Crochet Persimmon C2C Diamond Throw - Knot My Designs

Persimmon C2C Diamond Throw

Some are addicted to chocolates, others few are to shopping; I got addicted to C2C crochet stitch. Corner-to-corner crochet stitch is a common passion for crocheters. It is a treasure chest for any crocheter that has an infinite number of patterns, animated objects, animals, flowers and more to offer. All you need is a pixel art of what you want to make. You can easily find grid graphs online made available by many generous crocheters for us to work on and create beautiful art with yarn.

I tried hard not to get addicted to C2C crochet stitch after working on Woof! Woof! Baby Blanket and C2C Checkered Lap Blanket. So, I decided to make a chevron patterned lap blanket as something to take me away from C2C. I was halfway into crocheting the blanket when I realized that the difference in the thickness of the yarns (I bought) was adding additional weight to it. Also, I was running out of time.

I decided to drop the idea and I started looking for new crochet stitches, which will make a gorgeous blanket using rust, pale orange and cream combinations of yarn. I stumbled upon this Pinterest picture. Guess what! It was corner-to-corner crochet diamond shape blanket.

Call it luck or love, I was back to C2C.

Process:

The Ravelry link from C2C Diamonds Blanket for Baby Hemmesch described the pattern as

C2C¹ Squares Pattern:
4 rows grey
2 rows gold
2 rows mint
2 rows grey
3 rows mint (start decrease on 3rd row of mint here)
2 rows grey
2 rows mint
2 rows gold
4 rows grey

I changed the grey to cream, gold to pale orange and mint to rust.

One way to get the overall diamond-shaped design is to start with small parts and then add them together. Starting with making 12 rows diagonal line patterns, measuring up to 8″, join four of these parts together to form a diamond shape. However, after working on the above pattern separately, I realized that quite a lot of yarn was getting wasted while changing colours. Also, the higher number of knots, the higher chances of the yarn getting entangled between.

In my previous C2C Checkered Lap Blanket, I had used 15 squares of Taupe (measuring 10″) n 15 squares of Green (measuring 10″) to make 60×40 size blanket. So in order to achieve the same size in this particular blanket, I would have to work on 30 bits of the diagonal pattern. This would also require securing the knots of every piece, sewing the stranded yarns of every piece, and stitching these parts into a blanket. It seems to be a pointless investment of time and energy.

Therefore, I decided to create a bigger C2C¹ Diamond graph and join them to make a blanket. I completed the 4 pieces of the diagonal pattern and joined them. Using this section as one diamond pattern, I created the diamond a graph. Now the graph has 24 rows measuring up to 16″. The graph is a continuation of the small pieces. I was glad about the outcome since the final pattern remained unchanged and helped me save the time and energy.

I was able to complete the project in a month easily, with there is less wastage of yarn and less hassle of securing the knots.

P.S. I avoid too many joints in my work assuming if the blanket is used roughly, the stitch will still guarantee a long run. Provided that the wash care instructions are followed for maintaining the originality of the product. You can still opt for 8″ diagonal squares.

Pattern:-

The number of rows to work is 24. The total size of this square is 16″. To achieve the 64X40 size blanket.

C2C Diamond Graph = 8

C2C Extended Diagonal Graph = 4

I have joined these squares using Invisible Join Stitch.

Note: The size might increase or decrease depending on the yarn and crochet hook used.

¹C2C crochet stitch:

  • [Chain 6.
  • R1: Double Crochet (DC) in 4th chain from the hook. 2 DC in next 2 chains. [ 1st corner block is made]
  • R2: turn the work, chain 6. DC in 4th chain from the hook. 2 DC in next 2 chains.  Slip stitch on the chain 3. (Chain 3, 3 DC) in the same chain 3 space of the previous row. [2nd row contains 2 blocks]
  • R3: Repeat R2 ]

²Decreasing C2C crochet stitch

  • [turn the last row. slip stitch on 1st DC, 2nd DC, 3 DC.
  • Slip Stitch(SL ST) chain 3 space. (Chain 3, 3 DC) in same chain 3 space.
  • Continue (SL ST, chain 3, 3 DC) in next chain 3 space.
  • Repeat till the last 2nd block. SL ST in the last chain 3 space. ]

Caution Section:-

  1. The size of one diamond square segment might increase or decrease depending on the yarn and crochet hook used.
  2. The wool gauge of rust and cream are same but pale range is different. Thus, I have increased the 6:3 ratio of basic C2C crochet stitch to 7:4 Also, I included 4 Double Crochet instead of 3 in C2C crochet stitch.
  3. The same crochet hook is maintained throughout the process.
  4. I avoid too many joints in my work assuming if the blanket is roughly used, still the stitch will guarantee a long run. Provided that the wash care instructions are followed for maintaining the originality of the product. You can still opt for 8″ diagonal squares.

Crochet Circular Wheeling Placemats Free Pattern - Kitchen Decor/ Home decor - Knot My Designs

Circular Wheeling Placemats

The first and the most important lesson we learn in fashion is to avoid over-accessorizing ourselves with ornaments, heavy makeup, and bold outfit.

It is all about striking the right balance between glitz and simplicity, avoiding falling into any extremes. Be it in the makeup, hairdo, dress, or jewelry.

The same concept is applicable in interior designing as well. When decorating a house, we always focus on a central piece that creates an attraction and everything around is, to just complement it, to create a harmony.

Tip: We should follow the same concept while designing crochet products. If we use multi-color yarn, like OMBRE YARN, our optimal choice should be to go for a simple pattern. This not only complements the item but also brings the true color of the yarn.

I already bought a bulk of cotton ombre yarn to make a placemat for dark colored dining table set. I also decided to make a circular placemat. But I was not able to narrow down on the design. I finalized the pattern from PurlSoho – Granny Circular Placemat. But when I started making the placemat, I realized that I am not getting the desired look. So I drop out the plan and started making on my own. The procedure is very simple and looks beautiful. Within a couple of days, I completed the set of 6 placemats. The design resembles a wheel thus Wheeling Placemats.

Process:

R1: starting with a magic circle, make 12 Double Crochet – 12 DC.

R2: ch 2, 2 DC on every DC, join at the 1st DC – 24 DC.

R3: ch 2, *DC over 1 DC, 2 DC in next DC*, repeat *-*. join the round at 1st DC – 36 DC.

R4: ch 2, *DC over next DC, *ch 1, skip the next DC*, repeat *-*, end with Ch 1 and join the 1st DC.

R5: ch 3, *2 DC in ch 1 space, DC over DC*, repeat *-*, end with 2DC over ch 1 space.

R6: ch 3, DC over DC, join with Slip stitch at the 3rd loop of ch 3.

R7: ch 3, *ch 1, Skip the next DC, DC over next DC*, repeat *-*, end with ch 1 and join the 3rd loop of ch 3.

R8: ch 3, * 2 DC in ch 1 space, DC over DC*, repeat *-*, end with 2 DC over ch 1 space and join the 3rd loop of ch 3.

R9: ch 3, DC over DC, join with slip stitch at the 3rd loop of ch 3.

R10: ch 3, *ch 1, Skip the next DC, DC in next DC*, repeat *-*, end with ch 1 and join the 3rd loop of ch 3.

R11: ch 3, *DC in ch 1 space, DC in next DC, 2 DC in next ch 1 space*, repeat *-*, end with 2 DC over ch 1 space, join at the 3rd loop of ch 3.

R12: ch 3, DC over DC, join with slip stitch at the 3rd loop of ch 3.

R13: ch 3, *ch 1, Skip the next DC, DC over next DC*, repeat *-*, end with ch 1 and join the 3rd loop of ch 3.

R14: ch 3, *DC in ch 1 space, DC in next DC, 2 DC in next ch 1 space*, repeat *-*, end with 1 DC over ch 1 space, join at the 3rd loop of ch 3.

Crochet Septagonal Floormat Free Pattern with Non-Slippery base for your home - Knot My Designs

Septagonal Floormat

Triangles, squares, circles, and rectangles. There’s always an inclination towards the geometric shapes. The symmetry creates a structured look and feel, which always attracts in designing any material; whereas non-geometric shapes could be challenging if we do not put complete attention.

“Geometrics are at the heart of good design, whether incorporated with the main décor furnishings or as a contrasting design motif to highlight traditional pieces,” said Steve Lowsky, president of Fort Lauderdale, Fla.-based Pride Family Brands that specializes in casual outdoor furnishings.

“Although there is beauty in intricate nongeometric design elements, there is simplicity in the use of geometrics that is currently providing a calming motif in challenging times. The simplicity of geometrics in a home and outdoor products has multiuse applications,” he added.

Since the customer interiors’ are contemporary, I preferred creating a 7 sided polygon for the rug. We have seen hexagonal, octagonal and circular floor mats but septagon shape has been rarely experimented with. I have used 2 strands of same yarn and created this mat.

Process:

R1: Start with a magic circle and 7 Single Crochet (SC).

R2 – R50: increase 7 SC in each row.

For more clarification, you can check out the 2-Yarn Basket process. The base formation is same. Instead of 6 SC, we are using 7 SC.

Remember to add a layer of Non-Slipper Rubber Grip as spray paint or shelf liner to create resistance when stepping on the mat.

Multicolored Crochet Patched Granny Floormat Free Pattern with Non-Slippery base for your home - Knot My Designs

Patched Granny Floormat

We have classics in every field and the classic in the world of crochet is GRANNY SQUARE pattern.

Anyone who understands crochet definitely knows about granny squares. It is the iconic motif which is popular since 1970. In fact, the proverb “Old is Gold” holds appropriately for this pattern. Every crocheter must have made at least one granny square in their career. There are at least 100+ styles to make a granny square. To make any patchwork related product, granny square is always the 1st choice.

In my initial trial days of understanding crochet, I learned about granny square. Later, when a customer asked for a floor mat, I couldn’t resist making one for the house.

Process:

There are various geometric shapes achieved from this pattern. The basic square pattern is used in the floor mat. I have chosen 4 yarn colours to form granny square motifs. Later, I picked a yarn colour that contrasted well with all the motifs. This contrast colour was used to join these motifs.

There are 2 parts to this pattern-

  1. Granny Square Motif
  2. Joining Granny Squares (as you move along.)

Granny Square Motif Tutorial:-

I followed Bella Coco – Simple Granny Square for making granny squares.

Joining Granny Square Tutorial:-

Remember: To avoid slipping and sliding, non-slippery rubber spray or non-Adhesive Shelf Liner.

Crochet Bobble Placemats - A Kitchen Decor item / A Home Decor Item - kNot mY deSigns

Bobble Placemats

After making a couple of beanies, this was my first attempt to make a mat.  Though I had made the beanies, I considered myself a newbie at a learning stage. I saw the bobble design on a headband but thought of experimenting with the pattern and using it for making a placemat instead.

I had made the previous crochet beanies just following the video tutorials, it was time for the student in me, to put my learning into practice. These placements, therefore, hold special meaning. They helped me get off my comfort zone.

I tried to make a placemat as a wedding present for my friend. I felt it was something useful for the newly wedded couple, as a handmade beautiful home decor item.

Another reason, why this is so dear to me, is because it led to the formation of Tangled, now ‘Knot My Designs’.

After days of toil, I had completed this beautiful set of placements, and this gave me immense confidence and motivation to start my boutique of crochet. I first named it Tangled, since, I liked the animated Tangled movie from Disney, and my friend, Pooja encouraged me to pick this as the name of my maiden venture.

After all, Crochet is a creative intertwining of wool/yarn/threads of different colours,  all tangled into each other to become an accessory or a dress or even a home decor.

But this isn’t it; there is yet another story behind choosing the combination of red and golden for the placemats. Like I always said,

“There is a sincere effort that goes behind every pattern, color combination and design because being a consumer myself I know that an accessory is not just a wearable, it is an adjective to the personality.”

Process:

Starting with the headband from Epicabundance – Raspberry Stitch/ Bobble Stitch,

The colour of the Dining table was dark brown, and I needed something sassy to pair it up. Fortunately, it was the Oscar season, and I was following the usual (red carpet) trends. I liked the actress wearing a Golden dress. And that’s how I finalised on the colour of the yarn; red and golden for the brown table.

So this is the story behind the red carpet inspired ‘Crochet Bobble Placemats‘. Do share your views about this.

Crochet Reddie Flower Hotpads - A Kitchen Decor item / A Home Decor Item - kNot mY deSigns

Reddie Flower Hotpads

Kitchen plays a vital role in every home, on a day to day activity. You may skip sitting in a dining hall or living room, but you’ll never skip stepping into the kitchen. The best part for crocheters is that we can make ample objects out of wool/yarn. This serves 2 purposes; it gives a useful item and a kitchen decor.

When talking of Kitchen items, you come across hot pads. I could never understand the necessity of having a hot pad in your kitchen. Since I wasn’t into baking I never realised that when you use an oven; oven mittens and hot pad are the essential items.

When I was visiting a family, I noticed that they used cork hot pads on the dining table while serving the food. This strikes me that I need to make few hot pads for my home too.

Process:

I found a pattern on Free Craft Project – Flower Hotpad. This was my first attempt to make a flower /petal design with crochet. I used beige colour as the base of flower and ombre red-orange as the main flower petal. I chose the colour that would add to the look whether on a dining table, kitchen countertop or kitchen island.

Product Specifications:

Defining Dimensions:-

  • Size of the HotPad from one petal tip to other: 9″
  • Size a petal: 3″-3.25″

Optional Alterations:-

  • The sizes can be changed based on your need.
  • The open design is the main attraction of the mat. But you can add edging to form in a confined space.
  • The edging can be made of Single Crochet (SC), Crab Stitch, Slip Stitch, Herringbone Half Double Crochet (HHDC).
  • Instead of regular yarn, fur yarn will bring out a pop to the border.
  • Instead of going for a different colour for the border, use both the base colours around for alternate rows.
    • The border shouldn’t be too broad to pop out. The purpose should be to offer a clean edge.

Remember: do not over accessorise it. This hides the beauty of the pattern itself. Believe in elegance simplicity!!

Style Aisle:

  • Choose the colour matching with Kitchen interior.
  • Go crazy with experimental contrast colours with your furniture to pop out a section. Make sure the interiors are mostly containing natural, neutral or earthy colours around.
  • To showcase the pattern, you should always select a base colour and a contrast colour.
  • For the stitches or pattern to be visible clearly, choose lighter shades of yarn.
  • The mat should be different than the Dining Table/Kitchen counter top colour.
  • This is Optional. The rubber liner will avoid slippage on any base – wood, quartz, ceramic, cement, granite, zodiac etc.
    • The liner should not pop out. Select matching colour or subtle colour for your mat.
