt in crocheting a sweater (any size), I loved the instructions and the pictorial measurement. I simply fell in love with this hoodie sweater pattern. It is so darn cute that I wish I had one for myself. The yarn is completely different than the yarn listed on the pattern page. Thus, I focused entirely on the size chart rather than the written pattern. My nephew is 1-year-old but I chose to make it bigger by 1 size so that it fits well. It’s better to make a bigger size than work on exact size, which will be unfit in a couple of months. I made the modifications accordingly. It was quite a challenging task since I had very limited knowledge of making a sweater. The yarn thickness was different than the recommended yarn in the pattern. Thus, I used a different crochet hook. I have listed the modifications I did in case you are in my position.

  1. Initial chain count for the back is 56 to get 11.5″. I raised the length by .5″ more, so instead of 13.5″ it is 14″.
  2. Sleeves are 9″.
  3. The front is also increased by 0.5″ while the length is similar to the back with 14″. The initial chain count is around 44.
  4. The Shoulder width turned out more as 4″. I could reduce it to 3 and left more opening for the neck.
  5. I followed the hood instructions with 4 rows to create the open collar and then sewed all the parts.

 Caution Section:-

  1. Measurement is very important for making any outfit. This one turned out to be for the older nephew than the younger one.
  2. The yarn and crochet size selection can alter based on your availability and preference. Thus check out the complete sizing pictures from the link.
  3. It’s better to make a bigger size than work on exact size which will be unfit in a couple of months.
  4. Initial chain count and 3-4 rows of the pattern will give you the sizing clarity. This might require unwinding a couple of times till you get the desired size.
  5. After creating the Back, make sure you are always measuring the front 2 halves again n again. Especially, when you make the holes for buttons. I miscalculated, thus there is 1″ of an increased size in the front. I have tried to handle the situation while sewing up. Had I measured front along with the back, I would have saved this extra wool and also have gotten the perfect fit.
  6. Sleeves turn out a bit bigger than the body base. Thus after completing the back and the front then only proceed with sleeves.
  7. Since I felt hoodie will enclose the opening of the neck, I didn’t proceed. It is my first attempt at stitching and making of the sweater. I have made a lot of mistakes in the process.
  8. It is best if you use the same yarn ball to avoid imperfection in design.

Crochet Cherry Wherry Slouch Santa Hat Free Pattern for an adult woman for Christmas - kNot mY deSigns

Cherry Wherry Slouch Santa Hat

When any kid thinks of Christmas, he thinks of Santa Claus and gifts. There are conflicting stories regarding the origin of Santa’s Costume- the Red robe with white fur border was designed by Coca Cola company.

But why Christmas explains that it was Thomas Nast from Harper’s Weekly Magazine illustration, who designed the costume. “On January 1st, 1881, Harper’s Weekly published Nast’s most famous image of Santa, complete with a big red belly, an arm full of toys and smoking a pipe!”

In continuation to making presents for my family on the auspicious occasion of Christmas, I decided to treat myself with a white-red colour combination hat. Initially, I thought to make a simple pom-pom Santa-Claus Hat. But then I changed my mind and decided to give it a twist. I can say this is my own pattern. It is a simple easy pattern that anyone can try making for themselves. It can be made of any colour combination you like. You can add either a crochet flower or pom-pom or both as an embellishment. I gave a slouchy effect with a broader edge which can be folded or unfolded and can be used as 2 different hat styles. One you can show-off as a slouchy beanie and another one you can fold around the brim to use as a simple beanie.

Process:

Ribbed Band:-

With white yarn, Chain 16. Back Loop Single crochet for 15 chains. Continue until the band reaches the 22-23″ (i.e. 72 rows). Join the ends. Run one round of single crochet at each single crochet edge of the band with the same yarn. Do not cut the yarn. Attach red yarn and start working on the base.

Note: The ribbing stretches by 2″-4″ depends on the crochet hook and yarn and your style.

Base:-

Double Crochet On every single crochet (72). Repeat this in every row till the hat is 3-4″ or repeat up till 10 rows. Start decreasing 6 stitches evenly till the end round contains 12 DC. This means that

1: Double Crochet Together (DCtog) every 5th and 6th DC in the row. Total DC left = 60.

2: Double Crochet Together (DCtog) every 4th and 5th DC in the row. Total DC left = 48.

3: Double Crochet Together (DCtog) every 3rd and 4th DC in the row. Total DC left = 36.

4: Double Crochet Together (DCtog) every 2nd and 3rd DC in the row. Total DC left = 24.

5: Double Crochet Together (DCtog) every 1st and 2nd DC in the row. Total DC left = 12. Sew the ends.

Caution Section:-

  1. The ribbed band size depends on the target age as the circumference is made after sewing the rectangular band.
  2. Also, depending on the yarn thickness and elasticity, and crochet hook the ribbed band will stretch between 1″-3″.
  3. Make sure the number of rows ends in an even number.

Product Specifications:

Defining Dimensions:-

  • Height of the hat: 10″
  • Circumference: 23″

The sizes could be altered based on the count of the stitches for the rows.

Optional Alterations:-

  • You can increase the base diameter to give a more slouchy feel. Also, increase the height of the beanie.
  • You can add pom-pom matching the colour with the edging or the base colour. There are different ways to create pom-pom.
  • You can attach flowers, beads or a bow made of crochet, plastic, suede leather etc to give cuteness to the hat.
  • You can put fur edging or tassels to give a different touch.

Remember: do not over accessorise it. This hides the beauty of the pattern itself. Believe in elegance simplicity!!

Unisex Crochet Santa Claus's Hat Free Pattern - kNot mY deSigns

Santa Claus’s Hat

Men have a defined sense of fashion and it stays with them throughout and rarely changes. No external factor including women can change this. It could be almost a struggle to bring change in their fashion and make them try out something new. This phenomenon, however, changes in the case of technology. In fact, men would conform to latest updates and gadgets in the market.

Women, on the other hand, embellish their clothing with a lot of addendums like a pom-pom, ruffles, tassels, frills, lace, ribbons, which is seemingly absent in men’s clothing. And I can not disagree further. Any accessory would be a contrast to their masculinity and feel lesser manly.  However, there is an exception to this when it comes to the pompom on the red and white Santa Claus Hat. After all, it’s Christmas Eve!; the festive season, when everyone is anxiously waiting for gifts. Kids are lingering around for Santa to come and hand over their presents, which they have wished for! While everyone is being impish wearing Santa Hat, Elf hat, elf shoes and reindeer horns, men in the family have to join too.

Merry Christmas Everyone! HO! HO! HO!

Process:

The procedure contains Double Crochet (DC), Half Double Crochet (HDC) and a big pom-pom in 3 sections.

  1. Body
  2. Brim
  3. Pompom

Body:-

R1: Started with a magic circle, and 8 Double Crochet stitches (DC).Total 8 DC.

R2: Instead of increasing 2 DC on every DC in next row, I increased by 4 stitches in the 2nd row. *2 DC in next DC, DC in next DC*; repeat *-*. Total 12 DC.

R3: Repeat the row. Total 12 DC.

R4: *2 DC in next DC, DC in next 2 DC*; repeat *-*. The rows are increased by 4. Total 16 DC.

R5: Repeat R4. Total

R6: *2 DC in next DC, DC in next 3 DC*; repeat *-*. The rows are increased by 4. Total 20 DC.

R7: Repeat R6. Total

R8: *2 DC in next DC, DC in next 4 DC*; repeat *-*. The rows are increased by 4. Total 24 DC.

R9: *2 DC in next DC, DC in next 5 DC*; repeat *-*. The rows are increased by 4. Total 28 DC.

R10: *2 DC in next DC, DC in next 6 DC*; repeat *-*. The rows are increased by 4. Total 32 DC.

Continue increasing every row by 4 till your hat circumference is 22-23. I have increased gradually till 84 DC.

Note: The total counts should be greater than 60 for an adult hat. It depends on the yarn, chosen crochet hook and your strength applied in each stitch.

R11: Continued 84DC for 8 more rows.

Brim:-

R1: Changed the yarn to white and start creating the brim by using Half Double Crochet (HDC) in each DC.

R2: Continue it till the brim length is 2-3″ i.e. 8-11 HDC.

Finishing: Cut the yarns and sew all the stranded yarns.

Diff Brim Style: Instead of Single Crochet (SC) or HDC, you can go for alternate Front Post Double Crochet (FPDC), Back Post Double Crochet (BPDC) to create a ribbed brim. No edging.

Pom-Pom:-

Create a big pompom and attach to the starting row.

Product Specifications:

Defining Dimensions:-

  • Height for an adult man hat: 14″
  • Circumference: 23″-24″

The sizes could be altered based on the count of the stitches for the rows.

Optional Alterations:-

  • For edging, you can use white fur, Crab Stitch or Slip Stitch.
  • The complete Santa hat can be made using DC with the last row of edging.
  • Instead of white yarn, you can use white fur yarn to create the brim.
  • You can insert the Santa Belt in the intersection of red and white yarn.
    • For that reduce the Red yarn rows by 4 and DC across using black yarn. Total 84 Black Yarn DC.
    • Create Santa Belt Buckle and stitch it to the hat.

Remember: do not over accessorise it. This hides the beauty of the pattern itself. Believe in elegance simplicity!!

Crochet SkinBrow Legwarmer Free Pattern for winter/Fall season for any adult woman - Knot My Designs

Skinbrow Legwarmer

Simplicity! The word carries a deep meaning in almost every aspect of life; fashion; beauty; architecture; design; and quotes.

We are always fascinated by ornate/intricate work in every field; and in terms of life, handling complication defines maturity. But it is quite OK to follow simplicity. Easy life, no make-up, plain clothes, simple quotes and basic designs. All of these tend to mark an impression too.

I follow this principle when I want to connect with myself and this also reflects in my work. After challenging myself with cables or textured stitches in crochet; I wanted to make a simple double crochet stitched leg warmer for a customer. I chose simple skin colour yarn, which gave a brilliant texture.

The shell stitch, in the end, was a little enhancement to the most simple pattern using the most basic colour. Also, the skin colour provides accessibility to carry your leg warmer with any jeans or dress.

Process:

I used IDesignAdventures-Legwarmers pattern to make the leg warmer for the customer. Instead of keeping the shell pattern aside as an extension, I made it as the part of the design and stitched it across. It is a simple and easy procedure to follow.

R1: Chain 45.

R2: Ch 2, Double Crochet (DC) 45. turn. Total 45 DC.

Repeat R2 till you get the desired circumference.

R3: Make shells at the end.

Make 1 for each leg.

Product Specifications:

Defining Dimensions:-

Winter/Fall Seasoned Crochet Men's Mesh Scarf Free Pattern - Knot My Designs

Men’s Mesh Scarf

Color, patterns, texture and overall combination in clothes can really bring a lot of difference to a person, either making him look more attractive or dull. What more, it can enhance your features and make you look younger or look stout and even old. The challenge is not to drift oneself by the current of fashion, but to design for your audience that ranges from a younger to an older generation. Shades of grey, brown, blue, green and white, and black are well-proven colours that go well with men across all ages.

The customer choice of colours is always considered first. But what if you are stuck with pastel shades in your palette? How can you bring freshness in the product? That’s when the texture of the yarn and the pattern defines the novelty of your product. I brought this shiny soft brown yarn and started my search for a particular stitch that will fulfil my vision. A combination of mud brown pastel shade textured yarn, and beautiful mesh pattern brings novelty to this crochet men’s Mesh Scarf from KnotMyDesigns.

Process:

In my early days of crocheting, I used to follow YouTube videos to learn the pattern before I got comfortable with written instructions. Meladora’s Creation has been my favourite then and now. When I was looking for a scarf pattern which has a closer stitch and does not represent simple straight single crochet or double crochet stitches, I stumbled upon Mens MeshMen’scarf by Meladora’s Creation. It is very easy to follow.

Product Specifications:

Defining Dimensions:-

  • Length: 70″
  • Width: 7″.

Optional Alterations:-

  • If you are using this as a female scarf then-
  • Add a line of tassels to the ends of both sides along the width. 4 Tassels at the corners will also work. You can reduce the size of the scarf as tassels will add another 10″.
  • Attach pom-poms to each of the corners.
  • The tassels or pompoms colour should be of the base colour or any contrast colour. Shades of white, golden, silver, brown, creme, mustard will add the beauty.
  • Pom-poms and tassels can be of wool, faux fur, ribbons, plastic, resin etc. Link to make pom-pom and tassels.
  • The long length edging, you can have a Crab Stitch, Single Crochet, Slip Stitch.

Remember: do not over accessorise it. This hides the beauty of the pattern itself. Believe in elegance simplicity!!

Crochet StemCell Throw/Blanket/Afghan Free Pattern for you - Knot My Designs

StemCell Throw

Maroon and brown colour palettes; even though they are acknowledged as dark colours; when combined with white give a soothing pastel shade. I was drawn to this unique set and was looking forward to creating something that is unisex and ideal for any home with any furniture colour. Thus, I created this unisex throw that could be matched with any dark colour, taupe, brown, red, white coloured furniture. The close stitch gives more warmth than Autumn Lapghan, my first blanket for my home.

Process:

I liked the simple single colour pattern Crochet Lap Afghan, (Crochet Lap Afghan – picture) and decided to blend my chosen palette in this design. The design contains Double Crochet (DC), Front Post Double Crochet (FPDC), Back Post Double Crochet (BPDC), Single Crochet (SC).

Info: The pattern does not exist in the provided website, so I’m writing it out.

Pattern:-

R1: Chain 151, DC from the 3rd chain, DC across. Turn. Total 147 DC.

R2: Ch 2, FPDC in each DC, Turn. Total 147 FPDC.

R3: Ch 2, BPDC in FPDC. Turn. Total 147 BPDC.

R4: Ch 2, FPDC in BPDC. Turn. Total 147 FPDC.

R5: Ch 2, DC in FPDC. Turn. Total 147 DC.

The pattern gets divided into 2 sections:-

Interior:-

Since I wanted my throw bigger than the projected size of the pattern, I started with 151 chains.

  • Using skin brown colour yarn, I copied the rows (1-5) 3times.
  • After 5th row, I changed the colour to dark maroon and repeated the rows (1-5) 3 times.
  • A batch could be described as R1-R5 repeated 3 times.
  • With alternate yarn colours for every batch, I repeated the process up to a total of 4 times.

Border:-

For borders, I used white yarn. Instead of Single crochet (SC) stitch, I used Double Crochet (DC) stitch and mirrored the steps provided in the pattern.

Product Specifications:

Defining Dimensions:-

  • Length: 60″
  • Width: 41″

Optional Alterations:-

  • The sizes can be changed based on your requirement.
  • The edging can be made of Single Crochet (SC), Crab Stitch, Slip Stitch, Herringbone Half Double Crochet (HHDC).
  • Instead of regular yarn, fur yarn will bring out a pop to the border.
  • Instead of going for 3rd colour for the border, use both the base colours around for alternate rows.
    • The border shouldn’t be too broad to pop out. The purpose should be to provide a clean edge.
  • You can add pom-pom or tassels (matching the colour with the edging or the base colour) at the 4 corners. Link to make pom-pom and tassels.
  • Avoid the border and just add tassels/pompoms made of a mixture of the base colours.
  • You can attach flowers, beads, appliques or a bow made of crochet, plastic, suede leather, fabric etc to make it more interesting.

Remember: do not over accessorise it. This hides the beauty of the pattern itself. Believe in elegance simplicity!!
