DIY Vestige Yarn Beanie

How to utilize the leftover yarns? Every crocheter must-have come across this question.

Well, I am no exception. But instead of tackling with them at that moment, I try to collect all in my Stash Basket and after 3-4 months or when the basket is almost full, I move on to the next phase. I call this phase of my work as the final game zone.

The limitation is to use the existing stock. The challenge is to come out with new patterns or items that no one should be able to guess about the material used. Every inch of the yarn has to be used to its fullest. That is my ultimate goal. Remember, I do keep all my stock in a neat, clean, smoke and pet free area so that the yarn quality stays as good and fresh as a new stock, also because of love and dedication to every product of mine.

Here, I am presenting one of the patterns that I made as I proceeded with the yarn consumption streak. My attempt was to make one solid colour beanie. Since the yarn got over, I selected another colour to form the brim. All the yarns used are from my Stash Basket only.

If you like the pattern, you can also purchase the new set of yarns and start from scratch. The pattern and the selection of the yarn aren’t linked at all.

Process:

Since I am trying to finish the leftover yarns and still create lovely beanies, I have used the existing patterns from my archives.

  1. Vanilla Mocha Child Beanie – the free crochet pattern is very simple. It is rows of Double Crochet stitches using 2 colours. For beginners, you’ll get the instructions HERE.
  2. Olive Backpost Slouch Beanie – this free crochet pattern contains Back Post Double Crochet stitches and Double Crochet Stitches in rounds. For details, you can check it HERE.
  3. Basic Ash Beanie – here, the free crochet pattern is using Double crochet in rounds which is similar to the pattern, HERE.

Caution Section:-

  1. For any beanie, the yarn and the recommended crochet hook is required. But Depending on your tension, you can increase or decrease the hook size by 1 or 2.
  2. The elasticity of the yarn also brings diversity in the same stitch style. So, even if you use the same yarn and same hook as mine, your pattern might turn out a bit different. But do not worry as it adds uniqueness to your creation.
  3. Here, I have tried to finish up the leftover yarn balls. So, based on the final height of the hat, I have added another yarn.
  4. The thickness of the yarn also defines the length of the beanies, as you can see the dimensions of Slouch beanie and basic beanie are same. But the olive yarn is medium weight than ash colour, the height is bringing a slouchy effect to the beanie.

Product Specifications:

Defining Dimensions:-

  • Height of Vanilla Mocha Child Beanie: 7″
  • Circumference: 19″
  • Height of Olive Backpost Slouch Beanie: 9″
  • Circumference: 22″
  • Height of Basic Ash Beanie: 9″
  • Circumference:22″

Optional Alterations:-

  • You can increase the base diameter to give a more slouchy feel. Also, increase the height of the beanie.
  • You can add pom-pom matching the colour with the edging or the base colour. There are different ways to create pom-pom.
  • You can attach flowers, beads or a bow made of crochet, plastic, suede leather etc to give cuteness to the hat.
  • You can put fur edging or tassels to give a different touch.

Remember: do not over accessorise it. This takes away the beauty of the pattern itself. Believe in elegant simplicity!!
