Winter / Fall Seasoned Crochet Taupe Pearl Throw / Afghan / Lap Blanket for everyone - Home decor - Knot My Designs

Taupe Pearl Throw

After the success of Autumn Lapghan, I got an order to make another blanket for a customer. Though lap afghan was for personal use, it was highly liked and appreciated in on social media such as Facebook, Instagram. This gave me the courage to make more of such big projects.

Since the customer is a bachelor and he is preferring a blanket/throw for his bachelor pad, I wanted to offer some simple colour combination that will look elegant in the house and comfy enough for daily use. It could be a unisex colour combination that will act as a decorous home decor item.

Process:

I liked the pattern Yarnspirations – Quick & Easy Blanket pattern. I decided I’ll even use the same colours but I end up choosing different colours. The pattern changed from Slip-Stitch and Half Double crochet to Single Crochet and Double Crochet. The pattern is having 2 parts: body and border.

Body:-

The pattern uses single crochet instead of slip stitch and double crochet instead of half-double crochet. The pattern includes 5 DC and 5 SC as one set.

Chain 55+ till you get 52″-55″+1.

Please note: the chain count should be in multiples of 5 where the design should be (5 DC – 5 SC) set ending with 5 DC. In my case, the chain was 105 with (5 DC – 5 SC)*20 sets with additional 5 DC in the end.

R1: SC in 2nd chain from the hook. 4 SC in 4 CH, 5 DC in 5 Ch, 5 SC in 5 Ch; repeat from . turn.

R2: (In back loops only), SC in every SC, DC in every DC. turn.

R3: (In back loops only), Ch 2, DC in every SC, SC in every DC.turn.

Repeat R2-R3 till get the desired length.

Borders:-

I didn’t make the border on all 4 sides. It is just an extension of the blanket width wise. I did one row of single crochet then one-row double crochet and then one row of single crochet. I repeated this set 3 times on both sides of the blanket. It ends with single crochet on the last row on both sides.th as Borders:

Extended width on right and left sides as Borders:

R1: Single Crochet (SC) in every SC and DC. Turn.

R2: SC in every SC. Turn.

R3: DC in every SC. Turn.

R4: SC in every DC. Turn.

Repeat R2 – R4 2 more times.

Product Specifications:

Defining Dimensions:-

  • Length: 52″
  • Width: 40″

Optional Alterations:-

  • The sizes can be changed based on your need.
  • The edging can be made of Single Crochet (SC), Crab Stitch, Slip Stitch, Herringbone Half Double Crochet (HHDC).
  • Instead of regular yarn, fur yarn will bring out a pop to the border.
  • Instead of going for a different colour for the border, use the base colours around.
    • The border shouldn’t be too broad to pop out. The purpose should be to give a clean edge.
  • You can add pom-pom or tassels (matching the colour with the edging or the base colour) at the 4 corners. Link to make pom-pom and tassels.
  • Avoid the border and just add tassels/pompom made of a mixture of the base colours. Or for each corner use on
  • You can attach flowers, beads, appliques or a bow made of crochet, plastic, suede leather, fabric etc to make it more interesting.

Remember: do not over accessorise it. This hides the beauty of the pattern itself. Believe in elegance simplicity!!

  • The whole blanket can be made with one single colour yarn to soothe the interior.
  • For the stitches or pattern to be visible clearly, choose lighter shades of yarn.
  • Instead of going for a different colour for the border, use the base colours around.
    • The border shouldn’t be too broad to pop out. The purpose should be to give a clean edge.

Materials:

  1. Yarn:Lion Brand Vanna Choice – Taupe MistLion Brand Vanna Choice – Pearl Mist
    • Note: you can play around with different branded yarns as far as they give the synchronous flow of the pattern using a constant crochet hook.
    • You can either go for the yarns with the same recommended crochet hook OR decide the yarn and change the crochet hooks along with the tightness on the crochet stitches as you go ahead with the pattern.
    • You can change the pattern to get the continuous flow.
