Circular Wheeling Placemats

The first and the most important lesson we learn in fashion is to avoid over-accessorizing ourselves with ornaments, heavy makeup, and bold outfit.

It is all about striking the right balance between glitz and simplicity, avoiding falling into any extremes. Be it in the makeup, hairdo, dress, or jewelry.

The same concept is applicable in interior designing as well. When decorating a house, we always focus on a central piece that creates an attraction and everything around is, to just complement it, to create a harmony.

Tip: We should follow the same concept while designing crochet products. If we use multi-color yarn, like OMBRE YARN, our optimal choice should be to go for a simple pattern. This not only complements the item but also brings the true color of the yarn.

I already bought a bulk of cotton ombre yarn to make a placemat for dark colored dining table set. I also decided to make a circular placemat. But I was not able to narrow down on the design. I finalized the pattern from PurlSoho – Granny Circular Placemat. But when I started making the placemat, I realized that I am not getting the desired look. So I drop out the plan and started making on my own. The procedure is very simple and looks beautiful. Within a couple of days, I completed the set of 6 placemats. The design resembles a wheel thus Wheeling Placemats.

Process:

R1: starting with a magic circle, make 12 Double Crochet – 12 DC.

R2: ch 2, 2 DC on every DC, join at the 1st DC – 24 DC.

R3: ch 2, *DC over 1 DC, 2 DC in next DC*, repeat *-*. join the round at 1st DC – 36 DC.

R4: ch 2, *DC over next DC, *ch 1, skip the next DC*, repeat *-*, end with Ch 1 and join the 1st DC.

R5: ch 3, *2 DC in ch 1 space, DC over DC*, repeat *-*, end with 2DC over ch 1 space.

R6: ch 3, DC over DC, join with Slip stitch at the 3rd loop of ch 3.

R7: ch 3, *ch 1, Skip the next DC, DC over next DC*, repeat *-*, end with ch 1 and join the 3rd loop of ch 3.

R8: ch 3, * 2 DC in ch 1 space, DC over DC*, repeat *-*, end with 2 DC over ch 1 space and join the 3rd loop of ch 3.

R9: ch 3, DC over DC, join with slip stitch at the 3rd loop of ch 3.

R10: ch 3, *ch 1, Skip the next DC, DC in next DC*, repeat *-*, end with ch 1 and join the 3rd loop of ch 3.

R11: ch 3, *DC in ch 1 space, DC in next DC, 2 DC in next ch 1 space*, repeat *-*, end with 2 DC over ch 1 space, join at the 3rd loop of ch 3.

R12: ch 3, DC over DC, join with slip stitch at the 3rd loop of ch 3.

R13: ch 3, *ch 1, Skip the next DC, DC over next DC*, repeat *-*, end with ch 1 and join the 3rd loop of ch 3.

R14: ch 3, *DC in ch 1 space, DC in next DC, 2 DC in next ch 1 space*, repeat *-*, end with 1 DC over ch 1 space, join at the 3rd loop of ch 3.

Crochet Mosaic Placemats / Table Mats Free Pattern for your dinning Table - Knot My Designs

Mosaic Placemats

We often look for inspiration. But sometimes you love a design so much that it inspires you to create one. I was planning for my next project and was casually browsing online to find something good. The moment I saw it; I was charmed by the mosaic pattern.

It was my early days of crocheting and I have been working on small easily doable projects like beanies, fingerless gloves, and headband only. I did make Bobble Placemat before, but it was a just one-off. I had gone back to creating items.

Process:

I took a step forward to try out this Redheart – Mosaic Basketweave Placemat. The pattern is written very neatly and you will love working on it. You need to keep patience before you can see the success as the design takes shape. I left up to 4″ as a tail border. You can avoid it if you feel it a waste of yarn. You can just follow the instructions for the 5 rows and use your judgment. This does require calculation and observation so that you don’t end up wasting yarn. At most. you can still collect the leftover yarn and use them as fillers for amigurumi patterns.

I can say that this has been one of my most time-consuming projects ever except the blankets. But it did turn out to be a beautiful decorative item. Now tell me who does not want to eat on the table, adorned with such beautiful placemats?

Happy Dining!

Shades of Brown Colored Crochet Clove Placemats - Coasters Set Free Pattern for your Dinning Table - Knot My Designs

Clove Placemats-Coasters Set

“Randomness in sequence” OR “Sequential Randomness”.

Random means unpredictable; an absence of pattern. Sequence defines predictability; particular order. The combination of both invents new designs. Whichever rule you follow – create a random pattern in sequence or create a sequential design in an unplanned way – it’ll always result in different design.

Process:

I was looking for a different design for the table mats for my customer when I discovered the Clover Patch Placemats and Potholder. I liked the pattern and decided to make the same. Looking at the colour of their dining table, I planned to use different shades of brown in the pattern. I didn’t make the potholder but created coasters to complete the dining set as a kitchen decor. I decided to follow the Clover stitch in series but with a random selection of colour sequence. There is no specific sequence of brown colour defined in these. The more the series is random, the more creative it looks. No 2 placemats/ coasters follow the same sequence.

For Coasters, I didn’t make any change for the placemat and followed the same process for coaster but it goes up to three cloves only.

Product Specifications:

Defining Dimensions:-

  • Instead of regular yarn, fur yarn will bring out a pop to the border.

Crochet Bobble Placemats - A Kitchen Decor item / A Home Decor Item - kNot mY deSigns

Bobble Placemats

After making a couple of beanies, this was my first attempt to make a mat.  Though I had made the beanies, I considered myself a newbie at a learning stage. I saw the bobble design on a headband but thought of experimenting with the pattern and using it for making a placemat instead.

I had made the previous crochet beanies just following the video tutorials, it was time for the student in me, to put my learning into practice. These placements, therefore, hold special meaning. They helped me get off my comfort zone.

I tried to make a placemat as a wedding present for my friend. I felt it was something useful for the newly wedded couple, as a handmade beautiful home decor item.

Another reason, why this is so dear to me, is because it led to the formation of Tangled, now ‘Knot My Designs’.

After days of toil, I had completed this beautiful set of placements, and this gave me immense confidence and motivation to start my boutique of crochet. I first named it Tangled, since, I liked the animated Tangled movie from Disney, and my friend, Pooja encouraged me to pick this as the name of my maiden venture.

After all, Crochet is a creative intertwining of wool/yarn/threads of different colours,  all tangled into each other to become an accessory or a dress or even a home decor.

But this isn’t it; there is yet another story behind choosing the combination of red and golden for the placemats. Like I always said,

“There is a sincere effort that goes behind every pattern, color combination and design because being a consumer myself I know that an accessory is not just a wearable, it is an adjective to the personality.”

Process:

Starting with the headband from Epicabundance – Raspberry Stitch/ Bobble Stitch,

The colour of the Dining table was dark brown, and I needed something sassy to pair it up. Fortunately, it was the Oscar season, and I was following the usual (red carpet) trends. I liked the actress wearing a Golden dress. And that’s how I finalised on the colour of the yarn; red and golden for the brown table.

So this is the story behind the red carpet inspired ‘Crochet Bobble Placemats‘. Do share your views about this.
