Marled Slouch Toddler Beanie

Crochet Marled Slouch Toddler Beanie Free Pattern - Knot My Designs

Marled Slouch Toddler Beanie

Have you taken a ride on a camel? If not, then I will suggest to try out once. The after effects will be painful but it will definitely be an experience of your lifetime. Even if you have experienced horse riding, the sitting and the ride of a camel is completely different.

The camel is made to seat on the ground and you are supposed to ride to the seating placed in between the humps on the shoulder. The rider will make a whoosh hoosh, cluck! cluck, indicating the camel to rise up and stand.

Whoaaa… it was an adventure that I’ll never forget. I did have leg and back pains due to the humpy walk of the camel but I enjoyed the ride for sure.

You will be thinking, why on earth I am sharing this experience and tempting you to try it. I just recalled my trip with camel when I was making camel stitch for this beanie.

I will say try out both, you’ll love these experiences. 🙂

Process:

The free crochet pattern is made from top to bottom in rounds. The beanie is created using Half Double Crochet stitch (HDC) and Knit Style stitch or Camel stitch (CS) i.e. Half Double crochet in 3rd loop stitch. The process has a base and body.

Base:-

R1: Starting with Magic Circle, CH2, 10 HDC; join at the 1st HDC using SL ST. Total 10 ST.

R2: CH2, 2 HDC in every HDC; join at the 1st HDC using SL ST. Total 20 ST.

R3: CH2, HDC in HDC, 2 HDC in next HDC; repeat ; join at the 1st HDC using SL ST. Total 30 ST.

R4: CH2, HDC in 2 HDC, 2 HDC in next HDC; repeat ; join at the 1st HDC using SL ST. Total 40 ST.

R5: CH2, HDC in 3 HDC, 2 HDC in next HDC; repeat ; join at the 1st HDC using SL ST. Total 50 ST.

R6: CH2, HDC in 4 HDC, 2 HDC in next HDC; repeat ; join at the 1st HDC using SL ST. Total 60 ST.

R7: CH2, HDC in 5 HDC, 2 HDC in next HDC; repeat ; join at the 1st HDC using SL ST. Total 70 ST.

Body:-

R8: Change colour to Multi rose, CH2, HDC in every HDC; join at the 1st HDC using SL ST. Total 70 ST.

R9-R10: CH1, HDC in the 3rd loop (hidden loop) of HDC; repeat ; join at the 1st HDC using SL ST. Total 70 ST.

R11: Change back to salmon colour, CH2, HDC in the 3rd loop of the previous row of HDC; join at the 1st HDC using SL ST. Total 70 ST.

R12: CH2, HDC in every HDC; join at the 1st HDC using SL ST. Total 70 ST.

R13-R14: Repeat R12

Repeat R8-R14 for 2 more times.

R29: Change colour to Multi rose, CH2, HDC in every HDC; join at the 1st HDC using SL ST. Total 70 ST.

R30-R31: CH1, HDC in the 3rd loop (hidden loop) of HDC; repeat ; join at the 1st HDC using SL ST. Total 70 ST.

R32: Change back to salmon colour, CH2, HDC in the 3rd loop of the previous row of HDC; join at the 1st HDC using SL ST. Total 70 ST.

R33: CH2, HDC in every HDC; join at the 1st HDC using SL ST. Total 70 ST.

Caution Section:-

  1. Depending on the elasticity of the yarn and your stitching style, the brim length can increase or decrease. To get the optimal size, join the edges roughly using SL ST and check the circumference after stretching.
  2. The yarn is 4ply or fingering yarn and I have used small crochet hook of 4mm. You might need to use the recommended crochet hook that is displayed.
  3. The number of rows and stitch count can alter drastically. Focus on the circumference and height specifically for toddlers. If you are using 5mm +crochet hook then your stitch count for every should be between 50-60 and rows shouldn’t cross more than 20.
  4. For 12-24 months toddlers, head circumference is 17-18″, and height is 6.5-7.25.

Product Specifications:

Defining Dimensions:-

  • Circumference: 17″-18″
  • Height: 8″

Optional Alterations:-

  • You can increase the base diameter to give a more slouchy feel. Also, increase the height of the beanie.
  • You can add pom-pom matching the colour with the edging or the base colour. There are different ways to create pom-pom.
  • You can attach flowers, beads or a bow made of crochet, plastic, suede leather etc to give cuteness to the hat.
  • You can put fur edging or tassels to give a different touch.

Remember: do not over accessorise it. This takes away the beauty of the pattern itself. Believe in elegant simplicity!!

Crochet DIY Vestige Yarn Beanie Free Pattern - Knot My Designs, (Do-It-Yourself)

DIY Vestige Yarn Beanie

How to utilize the leftover yarns? Every crocheter must-have come across this question.

Well, I am no exception. But instead of tackling with them at that moment, I try to collect all in my Stash Basket and after 3-4 months or when the basket is almost full, I move on to the next phase. I call this phase of my work as the final game zone.

The limitation is to use the existing stock. The challenge is to come out with new patterns or items that no one should be able to guess about the material used. Every inch of the yarn has to be used to its fullest. That is my ultimate goal. Remember, I do keep all my stock in a neat, clean, smoke and pet free area so that the yarn quality stays as good and fresh as a new stock, also because of love and dedication to every product of mine.

Here, I am presenting one of the patterns that I made as I proceeded with the yarn consumption streak. My attempt was to make one solid colour beanie. Since the yarn got over, I selected another colour to form the brim. All the yarns used are from my Stash Basket only.

If you like the pattern, you can also purchase the new set of yarns and start from scratch. The pattern and the selection of the yarn aren’t linked at all.

Process:

Since I am trying to finish the leftover yarns and still create lovely beanies, I have used the existing patterns from my archives.

  1. Vanilla Mocha Child Beanie – the free crochet pattern is very simple. It is rows of Double Crochet stitches using 2 colours. For beginners, you’ll get the instructions HERE.
  2. Olive Backpost Slouch Beanie – this free crochet pattern contains Back Post Double Crochet stitches and Double Crochet Stitches in rounds. For details, you can check it HERE.
  3. Basic Ash Beanie – here, the free crochet pattern is using Double crochet in rounds which is similar to the pattern, HERE.

Caution Section:-

  1. For any beanie, the yarn and the recommended crochet hook is required. But Depending on your tension, you can increase or decrease the hook size by 1 or 2.
  2. The elasticity of the yarn also brings diversity in the same stitch style. So, even if you use the same yarn and same hook as mine, your pattern might turn out a bit different. But do not worry as it adds uniqueness to your creation.
  3. Here, I have tried to finish up the leftover yarn balls. So, based on the final height of the hat, I have added another yarn.
  4. The thickness of the yarn also defines the length of the beanies, as you can see the dimensions of Slouch beanie and basic beanie are same. But the olive yarn is medium weight than ash colour, the height is bringing a slouchy effect to the beanie.

Product Specifications:

Defining Dimensions:-

  • Height of Vanilla Mocha Child Beanie: 7″
  • Circumference: 19″

  • Height of Olive Backpost Slouch Beanie: 9″
  • Circmference: 22″

  • Height of Basic Ash Beanie: 9″
  • Circumference:22″

Optional Alterations:-

  • You can increase the base diameter to give a more slouchy feel. Also, increase the height of the beanie.
  • You can add pom-pom matching the colour with the edging or the base colour. There are different ways to create pom-pom.
  • You can attach flowers, beads or a bow made of crochet, plastic, suede leather etc to give cuteness to the hat.
  • You can put fur edging or tassels to give a different touch.

Remember: do not over accessorise it. This takes away the beauty of the pattern itself. Believe in elegant simplicity!!

Crochet Texture Weave NewBorn Beanie Free Pattern - Knot My Designs

Texture Weave NewBorn Beanie

Sometimes I fell in love with the same style so much that I try to replicate it in every other or upcoming product too. Have you felt this? You discover something so appealing that you select the yarn that suits the pattern, not the opposite.

By looking at this beanie, you can guess where I am heading. When I discovered a new pattern for the male adult beanie, Texture Weave Adult Beanie, I was going crazy and started making different coloured beanies for the different age group.

Here, I am presenting another beanie for newborns using the same pattern but with a slight modification. I have added a brim to pop the yellow colour yarn. The contrast colour selection too depends. There are no matching colours, contrast colour synchronicity involved when I went for blue. It was just a gamble and I am happy the way it turned out.

This new awareness gave me an idea to make few more beanies for  using different colour combinations. I hope you are ready to try out this pattern in your choice of colours.

Do share your work on Instagram by tagging @knotmydesigns.

Process:

The pattern is very easy to follow if you are aware of Front Post Double Crochet(FPDC), Double Crochet(DC) and Single Crochet(SC) stitches. It is using the top-bottom approach to form the body and brim of the beanie.

Body:-

To make the base and body of the beanie, I have followed the previous pattern, Texture Weave Adult Beanie. The link will provide you with the detailed row by row instructions to make the beanie. Starting with DC and working on FPDC and DC alternatively in each row.

Brim:-

The brim consists of 6 rows of SC around to get a 2″ width.

Caution Section:-

  • The selection of the yarn is important. The thickness and elasticity of the yarn and the chosen crochet hook determines the design.
  • Also, your technique impacts the smoothness or finished look. Everyone has different techniques ranging from tight stitching style to medium to loose stitching styles.
  • In case, you are unable to get the required chosen coloured yarn of same thickness, you can change the crochet hook and your technique as you go around, to get the seamless look.
  • Since the number of rows alters due to different yarn sizes and crochet hooks, it is best to total up the number of rows required to make 1″. Based on this calculation, the position of the white band can be set.

Product Specifications:

Defining Dimensions:-

  • Height: 6″
  • Circumference: 14″-15″

The sizes can be altered based on the count of the stitches for the rows.

Crochet Furrowed Toddler Beanie Free Pattern - Knot My Designs

Furrowed Toddler Beanie

I want to share a fascinating experience that left an imprint on my mind and cemented my belief in humanity and the love and kindness of people. Humans are social beings, we love people and being around fellow beings, but it’s the situation that makes them suspicious and rude.

On our trip to Talemina Scenic Drive, Arkansas, we took a night rest at a motel. It was a long drive from San Antonio to Oklahoma via Dallas. We arrived at the wee hours and the manager wasn’t so happy receiving us. We took rest and next day, got ready for our trip.

During the checkout process, we started talking to the manager. He was Indian, just like me and was staying there with his whole family for more than a decade. It was an interesting conversation, where he shared his stories and experiences of running this motel, the various types of customer he met and a few awkward incidents. During the conversation, he revealed that at first we were allocated a different room since we were checking in at late hours. But when he saw us, he changed the room keeping our safety under consideration.

It was surprising that our conversation went on for more than an hour and we also got to meet other family members. It was a pleasant experience. Do you know the feeling when you meet a complete stranger in a new city and a new country, but you feel that connection because he/she comes from the same country as yours? There is a sense of familiarity and an invisible bond of sharing the same culture and principles that you hold. Without much words exchanges, we were exchanging numerous experiences, the similar struggles of living in a different country away from hometown. As a gesture of love and appreciation, they served us Rajasthani breakfast (a regional Indian cuisine).

We deeply appreciated them for their hospitality and I decided to gift a beanie to the manager’s son as a token of thanks. Here’s the beanie pattern I made for the son. And they loved it.

Process:

The procedure involves Double Crochet (DC) and Front Post Double Crochet (FPDC) stitches alternatively. For the brim, Single Crochet (SC) stitch is used.

Base:-

R1: Starting with a magic circle; Ch 2, 10 DC; join with Slip Stitch (SL ST) in the 1st DC. Total 10 DC.

R2: Ch 2, 2DC on each DC; join with SL ST in the 1st DC. Total 20 DC.

R3: Ch 2, *DC on DC, 2DC in next DC*; repeat *-*; join with SL ST in the 1st DC. Total 30 DC.

R4: Ch 2, *DC on 2 DC, 2DC in next DC*; repeat *-* to the end; join with SL ST in the 1st DC. Total 40 DC.

R5: Ch 2, *DC on 3 DC, 2DC in next DC*; repeat *-* to the end; join with SL ST in the 1st DC. Total 50 DC.

R6: Ch 2, *DC on 4 DC, 2DC in next DC*; repeat *-* to the end; join with SL ST in the 1st DC. Total 60 DC.

Note: You can stop here for a child size beanie and proceed to R7 to get the desired length Or you can increase by 10 every row (till you get 70-80 DC) for an adult beanie.

Body:-

R7: Ch 2, *DC on DC, FPDC on next DC*; repeat *-* to the end; join with SL ST in the 1st DC. Total 60 DC.

R8: Ch 2, * DC on DC, FPDC on FPDC*; repeat *-* to the end; join with SL ST in the 1st DC. Total 60 DC.

Repeat R8 till you get the desired length.

Here, I continued for 5 rows to get the 2-3″ height of the hat.

Brim:-

Rn: Ch 1, SC on every DC; join with SL ST in the 1st SC. Total 60 SC.

Rn+1: Ch1, SC on SC; join with SL ST in the 1st SC. Total 60 SC.

Repeat Rn+1 till you get 1.5″-2″ of the brim.

Caution Section:-

  1. To increase the circumference you can add another row or you can increase the initial count from 10DC to 12 DC.
  2. Similarly, to decrease the circumference you can stop at the previous row or you can decrease the initial count from 10DC to 8 DC.
  3.  Since the circumference of the front head is smaller than the crown, the last row is made using a tight stitch or one size smaller crochet hook.  This will give a close snug at the brim of the beanie for a proper fit. SC brim will give a tighter snug.
  4. The height of the hat depends on the body of the beanie. The base will give you 2″-3″ in diameter. The brim is best suitable within 1.5″-2″. So, to get the desired height to calculate your body and increase or decrease the row count.

Product Specifications:

Defining Dimensions:-

Circumference: 18″

Height: 8.5″

Optional Alterations:-

  • You can increase the base diameter to give a more slouchy feel. Also, increase the height of the beanie.
  • You can add pom-pom matching the colour with the edging or the base colour. There are different ways to create pom-pom.
  • You can attach flowers, beads or a bow made of crochet, plastic, suede leather etc to give cuteness to the hat.
  • You can put fur edging or tassels to give a different touch.

Remember: do not over accessorise it. This takes away the beauty of the pattern itself. Believe in elegant simplicity!!

Crochet Buff White Ribbed Beanie Free Pattern - Knot My Designs

Buff White Ribbed Hat

Last week, I shared how I creatively turned my mistake into a new style beanie. The only downside of the experience was that I had to devote additional time to start the search again. But the upside is that I didn’t stop the work since the final product wasn’t for the exact age group.  It still made a good gift and I can happily gift to someone and so can you.

Yes, mistakes do pull us down. Afterall, every creation takes a lot of time, energy, effort, love and passion. And a small and silly mistake in these makes the effort go in vain and just adds to the anxiety. So, whenever I start to feel so I just leave the work at that point and take a break. This break can continue for the rest of the day, but it definitely is healthy.

Next morning, I get back to work with a fresh mind. If I get an idea, I start fresh especially when the delivery date is near, or I start looking for newer ideas online. Exploring the creative and talented world through the window of Pinterest gives me a fresh perspective and newer ideas on ways to think differently. Have you tried this? You should give a try…

I can say that unless the customer is specifically asking for a pattern, you can go as imaginative as you want. Who knows you might produce your best work!

Since my last beanie was a bottom-top approach, which gave me a wrong size. I didn’t take the risk to proceed with the similar approach again. I believe I am much comfortable with the top-bottom approach. Adding another row to increase the height is lesser risky than setting the base circumference.

Process:

In this process, I followed the top-bottom approach using Single crochet (SC) and Front Post Double Crochet (FPDC). The pattern is exactly the same as Men’s Black Reversible Beanie

The yarn is completely different than the ones generally found in US Stores. I had to precautiously calculate and measure the hat circumference and size. Even as experienced crocheters we tend to miscalculate because we are comfortable with the certain thickness of the yarn.

I have added 2 rows of single crochet stitch (SC) at the end followed by Reverse Single Crochet (RSC) to give a soft nudge.

I added a pom-pom at the top to pop up the hat.

Caution Section:-

  1. The yarn is 4 ply yarn. Thus instead of going with 72 counts (which is general total counts for adults female), I measured and checked and did 84 count stitch.
  2. So, measure again and calculate again, if you are completely changing your comfort zone. I went from worsted weight (10ply) to sport (4ply) yarn.
  3. Almost a complete 50 gm yarn was consumed for pompom. Plan and buy your yarn accordingly. You might want to increase the count by 1 for pom-pom.
  4. Furthermore, the elasticity of the yarn impacts the sizing and count of stitches. If you are beginner then you might prefer checking after every 2 rows to see if the size is fitting or not.

Crochet Buff Textured Child Beanie Free Pattern - Knot My Designs

Buff Textured Child Beanie

I accept that sometimes mistakes give me a new direction. This beanie is a well-proven example for that.

I was planning to gift an elegant textured hat to my friend. She mentioned that she’s looking for a light off cream coloured beanie but she was not able to find one. So, after a lot of permutation and combination, I ended up with a pattern. From I believed, this was the perfect pattern for the yarn I bought.

I have shared the pattern with you below.  You must be thinking that pattern size is for “AN ADULT FEMALE”, while the heading says “CHILD BEANIE“.

True.

This is where I had made the mistake. I had assumed the counts will be okay and that 72 count is ideal for a female beanie and it was until the brim part.  It was still working great until the first two rows of the body were done. But I continued crocheting, without measuring even the next 2-3 rounds.

And that I finally measured the beanie only after I finished the body. I moved up to the base and had started decreasing the count around the base. This is when I realised that the size of beanie had changed and it was no more of the fit of an adult. Unfortunately, it wasn’t for a teen too! I had confidently assumed since the count is correct so will be the stitches. However, without much disappointed, I finally completed this as a child beanie and again started thinking of other design for an adult female beanie.

Process:

The procedure involves Half Double Crochet (HDC) and Slip Stitch (SL ST) stitches alternatively. For the brim, Single Crochet (SC) stitch is used. The hat is made using bottom-top approach.

Brim:-

R1: Starting with Ch 11, turn. From 2nd loop on the chain SC on every stitch and turn. Total 10 SC.

R2: Ch 1, SC in back loop only (SCBLO); Continue SCBLO in every stitch and turn. Total 10 SCBLO.

Repeat R2 till you get the brim of 14″-15″.

Note: Depending on the elasticity of the yarn and your stitch style, the brim length can increase or decrease. Check Caution Section for detailed information.

I did 72 rows as this is a 4-ply yarn. As you complete the rows, join the BLO on SC and Chains using SL ST. The brim is ready. Try and test again before moving forward.

CH 1 to continue making the body.

Body:-

R1: SC on the edge of every SC; join to 1st SC with SL ST. Total SC count should be equal to the number of rows (excluding the initial chain).

Note: turn the work as the design will be shown inside the beanie/hat. OR else you can continue and later try to convert inside out during final stitch.

R2: Ch 2; HDC in 1st SC, SL ST in next SC; repeat till the end of the round; Join to 1st HDC with SL ST. Total 72 counts= 36 HDC + 36 SL ST.

R3: Ch 1, SL ST on HDC, HDC on SL ST; repeat till the end of the round; Join to 1st HDC with SL ST. Total 72 counts= 36 SLST + 36 HDC.

R4: Ch 2; HDC on SL ST, SL ST in next HDC; repeat till the end of the round; Join to 1st HDC with SL ST. Total 72 counts= 36 HDC + 36 SL ST.

R3: Ch 1, SL ST on HDC, HDC on SL ST; repeat till the end of the round; Join to 1st HDC with SL ST. Total 72 counts= 36 SLST + 36 HDC.

Repeat 4-5 respectively till you get the height of the hat. Sew the top of the hat to close it.

Here, I have tried to decrease the base part of the hat which turned out imperfect. You can try it out too.

Decreasing the base count:-

After completing 4″-5″ for the body (excluding the height of the brim), you can start decreasing the count. Since the total count of my hat is 72, I tried decreasing every 2nd row by 12.

Rn: Ch 2, The last row followed R5. Thus, at every 12th stitch, skip SL ST. Continue HDC on SC, SL ST in next SC for the rest of the stitches. Total  60 count = 36 HDC, 30 SL ST.

Rn+1: Ch 1, at every 11th stitch, skip HDC. Continue SLST  on SC, SL ST in next SC for the rest of the stitches. Total  60 count = 30 HDC, 30 SL ST.

Repeat the above 2 rows till your count is decreased to 12. 6 HDC and 6 SLST. Tie a knot. Sew and join the top.

Caution Section:-

  1. Depending on the elasticity of the yarn and your stitching style, the brim length can increase or decrease. To get the optimal size, join the edges roughly using SL ST and check the circumference after stretching.
  2. Usually, the circumference of the crown is bigger than the brim by .5″ and the count stitch for child beanies range from 50-64 for medium ply yarns. Thus you can adjust the row count for the brim.
  3. The decreasing was tricky for me, so I will suggest that you put a proper count for the last 5-6 rows.
  4. If you feel the hat is getting tighter than expected then you can try to loosen your stitching style as SL ST tends to decrease the size lot more than HDC.

Crochet Sincerely Ribbed Adult Beanie Free Pattern - Knot My Designs

Sincerely Ribbed Adult Beanie

Can you think of a flower whose smell and colour both are favourite to everyone? I have one in my mind. Lavender. It is loved by everyone and has its own charm, which is attractive yet very pleasing.

Do you love Lavender? I do too. This week, I am bringing another beanie pattern. This can be made for both kids and adults (especially men). Here, I have tried to bring that magnetism with mildness through this design. It is simple but appealing. I hope you are liking the new patterns that I am presenting these days.

Process:

The process involves working sidewise rather than in rounds. You make a rectangle of 9″x22″ and join them. The pattern includes Slip Stitch in back loop (BLOSLST), Single Crochet Stitch (SC) and Single Crochet in Back Loop (BLOSC). If neatly done, this can be also be used as a reversible beanie.

Pattern:-

R1: Start with Ch 70 +1.

The number can change based on the target audience. For a teen, it can be reduced to Ch 60; for a big size Ch 80, depending on the final circumference.

R2:  From 2nd ch, SC in every chain and turn. Total 70 counts.

R3: Ch1, BLOSLST in every SC loosely and turn. Total 70 counts.

R4: Ch 1, BLOSC 70 times and turn. Total 70 counts.

R5-R6: Repeat R3-R4.

R7: Ch1, BLOSC 70 times and turn.

R8-R14: Ch1, SC in every stitch across and turn.

R15: Ch1, BLOSLST in every stitch and turn.

R16-R18: Ch1, BLOSC across and turn,

R19- R26: Ch1, SC across and turn.

Repeat 15- 26 till you get 9″ in height.

Join at sides and sew at the top.

Caution Section:-

  1. The pattern is pretty easy to follow. You need to make sure the count does not increase or decrease every row.
  2. The starting chain should be equivalent to the circumference of the head size. For that, ch and join the chain in around and measure the circumference.
  3. You can also work a couple rows of SC and then measure the length to get the idea.

Product Specifications:

Defining Dimensions:-

Length: 9″

Circumference: 22″

Optional Alterations:-

  • You can increase the base diameter to give a more slouchy feel. Also, increase the height of the beanie.
  • This is a Unisex beanie. So in case you are using it as a female beanie, you can add pom-pom matching the colour with the edging or the base colour. There are different ways to create pom-pom.
  • You can attach flowers, beads or a bow made of crochet, plastic, suede leather etc to give cuteness to the hat.
  • You can put fur edging to give a different touch.
  • For men, keep it simple. The colour selection should catch the eye.

Remember: do not over accessorize it. This takes away the beauty of the pattern itself. Believe in elegant simplicity!!

Crochet C2C Penguin Moods Baby Blanket - Knot My Designs

Penguin Moods Baby Blanket

Well, everyone needs a wardrobe change at some point in their lives. So, as a creator, my aim is to bring out new styles not only for female couture but also for the male category. I am optimistic that after sharing some adult beanies especially for men, we will get some more men’s fashion accessories out there.

By the next winter, we should be seeing quite an increase in these sections. What say, ladies! time to impress our gentlemen…

Past few months had been a lot about beanies. To experience a change, I started working on Pixel drawing. I might say that drawing is another form of art that requires a quite lot of study. You try to create your own version of whatever you observe.

Here, I tried different moods of penguin. Penguins are cute little animals, and very apt for any baby product especially the baby blanket, I had in my mind. I wanted to show different moods on 25×25 grid pixel only. I hope after seeing the graphs, your heart would melt and you would say Awww!!!,

My experience of creating new patterns isn’t over yet, rather I am just getting into the pace. I am getting more confident in creating new patterns and I am challenging myself by making more intricate and different patterns.

Hope my zeal to bring out different style ranging from all age groups will excite and encourage you that you would look forward to seeing more such weekend pattern releases.

Process:

Collect the colours that you plan to use in the blanket. Start C2C crocheting and then C2C decreasing crocheting to complete one graph. Repeat the similar process for all the graphs twice. Both the graphs are 25×25.

Make 1 graph and measure its size. It will help you estimate the final size of the blanket. Proceed towards making other 3 parts. For this blanket, each part is 13″ and a final border of 1-2″ makes the blanket 30×30 or 31×31.

This pattern requires proper counting and marking. Do that after completing each square to avoid any mistakes.

Remember:

  1. Print the coloured graph ( or black and white graph and mark the colours) and number all the rows and columns. Here, it is 25×25. The C2C stitch goes diagonally.
  2. Starting with C2C Crochet Stitch Increasing ( focusing on the colour change) increase diagonally for 25 rows.
  3. Start decreasing C2C Crochet Stitch (focusing on the colour change as per the graph) decrease till the count reaches 1.

Edging:-

After completing the 4 parts, join them using the Invisible Stitch. Work on the edging on the blanket.

R1: Using the Base colour ( Skin) – Ch 1, Single Crochet (SC) around each post. 3 SC at the corners.

R2: Start at one corner-  Ch 5 {ch2=DC, Ch3 space},  Double Crochet on the centre SC in the corner 3 SC part; DC in next 2 SC, Ch 1, skip next SC; * Ch1, SKip the next SC, DC in next 3 SC, *; repeat till the next corner; DC on1st SC of corner 3 SCs, Ch 1 on 2nd SC, DC on 3rd SC of the corner 3 SC, DC in next 2 SC, C h 1, skip next SC ] X2; Continue ; join at the 3rd chain of  chain 5 with SL ST in the starting of the row.

R3: Using White Yarn in the ch 3 Space – Ch2, 2DC, Ch 3, 3 DC; Ch1, Skip 3 DC, 3DC in next ch 1 space of previous row; repeat till the end of that row;  In the corner section, 3DC, Ch 1, 3 DC on ch 3 space. continue and complete all the 4 edges of the blanket. Before completing the 4th side of the blanket – 3DC, Ch 3,  2 DC; join at chain 2 of the beginning of the row with SL ST.

R4: Using Grey Yarn in the Ch 3 Space – Repeat R3; join the beginning with SL ST and sew the ends.

R3: Ch 2, Half-Herringbone Double Crochet (HHDC) around each DC. 3 HHDC at the corner DC or 3 HHDC on the middle of the 3 DC group.

¹C2C crochet stitch / Increasing C2C Crochet Stitch:

  • [Chain 6.
  • R1: Double Crochet (DC) in 4th chain from the hook. 2 DC in next 2 chains. [ 1st corner block is made]
  • R2: turn the work, chain 6. DC in 4th chain from the hook. 2 DC in next 2 chains.  Slip stitch on the chain 3. (Chain 3, 3 DC) in the same chain 3 space of the previous row. [2nd row contains 2 blocks]
  • R3: Repeat R2 [3rd row will contain 3 blocks. Likewise, the Row-Number will have same number blocks.]
  • Continue R2 to increase horizontally and vertically up to the required number on the graph.]

²Decreasing C2C crochet stitch

  • [turn the last row. slip stitch on 1st DC, 2nd DC, 3 DC.
  • Slip Stitch(SL ST) chain 3 space. (Chain 3, 3 DC) in same chain 3 space.
  • Continue (SL ST, chain 3, 3 DC) in next chain 3 space.
  • Repeat till the last 2nd block. SL ST in the last chain 3 space. ]

Caution Section:-

Final pointers to keep in mind when working on this project-

  1. Print a colourful graph. If you have the black and white printer then print the graph and colour the blocks using colour pencils or mark S for skin, G for Grey, W for White and so on, so that you do not miss out the shape.
  2. Mark each row and column so that you know which row you are at, while working.
  3. Also, count the number of blocks use 1 colour in that working row. Remember we work diagonally in C2C.
  4. Make one graph and measure the part. Based on this measurement you can calculate the total size of your blanket. You can increase the size of the blanket by
    1. adding few rows of SC and DC around each part.
    2. adding an edge and increasing the edge using DC around.
  5. For e.g. here each part is 13″. In order to get 30″X30″ blanket, I have to add another 4″. I can add a row of SC and another row of DC in each part. Then after sowing them, I can add another one row of SC and DC and HHDC. You can mix and match the options to get your desired size or provide a different border style.

Product Specifications:

Defining Dimensions:-

  • Sectional Grid – 13″x13″
  • Border – 2″x2″
  • Blanket – 30″x30

Optional Alterations:-

  • The sizes can be changed based on your requirement.
  • The edging can be made of Single Crochet (SC), Crab Stitch, Slip Stitch, Herringbone Half Double Crochet (HHDC).
  • Instead of regular yarn, fur yarn will bring out a pop to the border.
  • Select thicker yarn and a bigger crochet hook to get a bigger blanket.
  • Instead of going for the 3rd colour for the border, use both the base colours around for alternate rows.
    • The border shouldn’t be too broad to pop out. The purpose should be to provide a clean edge.
  • You can add pom-pom or tassels (matching the colour with the edging or the base colour) at the 4 corners. Link to make pom-pom and tassels.
  • Avoid the border and just add tassels/pompoms made of a mixture of the base colours.
  • You can attach flowers, beads, appliques or a bow made of crochet, plastic, suede leather, fabric etc to make it more interesting.
  • You can increase the total size of the blanket.

Remember: do not over accessorise it. This hides the beauty of the pattern itself. Believe in elegant simplicity!!

Crochet Elemental Adult Male Beanie Free Pattern - Knot My Designs

Elemental Adult Male Beanie

Since Mother’s Day was in the last week, I took a break from sharing Male beanie patterns and focussed entirely on Mom-Daughter combo Beanie. But this week, I am back with completely simple yet another exciting design.

The wonderful part of creativity is the experiments. There will always be the basic stitches or basic strokes, and shapes. New designs are always permutation of these basic functionalities. The more I am observing my fellow crocheters, the more confidence I am gaining in this concept.

This pattern too follows the same principle. Basic stitches are mixed in rows. That is why the name ELEMENTAL ADULT MALE BEANIE.

It is indeed a challenging task to come up with suave and simplistic designs for male couture. I am loving this challenge. It has definitely honed my skills and increased my love for crochet.

All of the patterns that I have shared with you till date can be made for adults, teenagers and babies. There is no hard and fast rule that a design belongs to a specific age group or gender.

The attraction lies in the selection of the stitches and colour contrast. There are few basic rules to be kept in mind, though while selecting colours and mixing them. And you can create a timeless accessory.

I hope these experiments are fruitful for you and you get to make new designs for your family and friends.

Process:

Repeat R7 and R8 till you get the desired height of the beanie.

Edging:-

SC for 3 rows around.

Caution Section:-

  1. The selection of the yarn is important. The thickness and elasticity of the yarn and the chosen crochet hook determines the design.
  2. Also, your technique impacts the smoothness or finished look. Everyone has different technique ranging from tight stitching style to medium to loose stitching styles.
  3. In case, you are unable to get the required chosen coloured yarn of same thickness, you can change the crochet hook and your technique as you go around, to get the seamless look. For me, I chose one crochet hook and changed my technique for different yarns.
  4. It will be easy if the basics of the hat’s height are defined. For e.g., if the total height of the hat is 9″ and leaving 0.25″-0.5″ for the chocolate fur edging.

Product Specifications:

Defining Dimensions:-

  • Height: 9.5″
  • Circumference: 23″-24″

The sizes could be altered based on the count of the stitches for the rows.

Optional Alterations:-

  • For edging, you can use fur, Crab Stitch, Herringbone Half Double Crochet (HHDC) or Slip Stitch of same or contrasting colours.
  • You can increase the base diameter to give a more slouchy feel. Also, increase the height of the beanie.
  • You can use a different colour for the edging to give a different pop.

Remember: do not over accessorise it. This hides the beauty of the pattern itself. Believe in elegant simplicity!!

Simple Mom-Daughter Beanie

Happy Mother’s Day!!!

Every relationship is celebrated and cherished specifically to remind us about the importance they hold in our lives.

With the busy lifestyle and with the rush to make more money to sustain a living, we sometimes take these relationships for granted. We forget to express the love and care.

Wishing explicitly, saying “I Love You, Mom”, matters more than buying gifts or taking on tours. So, specific weekends are devoted to spending time with your family showering all our love and gratitude.

For me, I do not believe in celebrating days like Woman’s Day, Mother’s Day, Father’s Day, Sibling’s Day, Valentine’s Day etc. I don’t need a special day to show my love to my family or my loved ones. The special privileges on Woman’s Day, don’t excite me either, rather they make me realise that I am not equal to men and therefore the special care and attention.

Keeping these personal thoughts aside, I do wish every Mom a Happy Mother’s Day and hope you’all have a great weekend ahead.

With Mother’s Day celebration knocking at the door, get your hooks ready and make this simple beanie combo. The simplicity of the design will be the last minute gift you can make for your mom.

The value of handmade gifts is much more powerful than any factory-made gadget or device. It shows that we have not only invested money but love and time to make something for you, MOM!

Process:

The pattern is very simple. The top-bottom approach uses Single Crochet stitch (SC) around in every row. The only difference between the mom and daughter beanies are adjusting the diameters and the height of the beanie. That is why the pattern name is Simple Mom-Daughter Beanie.

For mom, you can increase to 7″-7.5″ diameter and 6″-6.5″ for the daughter.  For the base, I started with SC 10 and increased by 10 at every row till I get the desired diameter. Once that is achieved, I continued the total count from the last row for 5″-6″. This increases the height to 7″ for daughter and 7.5″ for mom.

For brim, I added 4 rows of taupe colour continuing the same count and single crochet around. This increased the overall height of the beanie to 1″ more respectively.

Caution Section:-

  1. When working on beanies or hat from top to bottom, the crown sizes matters based on the diameters.
  2. When you start increasing every row evenly, the work should lay flat without any grooves or bumps. You should measure the diameter of the circle created not around the circle.
  3. For child (3-10), the diameter of the crown should be 6″-6.5″. For an adult female, the diameter is 7″- 7.5″.
  4. Single crochet gives a tighter snug. thus depending on the elasticity of the yarn you can use the recommended hook or increase the hook size. The beanie should be stretchable when made.

Product Specifications:

Defining Dimensions:-

  • Circumference for daughter: 18″-19″
  • Height for daughter: 8″
  • Circumference for mom: 22″-23″
  • Height for mom: 8.5″

Optional Alterations:-

  • You can increase the base diameter to give a more slouchy feel. Also, increase the height of the beanie.
  • You can add pom-pom matching the colour with the edging or the base colour. There are different ways to create pom-pom.
  • You can attach flowers, beads or a bow made of crochet, plastic, suede leather etc to give cuteness to the hat.
  • You can put fur edging or tassels to give a different touch.

Remember: do not over accessorise it. This takes away the beauty of the pattern itself. Believe in elegant simplicity!!
