Winter / Fall Seasoned Crochet Autumn Lapghan / Throw / Blanket Free Pattern - Home Decor - Knot My Designs

Autumn Lapghan

Lapghan is abbreviated form of Lap Afghan. We can call it Throw, Blanket, Afghan etc. I prepared this Autumn Lap Afghan for my home.

My sister was visiting with her family and I was thinking of a throw or baby blanket for my nephew. Moreover, this throw would come to use during those long nights of conversations and tv binging too.

Excited with the purpose of the product, I started looking for patterns online, but the umpteen options further confused me.

I had this stack of yarn in the corner with no future use. I already used the colours while making beanies or placemats. The leftovers weren’t enough for any scarves or blanket.

Then, it struck me to make rows of different colours. This colour set is randomly decided. Unfortunately, these yarns were in majority than other colours. I picked up these colours as they were exactly 2-3 hanks per shade.
I played around with the colour combinations after shuffling them for hours till I landed on this sequence.

I received a lot of compliments for this unique colour palette. It is a unisex blanket, suitable for binge time.

Process:

After a long search, I selected the Ripple Pattern, that I found on Vintage Ripple Fan Pattern. Marinke has provided easy guidelines with pictures at each step in her A Creative Being Blog. Also, there is a Symbolic pattern diagram in the end.

Remember: use thin yarn of 2ply and small crochet hook of 4mm or less to avoid the huge gaps of the vintage fan.

This beautiful Lap Afghan is made of scraps of yarn left out in my Stash Basket. Surprised?! I know.

Note: the only problem I found in this pattern is the gaps. Your toes and fingers might stick out if you try to get too cosy inside this. Try to use a smaller version of the crochet hook or sew a layer of fabric on the other side to give you the warmth and style.

Product Specifications:

Dimensions:-

  • Length: 60″
  • Width: 41″

Alterations:-

  • The sizes can be changed based on your requirement.
  • The edging can be made of Single Crochet (SC), Crab Stitch, Slip Stitch, Herringbone Half Double Crochet (HHDC).
  • Instead of regular yarn, fur yarn will bring out a pop to the border.
  • Instead of going for a different colour for the border, use both the base colours around for alternate rows.
    • The border shouldn’t be too broad to pop out. The purpose should be to provide a clean edge.
  • You can add pom-pom or tassels (matching the colour with the edging or the base colour) at the 4 corners. Link to make pom-pom and tassels.
  • Avoid the border and just add tassels/pompoms made of a mixture of the base colours.
    • You can make one tassel of one base colour and sew that one base coloured tassel in one corner. Make 4 of them to complete the design.
  • You can attach flowers, beads, appliques or a bow made of crochet, plastic, suede leather, fabric etc to make it more interesting.

Remember: do not over accessorise it. This hides the beauty of the pattern itself. Believe in elegance simplicity!!
