Winter/Fall Seasoned Crochet Two Faced Black Scarf for everyone - kNot mY deSigns

Two Faced Black Scarf

Talking about art, everyone is familiar with the name Picasso. Even though I do not have in-depth knowledge of his work, I know that he has created several masterpieces. La Vie (1903), The Old Guitarist (1903), Portrait of Gertrude Stein (1905), Les Demoiselles d’Avignon (1907), Guernica (1937) are few of his best works depicting a period of time of his life.

These periods are categorized as

  • The Blue Period (1901–1904),
  • The Rose Period (1904–1906),
  • African Influenced (1907–1909),
  • Cubism (1909–1912),
  • Classicism, Surrealism, and Sculpture (1910-1920)

where he focused on one theme.

One of his painting that grabbed my attention was DEUX PERSONNAGES (LA LECTURE), 1934 which means “Two Characters”. The portrayal of two women reading was one of the most recognizable works of art in the 20th century. Marie-Thérèse Walter, his beloved mistress, was the inspiration behind most of his creations during the early 1930s; a ‘Marie-Thérèse period’.

Inspired by the name Two Characters, I named this black scarf as a Two Faced Black Scarf. It has two correct sides meaning you can wear it from both the sides as a scarf or as a cowl. There is no right or the wrong side of this scarf. It is a unisex scarf that would go along with any winter jacket!

PS Credit: Sothebys – Impressionist Modern Art EveningPablo Picasso.OrgWikipedia – Pablo_Picasso.

Process:

The scarf is worked horizontally.

Chain (CH) multiples of 2.

Note: I created 320 chains +1. single crochet one row.

R1: 2 single crochet (SC) in the 2nd CH from the hook, *skip next CH, 2 SC in next CH; rep from * across, turn.

R2: CH 2, skip first SC, 2 SC in next SC, * skip next SC, 2 SC in next SC; rep from * across turn.

Rep R2 for the pattern.

Finishing: single crochet one row.

Measurement: 82″ X 6.75″.

Caution Section:-

  1. Since the pattern is very simple, there aren’t many precautions we need to worry about except the initial chain count based on the yarn thickness.
  2. The initial count stitch will alter based on the yarn selected and the size of the scarf you are looking for. For e.g. I made 320 chains to get 82″ length.

Product Specifications:

Defining Dimensions:-

  • Length: 82″
  • Width: 6.75″.

Optional Alterations:-

  • If you are treating it as a female scarf then-
  • Add a line of tassels to the ends of both sides along the width. 4 Tassels at the corners will also work. You can reduce the size of the scarf as tassels will add another 10″.
  • Attach pom-poms to each of the corners.
  • The tassels or pompoms colour should be of the base colour or any contrast colour. Shades of white, golden, silver, brown, creme, mustard will add the beauty.
  • Pom-poms and tassels can be of wool, faux fur, ribbons, plastic, resin etc. Link to make pom-pom and tassels.
  • The long length edging, you can have a Crab Stitch, Single Crochet, Slip Stitch.

Remember: do not over accessorize it. This hides the beauty of the pattern itself. Believe in elegance simplicity!!

Fall/Winter Seasoned Crochet Men's Wavy Scarf Free Pattern - Knot My Designs

Men’s Wavy Scarf

Waves are known to transfer energy from one source to another. In design, we concentrate on the form and shape that a wave creates rather than capturing the vibration or calculating the energy transfer. We capture and fabricate different wave patterns, and try to implement them while innovating new designs.

As already mentioned in Men’s Mesh Scarf, the challenge to create a handsome accessory for the elder age group is to choose the right colour and pattern. I adopted the identical flow of the wave pattern into my product because the flow defines grace as well as sturdiness.

This scarf could be used with Men’s Ash-Lead Beanie to form a beanie-scarf set for men.

Process:

Working vertically, the scarf is worked on back loops throughout. The length of the scarf is 6ft i.e. 72″. The width is 8-10″ considering the standard male scarf dimensions.

I decided to settle on Moogly’s – Summer Wave Placemats and Coasters to create the wavy scarf. The site provides the detailed step by step procedure. To create this lengthy scarf, you need 15 +1 chain counts to create a wave.

I have multiplied 15×20 +1 i.e. 301 chains to have 70+” length of the scarf.

Remember the thickness of the yarn, the selected crochet hook and your style ( loose stitch, medium tight stitch, tight stitch) specifies the length of the product.

Product Specifications:

Defining Dimensions:-

  • Length: 70+”
  • Width: 8-10″.

Optional Alterations:-

  • If you are using this as a female scarf then-

Winter/Fall Seasoned Crochet Men's Mesh Scarf Free Pattern - Knot My Designs

Men’s Mesh Scarf

Color, patterns, texture and overall combination in clothes can really bring a lot of difference to a person, either making him look more attractive or dull. What more, it can enhance your features and make you look younger or look stout and even old. The challenge is not to drift oneself by the current of fashion, but to design for your audience that ranges from a younger to an older generation. Shades of grey, brown, blue, green and white, and black are well-proven colours that go well with men across all ages.

The customer choice of colours is always considered first. But what if you are stuck with pastel shades in your palette? How can you bring freshness in the product? That’s when the texture of the yarn and the pattern defines the novelty of your product. I brought this shiny soft brown yarn and started my search for a particular stitch that will fulfil my vision. A combination of mud brown pastel shade textured yarn, and beautiful mesh pattern brings novelty to this crochet men’s Mesh Scarf from KnotMyDesigns.

Process:

In my early days of crocheting, I used to follow YouTube videos to learn the pattern before I got comfortable with written instructions. Meladora’s Creation has been my favourite then and now. When I was looking for a scarf pattern which has a closer stitch and does not represent simple straight single crochet or double crochet stitches, I stumbled upon Mens MeshMen’scarf by Meladora’s Creation. It is very easy to follow.

Winter/Fall Seasoned Crochet Irregular Striped Scarf Free Pattern for an adult man - Knot My Designs

Irregular Striped Scarf

I wanted to make a Scarf and a Hat set, suitable for an adult man, and match with Knit Style Beanie. It could also be complemented with Men’s Suede jacket that the customer usually wears to the office. The idea to make a striped style, struck me when I was browsing online for scarves in the colour combination of Black, Grey and White colour. This colour combination makes any wearable stylish while providing a professional look too.

Style Tip: Whenever you are gifting or making any clothing accessory to a male client, always use the safe colour approach for men. Black, grey, white, blue, green, brown, and beige/nude colours are safe colours for men.

Process:

The pattern is simple. It is worked on horizontally. Starting with the chain of 320 or above, you can achieve the length of the 65″ or more.

Half Double Crochet (HDC) stitch on every row using the Back loop only. To get the irregularity in the colour sequence, select every row with the different colour (grey, white, black). No two simultaneous rows have the same colour. At the end, sew the leftover yarn that is laying around.

To hide the inconsistency, you can slip stitch or single crochet with black yarn.

For additional styling, you can add tassels at the end of both sides.

Product Specifications:

Defining Dimensions:-

  • Length: 65+”
  • Width: 6″.

Optional Alterations:-

Winter/Fall Seasoned Crochet Black Basketweave Scarf Free Pattern for an adult man - Knot My Designs

Black Basketweave Scarf

After making Basketweave Black Beanie, I started making a scarf for my client. This was my first attempt to make a pair or combination of Hat-Scarf. There are certain defined dimensions of the scarf for male than for female. In order to make a winter scarf for male, which they can carry out on perfectly with professional attire, you have to make sure that the scarf size is not too small or too big. It should look classy, subtle and yet adorable.

Process:

For an average sized man (i.e.5.7- 5.10), the scarf size is 60″-70″ in length and 6″-7″ in width. My scarf measures 66″ x 7″.

Once you are familiar with Front Post Double Crochet (FPDC) and Back Post Double Crochet (BPDC) stitches, basket weave pattern is very simple to make. The pattern is a series of FPDC and BPDC.

I was following the Crochet Geek for basket-weave beanie and decided to continue with the same of her instructions regarding the Basketweave Black Scarf too. The guide required creating a bigger weave pattern with starting stitch of every row following a sequence of FPDC-BPDC-FPDC- FPDC, and BPDC-FPDC-BPDC-BPDC. Since I was looking for a smaller pattern, I decided to follow Meladoras Creations – Basketweave Scarf, in which every row started with FPDC and ended with FPDC.

I had made 40 chains from four-ply yarn and used 5.5 mm crochet hook to get 7″ of width. I continued with this process till the scarf length was 66″.  This scarf consumed six yarn balls, each weighing 50 gms.

Body:-

R1: Chain 41. Double Crochet (DC) 4th chain from the hook. DC till the end. turn.

R2: DC,*4 FPDC, 4 BPDC *; repeat *-* ending with DC. Turn.

R3: DC, *4 BPDC on 4 FPDC, 4 FPDC on 4 BPDC*; repeat *-* ending with DC. Turn.

R4: DC, *4 BPDC on 4 BPDC, 4 FPDC on 4 FPDC*; repeat *-* ending with DC. Turn.

R5: DC, *4 FPDC on 4 BPDC, 4 BPDC on 4 FPDC*; repeat *-* ending with DC. Turn.

R6: DC, *4 FPDC on 4 FPDC, 4 BPDC on 4 BPDC*; repeat *-* ending with DC. Turn.

Repeat from R3-R6 until you reach the desired length.

Caution Section:-

  • Multiples of 8. 4 FPDC and 4BPDC.
  • FPDC and BPDC required a bigger crochet hook or loose stitching technique to get a flowy basketweave pattern.
  • Depending on the texture of the yarn, you can either choose a larger crochet hook other than recommended one or you can loosely stitch FPDC and BPDC.
  • For edging the last row, you can change the crochet hook to a smaller size to give a tighter set.

Product Specifications:

Defining Dimensions:-

  • Length: 66″
  • Width: 7″.

Optional Alterations:-

  • If you are thinking it as a female scarf then-
  • Add a line of tassels to the ends of both sides along the width. 4 Tassels at the corners will also work. You can reduce the size of the scarf as tassels will add another 10″.
  • Attach pom-poms to each of the corners.
