Winter/Fall Seasoned Black Crochet Reversible Ribbed Beanie Free Pattern for any adult man -Knot My Designs

Reversible Ribbed Beanie

After focusing on women’s hat, beret, beanie etc; I decided to make few beanies for men too. The number of popular men’s hat is very less than compared to that of women. They have mostly caps and beanies. There are certain hats like Bloater, Bowler, Fedora or Panama which are more popular among all fashion styles. If we consider winter accessories then beanies are the most popular headwear for men and children.

Although they are deprived of different varieties of head accessories, they do not understand the pain we go through in finding the perfect piece for ourselves from the million options available.

When I decided to make a winter accessory for male customer, I do not have to struggle to finalise the design.

Process:

I found this pattern on Ravelry. The pattern is easy to follow and could be made in different colours. This hat is 9.5″ in height with 23″ circumference.

Perfectly suitable for any adult man who prefers a professional yet stylish look. This black male accessory (beanie/hat) aims at providing that basic necessity. The best part of this beanie is that it can be worn inside out too. With seamless finishing, it can be worn in any style without the fear of dressing up incorrectly.

Thus I named this crochet beanie as Reversible Ribbed Beanie.

Pattern:-

1: Using a magic circle, Ch 2, Double crochet(DC) 12 times. Join at the 1st DC. Total 12 DC.

2: Ch 1, (SC, FPDC) in each DC. Join at the 1st SC. Total 12 SC, 12 FPDC.

3: Ch 1, SC in 1st SC, 2 FPDC in next FPDC, SC in SC. Continue and join at the 1st SC. Total 12 SC, 24 FPDC.

4: Ch 1, SC in 1st SC, (FPDC,SC) in next FPDC, FPDC in FPDC, SC in SC. Continue and join at the 1st SC. Total 24 SC, 24 FPDC.

5: Ch 1, SC in 1st SC, 2 FPDC in next FPDC, (SC in SC, FPDC in FPDC) x 3, SC in SC. Continue and join at the 1st SC. Total 24 SC, 30 FPDC.

6: Ch 1, SC in 1st SC, (FPDC,SC) in next FPDC, (FPDC in FPDC, SC in SC) x 3, SC in SC. Continue and join at the 1st SC. Total 30 SC, 30 FPDC.

Repeat 5-6 to increase the count by 12.

I repeated (5-6) 2 times to get a total of 84 stitches of SC, FPDC alternatively.

Next Row: Ch 1, SC in 1st SC, FPDC in FPDC, SC in SC. Continue and join at the 1st SC. Total last row count.

Repeat Next Row till you reach the height of the hat to 9″-10″.

Caution Section:-

  • The thickness and elasticity of the yarn and the chosen crochet hook determines the Lacey effects.
  • Also, your technique impacts the smoothness or finished look. Everyone has different technique ranging from tight stitching style to medium to loose stitching styles.
  • Depending on points 1-2, your number of counts for the ribbed band and Twist layering will differ.
  • Measuring the circumference and height of the hat to avoid surprises and rework.
  • FPDC usually require either loose stitch technique or bigger crochet hook to maintain the fineness and seamless flow throughout the hat.

Product Specifications:

Defining Dimensions:-

  • Height for an adult man hat: 9.5″
  • Circumference: 23″

The sizes could be altered based on the count of the stitches for the rows.

Optional Alterations:-

  • For edging, you can use fur, Crab Stitch, Herringbone Half Double Crochet (HHDC) or Slip Stitch of same or contrasting colours.
  • One line of contrast colour edging – White, Creme, Maroon, lighter shades of blue, lime, yellow.
  • You can change colours every 2-6 rows to form a striped pattern (when you start increasing the rest of the height).
  • This beanie is straight ribbed beanie. To make a spiral shape, instead of [*(FPDC, SC) in next FPDC, FPDC in FPDC, SC in SC*] use [*FPDC in FPDC, (SC, FPDC) in FPDC, SC in SC*]
  • You can increase the base diameter to give a more slouchy feel. Also, increase the height of the beanie.
  • You can increase the Brim by more than 1 row to define a brim.

Remember: do not over accessorise it. This hides the beauty of the pattern itself. Believe in elegance simplicity!!
