Winter/Fall/Spring Seasoned Crochet Men's Slouch Beanie Free Pattern - Knot My Designs

Men’s Slouch Beanie

Whenever we talk about fashion, it is known that the conversation would revolve around female couture. But masculine trends aren’t behind. Lately, fashion and apparel design have evolved to introduce a third category of attire that could be worn by both genders.

Yes, we are talking about the Unisex range, which includes Trousers, tuxedo, pants, shirts and more. The unisex clothing has become a common selection for both men and women.

In Fashion, Gender Lines Are Blurring by New York Times mentions the thoughts of Ken Downing. The fashion director of Neiman Marcus says “What we see now, he said, “is a seismic shift in fashion, a widening acceptance of a style with no boundaries, one that reflects the way young people dress.”

Thinking on the similar lines, I decided to make slouch beanie, which is primarily for men but is unisex too. Though these are specific in gender, the sober yarn colours are suitable for both an adult man and an adult woman. And of course, a lot depends on the way you style it.

Presenting crochet beanie Black and Blue from Knot My Designs to take away the winter blues and stay warm and stylish this season.

Process:

These are basic simple slouch beanies. The process is very easy. For Black Slouch Beanie, instead of providing additional edge/ brim of FDPC and BPDC; I decided to make one basic Double Crochet Stitch(DC) black slouch beanie. For the other Blue Slouch Beanie, I created an edge of Back Loop Single Crochet Stitch (BLOSC) for about 1″.

The Beanie circumference is 22″-24″ for large man head size. You can modify as per woman’s head size of 20″-22″. The beanie height range between 12″-14″, to give a deeper slouchy look.

For detailed basic beanie pattern: please check out: Basic Black Beanie Pattern.

Caution Section:-

  1. To create the slouch, increase the height of the beanie to more than 10″ but do not exceed 13″-14″.
  2. The thickness and elasticity of the yarn vary the diameter of the base.
  3. The crochet hook recommended vs the crochet hook used defines the design.
  4. For slouchy or loose beanie, the crochet hook should be larger than the recommended.
  5. Concentrate on the base diameter of the beanie and increase or decrease the rows. Generally, for any adult beanie 60-84, DC is suitable.
  6. The total number of stitches per row is different for SC, HDC, DC etc.
  7. Keep measuring the circumference and the height to avoid frogging or rework.

Product Specifications:

Defining Dimensions:-

  • Height for an adult man hat: 12″ – 14″
  • Circumference: 23″-24″

The sizes could be altered based on the count of the stitches for the rows.

[Note: The height of the hat is measured from the closed tip to the bottom when the hat is laid flat. ]

Optional Alterations:-

  • You can increase the base diameter to give a more slouchy feel. Also, increase the height of the beanie.
  • This is a Unisex beanie. So in case you are using it as a female beanie, you can add pom-pom matching the colour with the edging or the base colour. There are different ways to create pom-pom.
  • You can attach flowers, beads or a bow made of crochet, plastic, suede leather etc to give cuteness to the hat.
  • You can put fur edging to give a different touch.
  • For men, keep it simple. The colour selection should catch the eye.

Remember: do not over accessorize it. This hides the beauty of the pattern itself. Believe in elegance simplicity!!

Unisex Crochet Santa Claus's Hat Free Pattern - kNot mY deSigns

Santa Claus’s Hat

Men have a defined sense of fashion and it stays with them throughout and rarely changes. No external factor including women can change this. It could be almost a struggle to bring change in their fashion and make them try out something new. This phenomenon, however, changes in the case of technology. In fact, men would conform to latest updates and gadgets in the market.

Women, on the other hand, embellish their clothing with a lot of addendums like a pom-pom, ruffles, tassels, frills, lace, ribbons, which is seemingly absent in men’s clothing. And I can not disagree further. Any accessory would be a contrast to their masculinity and feel lesser manly.  However, there is an exception to this when it comes to the pompom on the red and white Santa Claus Hat. After all, it’s Christmas Eve!; the festive season, when everyone is anxiously waiting for gifts. Kids are lingering around for Santa to come and hand over their presents, which they have wished for! While everyone is being impish wearing Santa Hat, Elf hat, elf shoes and reindeer horns, men in the family have to join too.

Merry Christmas Everyone! HO! HO! HO!

Process:

The procedure contains Double Crochet (DC), Half Double Crochet (HDC) and a big pom-pom in 3 sections.

  1. Body
  2. Brim
  3. Pompom

Body:-

R1: Started with a magic circle, and 8 Double Crochet stitches (DC).Total 8 DC.

R2: Instead of increasing 2 DC on every DC in next row, I increased by 4 stitches in the 2nd row. *2 DC in next DC, DC in next DC*; repeat *-*. Total 12 DC.

R3: Repeat the row. Total 12 DC.

R4: *2 DC in next DC, DC in next 2 DC*; repeat *-*. The rows are increased by 4. Total 16 DC.

R5: Repeat R4. Total

R6: *2 DC in next DC, DC in next 3 DC*; repeat *-*. The rows are increased by 4. Total 20 DC.

R7: Repeat R6. Total

R8: *2 DC in next DC, DC in next 4 DC*; repeat *-*. The rows are increased by 4. Total 24 DC.

R9: *2 DC in next DC, DC in next 5 DC*; repeat *-*. The rows are increased by 4. Total 28 DC.

R10: *2 DC in next DC, DC in next 6 DC*; repeat *-*. The rows are increased by 4. Total 32 DC.

Continue increasing every row by 4 till your hat circumference is 22-23. I have increased gradually till 84 DC.

Note: The total counts should be greater than 60 for an adult hat. It depends on the yarn, chosen crochet hook and your strength applied in each stitch.

R11: Continued 84DC for 8 more rows.

Brim:-

R1: Changed the yarn to white and start creating the brim by using Half Double Crochet (HDC) in each DC.

R2: Continue it till the brim length is 2-3″ i.e. 8-11 HDC.

Finishing: Cut the yarns and sew all the stranded yarns.

Diff Brim Style: Instead of Single Crochet (SC) or HDC, you can go for alternate Front Post Double Crochet (FPDC), Back Post Double Crochet (BPDC) to create a ribbed brim. No edging.

Pom-Pom:-

Create a big pompom and attach to the starting row.

Product Specifications:

Defining Dimensions:-

  • Height for an adult man hat: 14″
  • Circumference: 23″-24″

The sizes could be altered based on the count of the stitches for the rows.

Optional Alterations:-

  • For edging, you can use white fur, Crab Stitch or Slip Stitch.
  • The complete Santa hat can be made using DC with the last row of edging.
  • Instead of white yarn, you can use white fur yarn to create the brim.
  • You can insert the Santa Belt in the intersection of red and white yarn.
    • For that reduce the Red yarn rows by 4 and DC across using black yarn. Total 84 Black Yarn DC.
    • Create Santa Belt Buckle and stitch it to the hat.

Remember: do not over accessorise it. This hides the beauty of the pattern itself. Believe in elegance simplicity!!

Crochet Gramp's Football Theme Beanie free pattern for winter/fall season - Knot My Designs

Gramp’s Football Theme Beanie

Who says that themed beanies or scarves are only made for children and teens? When you are a grandfather or a grandmother, you have every right to wear themed based accessories along with your grandsons and granddaughters. I imagined the same when I started with the idea of making an American Football Theme beanie for grandpa. Following the Football theme, I had already created a Toddler Football Flap Beanie and Baby Football Cocoon. Thus, making a Football beanie for grandpa was an easy decision. They can wear during football season or at Halloween or Thanksgiving! All you need is a good family photo capturing the moments and embracing it forever.

Process:

It is simple Double Crochet stitch (DC) beanie with rows of white to create American Football theme. I have not added the stitches so that it doesn’t look extremely kiddish for grandpa. It can be easily worn on many occasions too. They can wear it anytime they want. The height of the beanie is 9.5″ and the hat circumference is 22-23″. It can be carried as slouch beanie depending on the person’s head size.

Body:-

R1: Started with a magic circle, and 12 Double Crochet stitches (DC), join at the beginning. Total 12 DC.

R2: Ch 2, *2 DC in each DC*; repeat *-*, join at the beginning. Total 24 DC.

R3: Ch 2, *2 DC in next DC, DC in next DC*; repeat *-*, join at the beginning. Total 36 DC.

R4: Ch 2, *2 DC in next DC, DC in next 2 DC*; repeat *-*, join at the beginning. Total 48 DC.

R5: Ch 2, *2 DC in next DC, DC in next 3 DC*; repeat *-*, join at the beginning. Total 60 DC.

Note: The total counts should be greater than 60 for an adult hat. It depends on the yarn, chosen crochet hook and your strength applied in each stitch.

R6: Ch 2, *2 DC in next DC, DC in next 4 DC*; repeat *-*, join at the beginning. Total 72 DC.

R7: DC in each DC, join at the beginning. Total 72 DC.

R8-R9: Change to white colour. Repeat R7.

R10-R15: Change to the base colour. Repeat R7.

R16-R17: Change to white colour. Repeat R7.

R18: Change to the base colour. Repeat R7.

Caution Section:-

  • Calculation of the position of the white bands is important.
  • It will be easy if the basics of the hat’s height are defined. For e.g. if the total height of the hat is 9″ and white band is about 1″ thick then the placement of the white band should be after 3″  and 8″ approx.
  • Since the number of rows alters due to different yarn sizes and crochet hooks, it is best to total up the number of rows required to make 1″. Based on this calculation, the position of the white band can be set.
  • The positioning of the white bands and the football stitch seam along with the knowledge of the gauge will reduce the rework.

Product Specifications:

Defining Dimensions:-

  • Height for an adult man hat: 9.5″
  • Circumference: 22″-23″

The sizes could be altered based on the count of the stitches for the rows.

Optional Alterations:-

  • For edging, you can use base colour fur, Crab Stitch or Slip Stitch or Herringbone Half Double Crochet(HHDC).
  • You can add the Football stitching in between the hat with white yarn. I avoided the stitch to the hat for multi-occasion.

Remember: do not over accessorise it. This hides the beauty of the pattern itself. Believe in elegance simplicity!!

Crochet Men's Ash-Lead Beanie Free Pattern for winter - Knot My Designs

Men’s Ash-Lead Beanie

As already mentioned in men’s mesh scarf,  the real challenge for making products for elder people is the choice of colour and usage of the item. Close knit items are always preferred when making a winter wear for men.

With safe colours as shades of grey, brown, blue, and green, and black already in my mind, I chose slate or ash colour (i.e. shade of grey) for making a beanie. Since the colour is rich, the pattern can be simple to maintain the balance. It can also be worn as a beanie-scarf set. The men’s Wavy Scarf (coming in next post) and men’s Ash-Lead Beanie can be paired together. Though they represent different shades of grey, it can still be complimented with a white-colored sweater. The richness of the colour makes it suitable for a middle-aged adult man too.

Process:

The beanie is the basic beanie with different gauge and thickness of wool. Though the pattern is simple double crochet stitched beanie, the thickness of the wool gives a different look.
The beanie height is 9.5″ and hat circumference is 23-24″. It gives a slouchy effect but that depends on the size of the head of the customer.

Note: The total counts should be greater than 60 for any adult hat.

R8-R13: Repeat R7.

R14: Single Crochet (SC) in each DC for edging.

Product Specifications:

Defining Dimensions:-

  • Height for an adult man hat: 9.5″
  • Circumference: 23″-24″

The sizes could be altered based on the count of the stitches for the rows.

Optional Alterations:-

  • For edging, you can use fur, Crab Stitch, Herringbone Half Double Crochet (HHDC) or Slip Stitch of same or contrasting colours.
  • One line of contrast colour edging – White, Creme, Maroon, lighter shades of blue, lime, yellow.
  • You can increase the base diameter to give a more slouchy feel. Also, increase the height of the beanie.
  • You can increase the Brim by more than 1 row to define a brim.

Remember: do not over accessorise it. This hides the beauty of the pattern itself. Believe in elegance simplicity!!

Winter/Fall Seasoned Black-Grey Crochet Willow Beanie Free Pattern for an adult man - Knot My Designs

Willow Beanie

Can you impress anyone? Of course, you can. But how easy it is to impress your husband (your best critique) when it is about fashion. Well, I passed that test very well.

My hubby wanted a beanie, but not just any beanie. He was very particular that it has to be interesting yet not tacky; carried a matured look yet not make him look older than he really is. I said done! (with a confident smile). Because I knew it was not difficult, but not at all an easy task too. In a few words, he was asking me to blend the latest in fashion with subtlety for him.

Going by the safe colours approach, I decided to use Black yarn. I had a lot of other questions, should I use the different colour as stripes in between? Should I maintain only one base colour and choose a creative pattern? Most importantly, the beanie shouldn’t lose the main purpose i.e. protect the head and ear from cold breeze. I started putting my thoughts together trying to visualise what it would look like. After many unsuccessful attempts, I thought of starting with one pattern.

But I still had a lot of other questions. Should I use a different colour as few stripes in between; or should I maintain only one base colour and choose a creative pattern? Most importantly, the beanie shouldn’t lose the main purpose i.e. protect the head and ear from cold breeze.

I liked Amy Depew – The Laughing Willow – Deeply Textured Hat pattern. It gives a willow effect to the hat. I chose to combine grey colour yarn in between to give an active look. The pattern follows a series of Double Crochet (DC) for creating the base and then following the alternate Front Post Treble Crochet (FPTRC) and Double Crochet (DC). I wanted to have a complete willow flow from the beginning. Thus, I started creating alternative sequential FPTRC and DC from the starting.

And guess what, he really loved the willow beanie, just the way he wanted.

Process:

Starting with Magic Circle, DC 12 times and Join with Slip Stitch (SL ST).

R1: Ch 2, (DC, FPTRC) in each DC, join on top with SL ST -> 12 DC, 12 FPTRC.

R2: ch 2, *(FPTRC, FPTRC,) in DC, DC in FPTRC*, repeat *-*, join on the top with SL ST -> 24 FPTRC, 12 DC.

R3: ch 2, *(DC, FPTRC) on FPTRC, DC on FPTRC, FPTRC on DC*, repeat *-*, join on the top with SL ST -> 24 DC, 24 FPTRC.

R4: ch 2, *2 FPTRC on DC, DC on next FPTRC, (FPTRC on DC, DC on next FPTRC)3 times*, repeat *-*, join on the top with SL ST -> 24 DC, 30 FPTRC.

R5: ch 2, *(DC, FPTRC) on FPTRC, FPTRC on DC, (DC on FPTRC, FPTRC on DC) 3 times*, repeat *-*, join to the top with SL ST -> 30 DC, 30 FPTRC.

R6: ch 2, *2 FPTRC on DC, DC on next FPTRC, (FPTRC on DC, DC on next FPTRC)4 times*, repeat *-*, join on the top with SL ST -> 30 DC, 36 FPTRC.

R7: ch 2, *(DC, FPTRC) on FPTRC, FPTRC on DC, (DC on FPTRC, FPTRC on DC) 4 times*, repeat *-*, join to the top with SL ST -> 36 DC, 36 FPTRC.

R8: ch 2, *FPTRC on DC, DC on FPTRC*, repeat *-*, join to the top with SL ST -> 36 DC, 36 FPTRC.

R9: ch 2, *DC on FPTRC, FPTRC on DC*, repeat *-*, join to the top with SL ST -> 36 DC, 36 FPTRC.

Repeat R8 and R9 with the black yarn till you reach row 12.

Change the yarn to Gray.Repeat R9 and R8. [Check the link to change the yarn ->Happy Berry Crochet – Joining the round with new colour]

Change the yarn to Black. Repeat R9 and R8.

Change the yarn to Gray. Repeat R9 and R8.

Change the yarn to Black. Repeat R9.

  • You can increase the base diameter to give a more slouchy feel. Also, increase the height of the beanie.

Winter/Fall Seasoned Crochet Basic Black Beanie Free Pattern for any adult - Knot My Designs

Basic Black Beanie

We all have a favourite colour that complements us the most and we love to wear it. Blue is what I love. But one particular colour that never goes wrong and could be found in everyone’s wardrobe is Black. If you look around then you will notice that every 2nd or 4th person is sporting that colour as an accessory or as an apparel. Black is the saver for anyone that needs a last-minute decision on winter outfit for any occasion. I felt the same when five customers reached out to me requesting for a black beanie.

What more can I think that trying out the basic black beanie for them but with a twist? Ah, there’s nothing more interesting than extending the limits of being basic.

Process:

For me, this was a beginner’s attempt to learn and to make a basic beanie. I thought of making a unisex beanie suitable for all ages and group. I learned from Happy Berry Crochet – Simple Beanie.

Base:-

Starting with 12 Double crochet (DC) with a magic circle, I continued increasing 12 counts on every row till I reach row 6 to get a total count of 72 DC based on the circumference required for an adult woman’s hat. I continued increasing the beanie’s length up to 9″ based on the customer gender and age.

R1: Start with a magic circle, CH 2 and 12 DC; join with slip stitch (SL ST) at the 1st DC. Total 12 DC.

R2: Ch 2, *2DC in every DC; repeat *-*; join with SL ST in the 1st DC. Total 24 DC.

R3: Ch 2, *2DC, DC; repeat *-*; join with SL ST in the 1st DC. Total 36 DC.

R4: Ch 2, *2DC, DC, DC; repeat *-*; join with SL ST in the 1st DC. Total 48 DC.

R5: Ch 2, *2DC, DC, DC, DC; repeat *-*; join with SL ST in the 1st DC. Total 60 DC.

R6: Ch 2, *2DC, DC, DC, DC, DC; repeat *-*; join with SL ST in the 1st DC. Total 72 DC.

[check the diameter of the base. It should be 6 – 6.5cm. if not then increase the row and the total DC count.]

R7: Ch 2, DC in every DC; join with SL ST in the 1st DC. Total 72 DC.

R8 and above: Repeat R7 to get the height of the hat 9.5″-10″.

For an adult man’s hat, I continued increasing 12 counts on every row till I reach row 6/7 to get a total count of 72/84 DC. The height of the hat is 9.5″ based on the customer gender and age.

Edging:-

And lastly, added a row of single crochet stitch using brown wool to give a defined edging.

Caution Section:-

  1. The thickness and elasticity of the yarn vary the diameter of the base.
  2. The crochet hook recommended vs the crochet hook used defines the design.
  3. for the slouchy or loose beanie, the crochet hook should be larger than the recommended.
  4. Concentrate on the base diameter of the beanie and increase or decrease the rows. Generally, for any adult beanie 60-84, DC is suitable.
  5. The total number of stitches per row is different for SC, HDC, DC etc.

Product Specifications:

Defining Dimensions:-

  • Height for an adult woman’s hat: 9″
  • Circumference for an adult woman’s hat: 20″-22″
  • Height for an adult man’s hat: 9.5″
  • Circumference for an adult man’s hat: 22″-24″

The sizes can be altered based on the count of the stitches for the rows.

Optional Alterations:-

  • You can increase the base diameter to give a more slouchy feel. Also, increase the height of the beanie.
  • You can add pom-pom matching the colour with the edging or the base colour. Link to make a pom-pom.
  • You can attach flowers, beads or a bow made of crochet, plastic, suede leather etc to give a more feminine touch.

Remember: do not over accessorise it. This hides the beauty of the pattern itself. Believe in elegance simplicity!!

Winter/Fall Seasoned Crochet Knit Style Beanie Free Pattern for an adult man - Knot My Designs

Knit Style Beanie

As said before, when you work in men’s fashion – Black, Blue, White, Green, and Gray are your preferable SAFE COLORS. Any combination of these goes well too. While maroon, mustard, olive are new shades liked by men too; I still prefer using the safe-colour combinations for any male audience.

The customer was looking for a stylish beanie for himself. So, I combined Black, White and Gray colours to make the beanie. The colours resembled as that of Irregular Striped Scarf. Thus you can carry this Knit Style Beanie with the Irregular Striped Scarf as Hat-Scarf combo set.

Process:

For a stylish beanie, I was searching for a smart design. Knitting has always fascinated me. Though it is not that difficult to learn, my inclination towards crochet pulled me look for something that can give you Knit look style.

The knit stitch look could be achieved by Half Double Crochet (HDC). The stitch has 3 hidden lines. Usually, we use the First or Back Loop of HDC for most of the patterns, but to create a knit style you need to use the 3rd loop beneath the first and make another HDC stitch. The detailed process is mentioned in My Hobby Is Crochet. Kinga has described it in an elaborate manner.

The Black, grey, white yarn sequence – 8 rows of black, 8 rows of white, 8 rows of grey, 4 rows of black.

Body:-

R1: Started with a magic circle, and 12 Half Double Crochet stitches (HDC), join at the beginning. Total 12 HDC.

R2: Ch 2, *2 HDC in each HDC*; repeat *-*, join at the beginning. Total 24 HDC.

R3: Ch 2, *2 HDC in next HDC, HDC in next HDC*; repeat *-*, join at the beginning. Total 36 HDC.

R4: Ch 2, *2 HDC in next HDC, HDC in next 2 HDC*; repeat *-*, join at the beginning. Total 48 HDC.

R5: Ch 2, *2 HDC in next HDC, HDC in next 3 HDC*; repeat *-*, join at the beginning. Total 60 HDC.

Note: The total counts should be greater than 60 for an adult hat. It depends on the yarn, chosen crochet hook and your strength applied in each stitch.

R6: Ch 2, *2 HDC in next HDC, HDC in next 4 HDC*; repeat *-*, join at the beginning. Total 72 HDC.

R7: HDC in each HDC, join at the beginning. Total 72 HDC.

R8-R27: Repeat R7.

R28: Single Crochet (SC) in each HDC for edging.

  • You can increase the base diameter to give a more slouchy feel. Also, increase the height of the beanie.
  • You can increase the Brim by more than 1 row to define a brim.

Winter / Fall Seasoned Crochet Basketweave Black Beanie Free Pattern for an adult man - kNot mY deSigns

Basketweave Black Beanie

I like the pattern Basketweave. If I could then I’ll probably make every item using Basket-weave pattern. This pattern gives an attractive and interesting flow. So when my customer reached out requesting for a good black beanie, I thought of trying out this Basket-Weave Black Beanie pattern for him. Since his face has an oblong shape (I think that is what it is called), I wanted to give a design that will suit his face giving a fuller look.

Yes, I’m open to making anything for anyone. My aim is trying out every possible item that could be made with crochet. I’m in love with crochet and I want everyone to fall in love with it.

I was inspired by Monk Wolle & Beanies. I loved their approach and the detailing they had provided in either in the video format (youtube) or written format (PDF). The choice of colour combinations and patterns are really unique, smart and appealing for a male accessory.

Process:

I started the pattern after the instruction by Monk, but I increased the counts and rows. I started with 12 double crochet (DC) and increased up to 6 rows, as per the wool and the crochet hook. The head size will need 72 counts to fit the head of an adult man. Also, I was focusing on making 4 Front-post DC stitch, 4 Back-Post DC stitch.

Caution Section:-

  • Multiples of 8. 4 FPDC and 4BPDC.
  • I will suggest that it is better to rework initially while setting up the crown of the head. Typically, the crown diameter for an adult head should be between 6″-6.5″. As this will grow, it’ll be a comfortable fit for an adult head.
  • For edging the last row, you can change the crochet hook to a smaller size to give a tighter set. But then it should depend on the face shape too, or best is to follow the same hook throughout.

In the end, the hat should measure 22″-23″. The wool stretches on prolonged use. so 22″-23″ is good for more fit and better protection from the cold.

Body:-

R1: Started with a magic circle, and 12 Double Crochet stitches (DC), join at the beginning. Total 12 DC.

R2: Ch 2, *2 FPDC each DC*; repeat *-*, join at the beginning. Total 24 FPDC.

R3: Ch 2, *2 FPDC in next FPDC, BPDC in next FPDC*; repeat *-*, join at the beginning. Total 24 FPDC, 12 BPDC.

R4: Ch 2, *2 BPDC in next FPDC, FPDC in next 2 BPDC*; repeat *-*, join at the beginning. Total 24 BPDC, 24 FPDC.

R5: Ch 2, *2 BPDC in next BPDC, BPDC in next BPDC, FPDC in next 2 BPDC*; repeat *-*, join at the beginning. Total 36 BPDC, 24FPDC.

Note: The total counts should be greater than 60 for any adult hat. It depends on the yarn, chosen crochet hook and your strength applied in each stitch.

R6: Ch 2, *2 FPDC in next BPDC, FPDC in next BPDC, BPDC in next BPDC, BPDC in next 2 FPDC*; repeat *-*, join at the beginning. Total 36 FPDC, 36 BPDC.

R7: Ch 2, *FPDC in 4 stitches, BPDC in next 4 stitches*; repeat *-*, join at the beginning. Total 36 FPDC, 36 BPDC.

(This might be confusing a bit. Try to concentrate on repeating the pattern of 4 FPDC and 4BPDC respectively. )

R8: Ch 2, *BPDC in next 4 FPDC, FPDC in next 4 BPDC*; repeat *-*, join at the beginning. Total 36 FPDC, 36 BPDC.

R9: Ch 2, *BPDC in next 4BPDC, FPDC in next 4 FPDC*; repeat *-*, join at the beginning. Total 36 FPDC, 36 BPDC.

R10: Ch 2, *FPDC in next 4BPDC, BPDC in next 4 FPDC*; repeat *-*, join at the beginning. Total 36 FPDC, 36 BPDC.

R11: Ch 2, *FPDC in next 4FPDC, BPDC in next 4 BPDC*; repeat *-*, join at the beginning. Total 36 FPDC, 36 BPDC.

R12: Repeat R8- R11 till you make the best height of the beanie.

From R12 you are concentrating on making (4 FPDC, 4 BPDC ) stitches for 2 rows. Then change the sequence (4 BPDC, 4 FPDC) for next 2 rows. Thus, creating a basketweave pattern.

Product Specifications:

Defining Dimensions:-

  • Height for an adult man hat: 9.5″
  • Circumference: 22″-23″

The sizes could be altered based on the count of the stitches for the rows.

Optional Alterations:-

  • For edging, you can use fur, Crab Stitch, Herringbone Half Double Crochet (HHDC) or Slip Stitch of same or contrasting colours.
  • One line of contrast colour edging – White, Creme, lighter shades of brown, grey.

Crochet Winter/Fall Mesh Blue Shade Beanie Free Pattern for any adult man - Head Accessory - Knot My Designs

Mesh Shade Beanie

It is good to get repeat orders from our customers, it shows that they liked the product and trusted us. And I had the same feeling when this particular customer (who had earlier purchased a beanie) contacted us again for another beanie.

This time, he particularly wanted some customization; which included a men’s beanie with a new pattern but in a shade of blue. I wanted to make a smart beanie which is creative, bright and yet complementing to his age than making him look a lot younger.

I had made a few male beanie and few uni-sex beanies before like the Wave Stitch beanie and the Slouchy beanie.

I started making a fresh one, but following the similar designs, I had tried before. I had almost completed 15 rows, and I felt, it was the same old stuff, with a little tweak rather being a creatively different one. So I undid everything. I was very disappointed and exhausted. I decided to take a break for a couple of days.

The break helped to come up with a new design altogether. This is my own design using Mesh stitch pattern, ribbed pattern and double crochet base as Mesh Shade Beanie.

Process:

The beanie design consists of 3 parts:

  1. Crown
  2. Body
  3. Edging

Crown:-

R1: Magic Circle, Ch 2, 12 Double Crochet stitch(DC), Join on the 1st DC. (12 DC)

R2: ch 2, 2 DC in each DC, join on 1st DC.(24 DC)

R3: ch 2, *2 DC in 1st DC, 1 DC in next DC*, repeat till beginning. Join on 1st DC. (36 DC)

R4: ch 2, *2 DC in 1st DC, 1 DC on next 2 DC*, repeat till beginning. Join on 1st DC. (48 DC)

R5: ch 2, *2 DC in 1st DC, 1 DC on next 3 DC*, repeat till beginning. Join on 1st DC. (60 DC)

R6: ch 2, *2 DC in 1st DC, 1 DC on next 4 DC*, repeat till beginning. Join on 1st DC. (72 DC).

R7: ch 2, *2 DC in 1st DC, 1 DC on next 5 DC*, repeat till beginning. Join on 1st DC. (84 DC).

Body:-

R1: continue with Main Color, Ch 3, *Skip next dc, DC on next DC, ch1*, repeat till beginning, End with DC.

R2: (use another colour) ch2, *DC on ch 1 gap from the previous row, skip next DC, Ch1*, repeat till beginning, end with ch1.

repeat R1-R2 till the size of beanie is extended for 3 inches. There should be 2 rows of one colour.

For example: R2-R3=Above R2, R1 = light blue color, Next R4-R5 = ABove R2, R1 = Dark Blue color.

Edging:-

R1: Connect to Main colour, ch 2, DC on Each DC, DC in each chain 1 space. Join to the 1st DC.

R2: ch 2, * Front Post Double Crochet (FPDC) on 1st DC, Back Post Double Crochet (BPDC) on next DC*, repeat till the beginning. Join on 1st DC.

Repeat R2 till the edging size is 3 inches.

In the end, the beanie length will be 9″.

Product Specifications:

Defining Dimensions:-

  • Height for an adult man hat: 9″
  • Circumference: 23″-24″

The sizes could be altered based on the count of the stitches for the rows.

Optional Alterations:-

  • For edging, you can use fur, Crab Stitch, Herringbone Half Double Crochet (HHDC) or Slip Stitch of same or contrasting colours.

Winter/Fall Seasoned Crochet Spiral Dad-Son Beanie Free Pattern for your family - kNot mY deSigns

Spiral Dad-Son Beanie

This is a winter wear gift to one of our closest friend. A new approach of Dad-son beanie. I had first planned to make and gift a Daddy n Me ZigZag Beanie. But the gap between the cluster stitch made me think again. I do prefer attractive designs, intricate work in my products but the main focus is to fulfil the purpose. If I am making any winter accessory, first and foremost, it should provide significant warmth, protect you from cold.

When you are not sure about the colour choices/preferences of male accessory, it’s safest to use Black, Gray, Blue, Beige or Green, what I call as SAFE COLORS. I prefer these for any male accessory. Since I had planned for Dad and son beanies, I chose a black and grey combination.

Process:

After a long search for male beanie pattern, I zeroed in on this Swirl Beanie from the Crochet Zombie. She has some creative ideas and patterns too. The spiral beanie was an interesting and easy project to work on too.

The spiral lines of grey on a black base is for the toddler/child and the other with black spiral stripes black on grey beanie is for the adult.

Tip: For achieving a neat Single Crocheted hat for outside and reverse side, you need to carry the Contrast colour along with your Base colour.

Product Specifications:

Defining Dimensions:-

Adult Hat

  • Height: 9.5″
  • Circumference: 22″-24″

Child Hat

  • Height: 8.5″
  • Circumference: 18″-20″

Optional Alterations:-

  • You can increase the base diameter to give a more slouchy feel. Also, increase the height of the beanie.
  • You can add pom-pom matching the colour with the edging or the base colour. There are different ways to create pompom.
  • You can attach flowers, beads or a bow made of crochet, plastic, suede leather etc to give a more of that innocence touch for a child.
