Winter/Fall Seasoned Crochet Rich Electric Blue Beanie Free Pattern - Knot My Designs

Rich Electric Blue Beanie

Just like Knobbly Textured Adult Beanie, I taking another dig at non-conventional contemporary style beanie pattern. This Rich Electric Blue Beanie will find many admirers in the feminine couture, however, I will be extremely pleased and surprised if I get any orders from men for this pattern.

The focus here is the same as the previous pattern, which is to bring out a new pattern that can go very well with both; male and female. With the uniqueness of the design, I am targeting a new entrée in the modern look that I believe would redefine the Unisex styling.

I hope that you all like the pattern. I aim to bring the best of two worlds; simplicity in creation and exquisiteness in the overall presentation.

Process:

The process of creating this pattern is very simple. Using Top-Bottom approach, I am defining the base and continuing to the bottom in rounds. The entire beanie is made using Double Crochet Stitch (DC). The horizontal lines are created by working on the 3rd loop of DC (L3DC), the same way as we work on the 3rd loop on Half-Double Crochet.

Pattern:-

Body:

Starting with a Magic Circle, Ch 2, 12 DC; join at the 1st DC with SLST. Total 12.

R1: Ch 2, 2DC in each DC; join at the 1st DC with SLST. Total 24.

R2: Ch 2, * DC in DC, 2DC in next DC*; repeat ; join at the 1st DC with SLST. Total 36.

R3: Ch 2, DC in 2 DC, 2 DC in next DC; repeat ; join at the 1st DC with SLST. Total 48.

R4: Ch 2, DC in 3 DC, 2 DC in next DC; repeat ; join at the 1st DC with SLST. Total 60.

Note: For a child-size beanie, you can stop at R4 and continue with the Body.

R5: Ch 2, DC in 4 DC, 2 DC in next DC; repeat ; join at the 1st DC with SLST. Total 72.

Note: At this level, the diameter of the base should be 6″-6 1/4″ for an adult beanie. To make a large size head, you can increase by 12 in the next row and then start with the body.

Body:

R1: Ch 2, *L3DC on DC across; join at the 1st L3DC with SLST. Total 72.

R2-R4: Repeat R1 for 3 rows.

R6: Ch 2, DC on each L3DC across; join at the 1st DC with SLST.Total 72.

R7: Repeat R6.

Repeat R1 to R7 2 times for the final height of the beanie.

Note: For a tighter edge, add a row of SC.

The size reaches around 9″-10″. Cut the yarn and sew the end.

Caution Section:-

  1. The thickness and elasticity of the yarn may affect the diameter of the base.
  2. The crochet hook recommended vs the crochet hook used defines the design.
  3. You can increase or decrease the count to get the head size. 72 count is ideal for medium head size for men and medium to large head size for women.
  4. Concentrate on the base diameter of the beanie and increase or decrease the rows. Generally, for any adult beanie 60-84, DC is suitable.
  5. Keep measuring the circumference and the height to avoid frogging or rework.

Product Specifications:

Defining Dimensions:-

  • Height: 9″
  • Circumference: 22.5″

The sizes could be altered based on the count of the stitches for the rows.

[Note: The height of the hat is measured from the closed tip to the bottom when the hat is laid flat. ]

Optional Alterations:-

  • You can increase the base diameter to give a more slouchy feel. Also, increase the height of the beanie.
  • This is a Unisex beanie. So in case you are using it as a female beanie, you can add pom-pom matching the colour with the edging or the base colour. There are different ways to create pom-pom.
  • You can attach flowers, beads or a bow made of crochet, plastic, suede leather etc to give cuteness to the hat.
  • You can put fur edging to give a different touch.
  • For men, keep it simple. The colour selection should catch the eye.

Remember: Do not over-accessorize it. This hides the beauty of the pattern itself. Believe in elegant simplicity!!

  1. Not surr if this is how I contact you, I’m teaching myself to crochet by watching YouTube videos. I’m confused about the chain 2 dc in 2 dc then 2 dc in dc. I’m lost , I Wished you could make a video

    1. Hi Shannon,

You can reach out to me through comments or contact page. I am thinking of making videos but that is a different learning process as of now.
regarding the step instruction, the chain 2 dc in 2 dc then 2 dc in dc means in next row, make chain 2 then one dc in next 2 DC stitches (dc in 2 dc) then DC 2 times in next DC stitch (2dc in dc). You have to increase the base evenly by 6 stitches.

Let me know if this clarifies.

      Keep Crocheting!
